  1. The UK police will just sit on this until he returns. No extradition request would be made for such a crime. If there was excessive violence involved or a high profile case then maybe but from what you have said. He will be ok. When the police block passport renewals it only affects the UK issuing offices not ones abroad because one would have to be able to return home.

He is not a serious criminal and could easily live happily every after in Thailand without any problems I think.

  2. I am interested in buying a condo in Bangkok for my Thai wife who is currently renting. I have seen many condo advertisements on the roadside that I think are offering to buy a condo with only small deposits some as low as 5,000 going up to 50,000baht, I asked my wife to explain it to me and she doesn't believe it.

Has anybody had any experience with buying a condo with such a low deposit?

My wife is currently not working so it would have to be a builder funded loan if they exist?

Any replies would be much appreciated.

  3. My Thai wife wants me to buy her car. We have talked about it and I want to register the car in my own name to protect my investment but she is against that and wants it registered in her name claiming there would be problems with me not living in Thailand and if she had an accident the insurance company would cause problems?

Is it possible to buy the car in my wifes name and either put a lean against the vehicle or have a contract stating that I am the owner of it even though its not in my name?

Could you draw up such a contract and at what fee?

    Thanks

  4. Will not be easy. You will need proof that the funds came from outside Thailand to buy the house but then the legality of you buying land in Thailand even though the house may of been only in your wifes name will prove to be a problem because I am sure you would of brocken some rules.

You are going to be hit with a legal nightmare, I doubt you will be able to do it.

I would suggest your wife gets documents to prove the house sale and have them translated, then change the money in Thailand to USD and travel to the USA with the cash and declare it on entry. So about $166000 alot to carry but when you think about it it would only be about 800x$100 bills each.

    But best of luck.

Or take out the money daily from a cash machine in the USA, most banks allow up to 200000 baht per day, just get a few bank account and do it that way.

  5. Hi all,

My wife and I have been married for 2 years, and I have returned to the UK and have since changed my name, I am organising all of our documents to apply for my wifes settlement visa to the UK but before we apply I want her to change her name, she went to her local office that issues ID cards etc, and they said they need some document confirming my change of name. I sent my wife an original of my change of name deed poll, and she is going to get it translated. WIll this be sufficient or will she have to go to the embassy get it ceritifed then get that translated and then go to the ministry of foreign affairs to get it verified? (really the same procedure as an affirmation of freedom to marry)

    Thanks

  6. I'm especially nervous about dealing with Thai companies for rental after talking with an expat w ho rented a scooter. It was stolen and to get his passport back he had to pay $4.5K USD for the scooter. Fortunately, he has insurance that will reimburse him but he is pretty much stranded here until a loan comes in from his bank. The Canadian gov't site confirms my suspicion that some of those thieves are in cahoots with the rental company.

Really $4.5k USD, I haven't seen any scooters priced any more than 100,000 baht, and a rental would at the most be a PCX of less, and they retail at 72,000baht.

I am sorry but IMOHO the above is untrue.

  7. Its a con for sure, I tried over 30 dates and couldn't find their promotion for 8k all in, I think maybe they had only 1 flight in all the time period, and it got taken quickly, to advertise like that i think they should have at least one flight per day or per week, but no such luck.

  8. Don't even bother looking for a job at a school unless you are willing to start straight away. Its all ready mid term now and no school will wait for you to start. I recommend you start looking for a job early late october or early noschool.when the schools go back for the second semester. If you get a tourist visa it can be converted in Thailand with the correct paper work from the school.

  9. You are being ripped off, I would quit now. If the condo/apartment is rented then you will pay the landlord in most cases, and they add on their cut. It will not be negotiable and if you don't like it don't rent there. The cheaper rentals at about up to about 5000 baht a month will normally charge between 5 - 7 baht per unit, and over 5000 baht it can go up to 12 baht. The landlord figures if you can afford to pay high rents they will stick you for more on electric. In the UK this practice is illegal, but in Thailand anything goes.
