  1. This consulate may have been "friendly" in the same manner as the UK consulate in Hull was "friendly"

Hull is now very restricted in the business the consulate is permitted to undertake.

When (if) the Brisbane consulate reopens I predict that "visas" will prove more difficult to obtain.

The one in Cardiff UK is also very good

Well thats a great improvement. A couple of years ago i drove from Bournemouth arriving 15 mins before closing and was made to come back the next day. The whole process only took 8 mins. But it cost me a night in a hotel. No where was there a more friendly and helpful Consul than Bill Dunns Brisbane one. Well done Bill you were a hero !

  2. Good news. The only thing that will change Thailand is at least a generation of benign authoritarianism. Something like, but with with a touch of Thainess, a national polity that transformed Singapore from a corrupt colonial backwater to a First world city-state.

It seems to me that those who still try to compare Singapore with Thailand display an unfathomable lack of knowledge of both countries

I remember Singapore back in the 50's when it was very much like Bangkok is today. But along came Lee Qan Yew.

  3. It seems the approach was OTT. Better intelligence and investigative work would have avoided this waste of resources. Must be very upsetting for people in that community.

You sound like the naive idiot who would put the Samui Police to do the investigation. The RTA came in unexpectedly and overcame the local police before they could send out warnings

  4. I would be extremely happy if they stopped playing the soccer in most of the pubs in Thailand (I'd allow a few for those who may suffer from withdrawal symptoms)!smile.png You can't not see it...everywhere you turn there seems to be a screen with it on.

Now if only they showed Aussie Rules Football in all the pubs...that would be heaventongue.png

Whats Aussie Rules ? ........surely not another government propaganda thing !

  5. Seems the RTA are raiding Samui after the assination in Fishermans village. Me thinks they should be asking the RTP., who specialise in 'cover ups' similiar to the Koh Tao incident. Only last week i was shown a police photo of a falang who they say died from a heart attack so was promptly cremated. The body was draped back down over his toilet seat arms out stretched blood dripping from a badly damaged face plus a large body wound.........Heart attack my ass ! more like murder.

  6. The future of Thailand depends on the purchase of the microphones and TV screens.

    >deleted< me! Are you deadly serious? Or do you miss Chalerm so much that you need to make ridiculous comments on a weekly basis to keep readers amused?

Let's read that again, shall we; "The future of Thailand depends on the purchase of the microphones and TV screens." cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifclap2.gif

    Classic! wai.gif

Go on, With this kind of thinking, tell me why Greece is in such a bloody awful mess.

  7. Kind of sounds like this is opening a nice big wide door for Yingluck and others to slip through ... i.e. they didn't actually "do" the things that they are accused of, they merely "approved" of them ... therefore it's someone else's fault, and the underlings will take the fall, not the higher ups again.

No reason why yingluck defense team can't use this as a prime example of why she cannot be responsible for the nasty little deeds of her underlings.

Prayuth is his wisdom, gave the people the funds to do something for the country. The people took advantage of that.

Yingluck in her wisdom , gave the people the funds to do something for the country. The people took advantage of that.

    Prayuth did nothing wrong.

    Therefore -----

    Same same but different. ????

Must be obvious even to the strange logic of Costas. Whats good for the goose is good for the gander. But with the military in control, the rules change according to whom they apply.

  8. Go to suratthani for more choices and better price.

The downside with buying from surat is that if you have any problems, you'll have to go back to surat.

But homepro has identical price in any outlets in the country.

Your best option is to just buy here in samui and let them install it for you.

Index shop in maenam also have good selections of pocket spring mattresses and beds and other furniture. Index prices should also be the same all over the country. If you're lucky, they may have some promotions going on.

I recommend you to stay away from those "cheap-charlie" no brand furniture outlets. The quality is usually shit and being a farang, you won't get a good price on anything.

Better to buy from reputable outlets which you can go back to if there's any problems.

Rule of thumb nowadays is usually that you get what you pay for. (most of the time)

I got the best mattress ever from the "cheap carlie" furniture outlet in Maenam opposite the afternoon market. True, it was almost double the price of most of their lines, but what quality !

  9. Be careful, my partner and i made up a list which i shopped alone. My partner later went to the same places with the same list and was offered the goods at Bt 18000 cheaper than what i was offered. You should have seen the look on the sales womans face when we both turned up together to buy the goods. Apparently the accent can make a difference too, my partner is from Surtthani.

  10. Yes, its "under consideration".

    http://www.nationmultimedia.com/national/National-airline-to-downsize-and-reduce-routes-30252743.html

Decisions on routes that do not make a profit but are considered to have potential will be made in the fourth quarter. They include Bangkok-Rome, Bangkok-Milan, Bangkok-Brussels, Bangkok-Brisbane, Bangkok-Sapporo, Bangkok-Colombo, Bangkok-Denpasar and Bangkok-Hyderabad.

Thanks for that, i knew that they were going to scrap the daily service. So regarding the whole route it is not definate yet.I dont know whether it is still the case, but the Brisbane flight used to continue on to Auckland.

  11. Hope they have consulted the camel herder and his lackie's if this is acceptable to their way of thinking, if not, should they wait on his seal of approval before commencing their investigation.

It is a known fact that when Suthep was Agricultural Minister he gave land to rich friends on Phuket that was earmarked for poor farmers. He resigned his portfolio to avoid being impeached, so what as this to do with an imaginary camel herder. rolleyes.gif

  12. I thought re-enactments are done in a court of law?

What's the expression about being the police, judge and jury?

Police work should concentrate on traffic violators in this country...

    CB

Its obvious that you do not live in Thailand. It is a police habit here of having re enactments of any crime when they find the culprit.

  13. Why is it that ordinary non drug users such as my self, know where drugs are available, but the Samui police do not appear to know where these dealers are. Drugs are freely available from a dealer on the beach at Maenam who has traded there for at least a couple of years. rolleyes.gif
