  1. Much depends on where you go. A check-up following Cataract surgery for both eyes in Bangkok included a full battery of eye tests, consultation and eye drops cost 740 baht total. Removal of stitches after some dental work was 50 baht at one dentist in Pattaya. Hospital prices can vary by as much as 300% for the same procedure so shopping around is indicated.
  2. I am having difficulty getting answers about parcels from China that got as far as, then left, Cholburi for Banglamung on July 28th and seemingly disappeared. The call center 1545 simply said "Wait for delivery". Does anyone else have issues with ThaiPost/EMS tracking app ?
  3. I hadn't had any for years until i ate at La Cremerie and where a small piece of excellent bread pudding comes with your coffee and a dollop of real whipped cream with it. I am sure they sell proper size pieces too.
  4. I have had only one very slight issue with Thai Post in that a parcel was said to be sent to IBin (where collection is needed) but that turned out to be a standard message when for any reason it was not delivered that day. It was a Sunday and it was delivered Ok today with no problem. EMS tracking works fine although hiccups with their site does occur.
  5. Came here in 1966 and retired some years ago. The one thing I would have done differently is plan better for retirement finances as I get no UK pension as left too long ago and worked on contract basis with no golden handshake at the end of those contracts. Nightlife is long a thing of the past and a quiet life suits me even if I have to be frugal with an allowance from a half Thai daughter. Divorced many years ago but a single life at my age is not so bad as I have all the comforts of nice house, car and toys.
  6. The last reply about a lawyer is the best so far. I personally feel, however, that the nay-sayers have some valid points. I worked here legally in a valid and registered International company for 40 years and still had hassles.
  7. For the best replacement lens, I had both eyes operated on for cataracts at Banphaeo Hospital in Chan Rd Bangkok for 25k each eye. While a very busy Eye And Cataract surgery department that really needs Thai speaking or a Thai with you, it is very organised. First time patients must go in person for an appointment and to register. This compared to Rutnin quote at 17Ok, Pattaya International at 70k per eye and others at higher than my final choice.
  8. While couples are most likely to float a Krathong together it has no real meaning when you float one with a stranger. The likelihood is she has no-one in her life and wants to have someone with her when she floats her Krathong. Just be polite, enjoy the festival in the spirit of it and make sure she is safe when you part.
  9. I had the TURP operation for an enlarged Prostate in Bangkok a couple of years go with no side effects so far. Only minor inconvenience for a few days but no urination issues and no midnight trips to the bathroom since. I was 80 then and had been forced to use a catheter a couple of times when unable to urinate. Everyone is different and only a good urologist can advise.
  10. There were once three foreign volunteer police groups ..one for Traffic/Highway police, one for Tourist police and another for police at stations. Different organizations. The latter is still operational but not sure about other two.
