  1. The last reply about a lawyer is the best so far. I personally feel, however, that the nay-sayers have some valid points. I worked here legally in a valid and registered International company for 40 years and still had hassles.
  2. For the best replacement lens, I had both eyes operated on for cataracts at Banphaeo Hospital in Chan Rd Bangkok for 25k each eye. While a very busy Eye And Cataract surgery department that really needs Thai speaking or a Thai with you, it is very organised. First time patients must go in person for an appointment and to register. This compared to Rutnin quote at 17Ok, Pattaya International at 70k per eye and others at higher than my final choice.
  3. While couples are most likely to float a Krathong together it has no real meaning when you float one with a stranger. The likelihood is she has no-one in her life and wants to have someone with her when she floats her Krathong. Just be polite, enjoy the festival in the spirit of it and make sure she is safe when you part.
  4. I had the TURP operation for an enlarged Prostate in Bangkok a couple of years go with no side effects so far. Only minor inconvenience for a few days but no urination issues and no midnight trips to the bathroom since. I was 80 then and had been forced to use a catheter a couple of times when unable to urinate. Everyone is different and only a good urologist can advise.
  5. There were once three foreign volunteer police groups ..one for Traffic/Highway police, one for Tourist police and another for police at stations. Different organizations. The latter is still operational but not sure about other two.
  6. While it should not happen, a large and busy hospital could misfile things ....no point screaming at the doctor who does not handle filing ....
  7. I had a lawyer's quote for a libel case of 100,000 baht with no guarantee that the person I might sue had enough money to repay that so I did not go ahead. A building or village might have a controlling body that is a "Juristic Person" who perhaps should be the ones taking any action in my opinion.
  8. I speak Thai very well after 50 years here and passing Thai exams. The issue is being able to get someone on the phone.
  9. I was exclusively using Lazada but an item I wanted was only showing up on Shopee so I tried that. My issue with that latter is a delivery courier who doesn't seem to know my area and the item has been back and forth between two depots twice and still not here. It is not easy to deal with computer generated chat responses or forever busy call centers. But even with Lazada it depends a lot of the sellers' choice of courier. Some call and some don't and I even had one item thrown over the fence even though I was home.
  10. I had prostate enlargement and after a few catheter experiences went for the TURP procedure at age 80 and while it was not cheap at Samitivej Hospital in Bangkok and involved a 2 night stay there after the procedure, it solved the issue. I had it done it via spinal deadening injection and was wide awake through it all and could have watched it on the video screen if I wanted (which I din't). After effects were limited to a few days afterwards while urethra healing took place. I have no real interest in sexual activity now at 82 but erections are still possible and urine flow is fine with night time visits to bathroom being rare.
  11. One of the best places was Birdland Jazz Room but that has closed. Sandbar By The Sea on Dongtan beach, Jomtien, has a Jazz Brunch this coming Sunday with a guitar/bass/drums trio and nice singer. If you are a player then Sun Sabella/Sugar Hut offers the only jazz jam on Sundays.
  12. Often it means that they are not on salary but there to earn what they can via drinks or more.
  13. ^^^^ internationlism .......Yes, it is possible to have badges given as "honorary" this or that for services normally related to translation issues on cases but having that or an officially signed police volunteer ID does NOT elevate anyone to actual full police officer status. All foreign volunteers with any branch of Thai police can act only when on official duty alongside a Thai officer then they can have apprehension capability, and more, depending on what a Thai officer requests of him.
  14. There is more than one Foreigner here who once had some sort of volunteer status with police who then, on the basis of perceived importance and ignorance of their real relationship with any police officers, pretend that they are able to sort out issues for foreigners in trouble for a fee. He is just one of them who fleeced people as well as likely upset senior police officers whose names he falsely used to suggest he had some influence. They are a scourge ....
