  1. I'd love to grow them in the UK, trouble is the owner of the house I stay in doesn't like greenhouses!
  2. Lol, they're from my sister- in law's garden.
  3. Wondering if it's okay to take a few bags ( less than 2 kilos) of dried lemongrass, galangal and kaffir lime leaves in my hold luggage on the plane back to Blighty. Need my weekly shot of lemon grass soup to be tasty and not cost a bomb when back home. Any useful advice would be much appreciated.
  4. They should have liberated his camera, and sent him on his way with a couple of well placed flying Muay Thai kicks
  5. No need to carry your passport. Just photocopy the first page and visa page, laminate it and carry it in your wallet. Alternatively, your Thai driving licence has your passport numbers on it.
  6. The song remains the same. In the 1950s, police chief, Phao Siriyanon, said: “There is nothing under the sun that the Thai police cannot do."
  7. The owner and paymaster returns. All employees must attend
  8. Apart from the ubiquitous pop-up ads, I keep having to sign in when visiting the site. In the old days it was about once a year. Now it's nearly every day
  9. Hopefully Toni will be full masked up tomorrow for his protection and others after the troubling news last weekend. https://thailand.shafaqna.com/TH/AL/1847966
  10. Poor Toni, he's got his work cut out. His daughter is only mustering 6% in the latest Nida poll as a potential PM compared to 42% for Pita. But, hey! Didn't he say he wanted to come back to play with his grandchildren?
  11. Just wish they'd attack Putin instead. I'd even memorise one verse of the Koran in appreciation.
  12. What would all the tabloid hacks do if there was no British Royal Family? There's a whole army online, TV, and in the press who do nothing but 'comment' every time Kate blinks. I wish the whole family would resign and take up proper jobs, if only to see all those prurient media leeches out of work and down at the job centre.
  13. Tunes, songs, lyrics from the past resurface in the brain like magic. Smells too. As a child in Nigeria, I always remember a sweet smell from burning wood we passed in our jeep one day. 50 years later, the same smell wafted across from a kiln across the fields in Issan, smouldering eucalyptus branches for charcoal. I was back in Nigeria in an instant Sometimes for me, the situation I'm in sparks memories of lyrics. I recently spent the winter back in the UK. With no intention of buying a car and being within walking distance of the shops, albeit in the steep gradients of Bristol, I often found myself trudging back uphill, laden down with potatoes, onions, etc. This song from Free came to mind. Often I would sing it out aloud, hoping someone passing by would recognise it and smile back, but alas, I was usually the oldest on the street by a few decades. I had more luck in the grocery shop where the young assistant was playing Nick Drake. Struck up a conversation with a couple of other customers my age over which of his three albums was the best, lol. Back to the hills of Bristol and backpacks of vegetables.
  14. Some posters go on about there's no democracy in Thailand, it's hopeless, the army etc will never let MF become the government. So what's the choice? Take to the streets. Then the army cries unrest, millions of Thais are living hand to mouth, or month to month, so violent suppression plus financial hardship drives the protesters back to work after yet another coup. The alternative- MF are reborn after dissolution, the demands, the cries for reform of Thailand are unstoppable amongst an increasing number of the population. 2 years ago it was 14.4 million. In three years perhaps 20 million. In the meantime old age and beyond envelop the present elite, disappearing beyond the horizon.
  15. You have been here long enough to know people have to speak in tongues otherwise the slammer beckons.
  16. The MPs can join other parties, usually only the executives are banned. This time though the court might ban all 44 MPs of MF who proposed the motion to reform 112. I'm sure MF have a party for their MPs to go to If Bhumjaithai are dissolved, most would go back to their old home, Pheu Thai
  17. More Israeli brutality https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-68513408
  18. He only owns one elephant. If David returns to his homeland, I suggest his charming wife goes to visit him overland on their one magnificent beast. She could start a YouTube channel based on the legendary 'Hannibal Crosses the Alps' tale of yore.
  19. When people slip, they invariably utter an instinctive sound or word- 'oh', 'aaah', etc. I'm not sure what sound Swiss people emit but I'm fairly sure it's not ' fluck off' repeated.

  21. Due to her warmth, good looks and charm, Yingluk was, and no doubt still, remains popular upcountry, but I wonder whether she's ambitious enough to want to be PM again. Plus her lack of political experience, poor English and geography skills would mean more criticism on social media. I'd expect Pheu Thai to use her more for boosting their image, campaigning during election time, etc But she may prefer a private life, after all Tony owes her a lot.
