  1. UPDATE:

Phuket Butti murder: Italian business partner charged, hitman still at large

PHUKET: -- Police have arrested the alleged Italian "mastermind" and three others in connection with the shooting murder of resort owner Luciano Butti, 61.

Mr Butti, also Italian, was gunned down while riding a rented motorbike in Pa Khlok on Tuesday night.

Phuket Provincial Police Region 8 Commissioner Lt Gen Kokiat Wongvorachart presented the four suspects at a press conference at Phuket Provincial Police headquarters this morning.

The suspects were named as Denis Kavatassi, from Italy; Somprasong Yongkit, from Krabi; and Ratchanon Sawaree and Somchai Klasuk, both from Phang Nga.

The alleged trigger man, Suchart Nimla-or, and his younger brother, Ekkachai, along with Ponwat Jongrak all remain at large.

Police are now searching for the trio for arrest in connection with the murder.

Kavatassi was a partner with Mr Butti in several business ventures on Phi Phi Don, including Italiano Restaurant and Bar and Ciao Bella restaurant.

The arrests came after police discovered that the last phone call made to Mr Butti before he was murdered came from Somprasong, who was a manager at one of Butti's restaurants on Phi Phi.

Somprasong caved in to pressure after being brought in to Thalang Police Station for questioning and confessed that Mr Kavatassi had paid him to hire a "hit squad" to take out Mr Butti, Lt Gen Kokiet said.

Mr Butti had cheated Kavatassi out of "seven or eight million baht", which angered him, Somprasong told police.

Somprasong phoned Mr Butti on Tuesday and invited him to a meeting at a restaurant in Pa Khlok.

He lured him to the secluded area by telling him that he wanted to discuss the business problems between the two Italians and that he sided with Mr Butti and would help him in the matter, police said.

Mr Butti was in Phuket for a brief stay and was scheduled to appear in court in a divorce case on Wednesday.

After meeting at the restaurant, Mr Butti drove his motorbike back toward Phuket Town as the hitmen assembled and followed the Italian.

Somprasong, driving a white sedan, identified the "mark" to Ratchanon and Ponwat on one motocycle, Somchai on another, and Suchart and Ekkachai on yet another.

The gang closed in and Suchart allegedly shot Mr Butti four times, killing him.

It was initially reported that the trigger-man was a "civil servant" based in Yala, in Thailand's troubled Deep South region.

Three of the four arrested have confessed to their involvement.

    Kavatassi is maintaining his innocence.

I am just slightly impressed with the Phuket's Finest.... One of the apprehended is singing like mocking bird.... Hey Bravo all the same..

Thanks for the great find on your part also George... Too many facts for this forum, way more fun making up shit..

  2. I always have been flabbergasted how cheap it is in this country to have someone "whacked" and even more so how many willing contractors one can find to carry out the job without any scruples. Life has absolutely no value in this realm. And they call themselves Buddhists.

Here is a great bargain also.., or value ..

Professional killers are charging £10,000 a "hit", although members of drug gangs will murder for as little as £200, according to Detective Chief Superintendent John Coles, head of the Metropolitan Police's... Buddhist ?

  3. What on Earth does banning 50+ yr. olds do? A 30 or 40 something can engage in human trafficking just as well as a 50+. Not to mention that the law is just plain odd. I've never heard of anything like it before.

If human trafficking is their actual target they should educate their populace. No law ever supercedes good judgement. Normal couples date, see movies, barhop, dance, go to restaurants, live separately for a while, etc. At least this is our western mindset for sure. If we were dealing with intelligence here these women would suddenly lay some western-style expectations on the men. The fakers and the con artists just wouldn't have the time or patience. I'm sure that at some point a lot of the human traffickers lay a deadline on these women. Probably something like, "I have to go home in one week. Will you come with me or not?" These women must be desperate to fall for that. I have to idea how these cons actually get carried out, but I'm sure that at some point decent judgement could avoid a lot of problems. dry.gif

A few facts, although not as much fun as making up facts on forums...

    Facts on Trafficking

  4. I'm sorry but I am staggered by some of these

    comments.

You make judgements without facts, displaying cynicism about every aspect of this man's character and existence in this country, where both he was and you are all guests. All this with no consideration to local crime trends (Research it I'm not going to spoon feed you). To continue your "Victor Melldrew" attitude you then insult the character of all Thais - again without fact or evidence.

It is little wonder that the ex-pat community in this country is being viewed by more and more of the native populous as being a hindrance rather than an enhancement to their development as a nation. If you dislike the Thai people, their culture and this country so much and have nothing good to say or feel about it then return to your native lands and allow the rest of us to repair the scars you leave behind you.

I truly hope that this victims family never have the misfortune of reading the inconsiderate comments posted here by so many dispassionate and selfish individuals.

And for a first post at that, well said.. Welcome to the Forum, I hope you stay around..

  5. The more that I read comments on ThaiVisa, the more I believe the IQ of most commenters is less than 70.

I understand why many Thais think farang are stupid. Many people on this forum constantly prove that assumption.

Many people that moved here and also joined since I did ThaiVisa sure fit your description.

This was a place years ago where people showed respect, no bashing and then we also called Thailand LOS.

Maybe I am asking to much for everyone to be civil.

Well put both of you, I belong to a few of these sites and I do think the information on many topics are superior to the other sites. This one does seem to bash faster than most. It is free so I am not complaining..

  6. When a person with so much as half a brain conducts a robbery, he, or she, should always leave some behind so morons will state that it wasnt a robbery.

It would appear that the above person with half a brain is far more intelligent that the vast majority of TV posters commenting on this thread based the cr*p that has been written.

Read my post not the one you modified....even had me thinking for a minute

  7. This ain't a robbery case 'cos the money was there in his pocket.

    Possibly,

    the business competition

sorry me .... I just guess

When a person with so much as half a brain conducts a robbery, he, or she, should always leave some behind so morons will state that it wasnt a robbery.

Now was thinking that if it was for some other reason than robbery, take all the money and make it look like robbery.. Throw Phucket's finest off a bit..

  8. The clash broke out shortly after Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya finished a Joint Commission meeting with his Cambodian counterpart Hor Namhong in Siem Reap. They told reporters there that they were happy with the improving relations and agreed to use peaceful means to settle the boundary conflict.

Glad the talks went well, hate to see what would have happened it is didn't.

  9. This might help on a few of the reply's in other topics, made by a few Misinformed (I count only 2 so far). There is plenty of background on the site to allow you to view the source of data acquired. Possibly not as entertaining as a Beer Bar but still a few points to cause one a moment to pause and say "No Shit?" .. Anyway I hope you enjoy it.

The basic premise of the site is to allow one to be interactive and do some comparative look at different countries.

I am sure most everyone will disagree with the data, after all these are just facts. just for fun?

  10. Not trying to ruffle any feathers here but how would I go about get there attention on a flight? On normal flights I know there are gay and lesbian attendants and that is fine. I still address the males Sir and the females Miss. Easy Male and Female. How do I get the attention of a 3rd sex asit is niether male nor female. Do I just say hey you or continue to call them Sir.

A Thai trans-gender normally will look better than any girl we dated in our lives. ( Not talking about a Bar Girl) You will defiantly consider her a female.. I would still call her Hostess...

  11. I think many of you guys need to slow down a little and wait and see the full story follow up.

To start with, it is NOT an unheard of for Thai employees to hold "hostages"

Keep in mind, his English probably was not/is not the best, factory is NOT located in the city center, but rather in the sticks where no one can speak English. So to seek help could be a challenge.

Also being NOT from the West, many Russians or former USSR do not know of their rights and what can be done, especially if he does not speak the language and has no one to ask for help

Story may well be not 100% true, but rest assured no one makes up something like that.

Now that this has become public and embassy's are involved, i really do not think Thai Police will play micky mouse with nuclear state, and rest assured Russian will not just sit and watch and will do all it can to "help" just to get back at Thailand for Victor.

Some mentioned that its very strange that his family did not notice him missing, but perhaps they did and dealt with the fact that he is missing, "gone"

What exactly could they do, fly over and start to walk around the soi's to look for him?!

All good points , no fun in getting the facts this is much more entertaining... also the USSR fell in 1991 , 25 years ago.. 10 years before he went missing.
