Units of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the Defense Forces, and the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (HUR) struck a military-industrial facility in Izhevsk, Russia, as well as an oil refinery in the Saratov region. According to the General Staff, on July 1, SBU units, in coordination with other components of the Defense Forces, carried out a strike on the Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant Kupol, located in the Udmurt Republic of the Russian Federation. "Kupol is part of Russia’s military-industrial complex and specializes in the production of short-range air defense missile systems. Israel Hamas War the Widening Middle East Conflict

The Israeli military used a 500lb (230kg) bomb – a powerful and indiscriminate weapon that generates a massive blast wave and scatters shrapnel over a wide area – when it attacked a target in a crowded beachfront cafe in Gaza on Monday, evidence seen by the Guardian has revealed. Experts in international law said the use of such a munition despite the known presence of many unprotected civilians, including children, women and elderly people, was almost certainly unlawful and may constitute a war crime. Fragments of the weapon from the ruins of al-Baqa cafe photographed by the Guardian have been identified by ordnance experts as parts of an MK-82 general purpose 230kg bomb, a US-made staple of many bombing campaigns in recent decades. Sometimes I think it's a constant battle to be able to read articles through the bombardments of adverts. Some websites of tabloids are a complete maze, usually AN is okay, but the recent advert attacks from the top of the page creeping down to midway really take the biscuit when one wants to read an article. I appreciate the website has to make money but would it be possible not to pull the wool ( advert) over our eyes as it were? Most irritating.

Ukraine will never surrender to the Russian barbarians. They know full well what evil plans Putin has prepared for them. If there is a peace plan, they may cede some territory in the four eastern oblasts, but that's about it

This is an interesting and sobering article outlying the obstacles to peace with both Israel and Hamas. I have quoted three sentences near the end of the piece as they offer some light amid all the gloom. If Trump wants to earn the Nobel Peace Prize which he thinks he already richly deserves, he needs to end Israel’s impunity by ending the subsidies that allow it to make war. Hamas and its fellow recidivist travellers to Armageddon can only be put out of business if the Palestinians, who already despair of all their leaders, can be offered a path that isn’t towards more generations of apartheid, occupation and indignity. Trump could help end a zero sum grand guignol by forcing Israel to back away from its “river to the sea” policies while Hamas’ demands of sovereignty in the same space can be swept aside by a genuine return to Palestinian faith in liberty. Trump’s Gaza ceasefire boasts will mean nothing unless he can get a grip on Israel

The Trump administration moved on Tuesday to cancel planned shipments of weapons to Ukraine, setting off a wave of fury among national security commentators on social media. "BREAKING: White House confirms it has halted weapons that Ukraine was scheduled to receive, including PAC3 Patriots, 155mm artillery rounds, GMLRS, Stinger, AIM-7, and Hellfire missiles," reported PBS Newshour's Nick Schifrin, who added that White House deputy press secretary Anny Kelly explained the move by saying, “This decision was made to put America’s interests first following a DOD review of our nation’s military support and assistance to other countries across the globe. The strength of the United States Armed Forces remains unquestioned — just ask Iran.” Many commenters accused the White House of doing the bidding of Russia's Vladimir Putin, who has engaged in a yearslong invasion to try to bend Ukraine to his will; others attacked Elbridge Colby, the defense policy undersecretary who had a hand in the decision. Report Cannabis Chaos: 12,000 Thai Shops Face Closure Under New Rules

Quote from Wikipedia: What THC level is hash? The most potent principal is δ-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). The resin (hashish) contains 3–6% THC and the flowering tops of the female plant (marijuana) 1–3%. Hashish oil is a much more potent form, which contains 30–50% THC. -
Other important news which I have yet to see on AN is today the Constitutional Court rejected Nathaporn's, ( the serial petitioner!) petition against the EC, the EC secretary-general, Bhumjaithai , the Bhumjaithai executive board and 138 senators regarding voter collusion to ensure the 138 senators won the Senate election. The Constitutional Court argued that the case is already being investigated by government agencies responsible for the alleged offences. This certainly gives Bhumjaithai breathing space, and a chance perhaps to form a new government.

The boys are fighting again: “Bannon is going back to prison,” Musk wrote on X, responding to a comment suggesting Bannon wanted the United States government to “nationalize” the billionaire's space technology company. “This time for a long time.” The feud between Musk and Bannon kicked off in June after Bannon called for the Trump administration to launch a probe into Musk’s immigration status, suggesting the South African native may have overstayed his visa in the United States. Bannon has also called for a probe into Musk’s alleged drug use, with The New York Times reporting Musk to have used “ketamine often, sometimes daily, and mixing it with other drugs” back in May. ‘Going back to prison:’ Elon Musk wants Steve Bannon jailed after SpaceX threat

Alcohol is a depressive but it does loosen inhibitions ( good and bad) so things get more lively after a couple of drinks before tiredness takes over. I think they have different uses: Listening to Rory Gallagher, ACDC, I would reach for a beer. Listening to Floyd, John Martyn, Roy Harper, etc, time to roll up and relax. Listening to Hawkwind... whatever is near at hand. -

Unknown consequences of high potency use. The trend toward higher-potency marijuana could pose additional, yet-unknown risks. Twenty years ago, the average THC content in confiscated marijuana was less than 4%. In 2018, it was more than 15%. Researchers do not yet know the full extent that these higher concentrations of THC will have on the body and brain, especially the developing brain. https://americanaddictioncenters.org/marijuana-rehab/long-term-effects That's a massive increase in potency, bring back the old days of Panama Red, Lebanese hash and Nepalese, -

I know plenty of people who have experienced spells of paranoia when stoned, nearly all recovered though one slipped into periods of psychosis lasting days at a time. He's since given up under his psychiatrist's orders. I've never been anti cannabis but with the strong concoctions available today and heavy usage by even young people, I think people should be open-minded about possible effects on health. -

No need for whataboutism - Islam or alcohol, this is about cannabis. An extract from the article below: Some people who use marijuana may experience acute symptoms of psychosis, including paranoia, delusions, disorganized thinking, or even hallucinations. It is not very common, but cannabis-induced psychosis can be very serious and may need to be treated. Most cases of psychosis related to cannabis are acute and temporary, but there are some troubling associations between marijuana use and the development or worsening of chronic psychotic conditions like schizophrenia. https://www.brightquest.com/cannabis-induced-psychosis/ Everyone who has been a regular toker over the years has seen examples of friends, or indeed themselves, experiences moments of paranoia, so it's not too much of a stretch to see that it can lead to longer term conditions in those who are vulnerable. It's certainly not as bad as crack etc, but it would be good to limit its use in my view, though how exactly, I'm not sure. -
West Bank Israeli settlers attack Palestinian villagers, three dead

A teenager was shot and killed by Israeli soldiers early Tuesday during an army operation in central Ramallah, according to the Palestinian news agency WAFA. Palestinian media reported the boy was 16, while the Palestinian Ministry of Health said he was 15. No further details about the incident in the occupied West Bank city were immediately available. In a separate incident on Tuesday, WAFA reported that Israeli soldiers shot and killed a Palestinian man near a barrier between Israel and the southern West Bank. The Health Ministry identified the man as 24 years old. Further information was not immediately released. Palestinians: Two killed in Israeli military operations in West Bank -

However, some of my friends have been toking since the early 70s and apart from the fact they're still playing 'Harvest' by Neil Young (a classic album), they're remarkably normal. However, the article above warns: The senior officers also warned cannabis’s effects were so devastating it had “more birth defects associated with it than thalidomide”, the morning sickness drug which caused deformities among thousands of babies. I suspect a lot more unpleasant side effects of smoking cannabis are going to emerge as more research is done. -
More than 130 charities and other NGOs are calling for the controversial Israeli and US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) to be shut down. Over 500 Palestinians have been killed while seeking aid since the GHF started operating in late May, following Israel's three-month blockade of Gaza, the organisations said. Almost 4,000 have been injured. The organisations, including Oxfam, Save the Children and Amnesty, say Israeli forces and armed groups "routinely" open fire on Palestinians seeking aid. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn5kk1w00xyo

Israel Hamas War the Widening Middle East Conflict

If the first casualty of war is truth, distraction is a second danger. The war between Israel and Iran has distracted attention from the continuing Israeli slaughter of civilians in Gaza. The health ministry there says the confirmed total death toll since the appalling Hamas attacks on Israel in October 2023 has now risen to more than 56,500, with over 133,000 people wounded. Yesterday the Israeli air force launched further air strikes in Gaza, where dozens were reported dead and injured. Israel had ordered civilians to leave areas, but in Gaza’s rubble-strewn wasteland they had nowhere safe to go. Only the West can stop the genocide in Gaza - The Irish News view -

Thaksin and his party blatantly lied to the Thai public regarding the pro junta parties. As you say, Pheu Thai slept with the enemy to get Thaksin back. Pheu Thai could have joined with Move Forward to form a government, when the senators rejected Pita, then one of Pheu Thai's three candidates could have been proposed as PM. But no, anything to get Thaksin back, stuff the electorate, PT join the enemy. -

Reuters) -The Israeli military acknowledged on Monday that Palestinian civilians were harmed at aid distribution centres in the Gaza Strip, saying that new instructions had been issued to Israeli forces following "lessons learned". Since Israel lifted an 11-week aid blockade on Gaza on May 19, allowing limited U.N. deliveries to resume, the United Nations says more than 400 Palestinians have been killed while seeking handouts of aid. "Following incidents in which harm to civilians who arrived at distribution facilities was reported, thorough examinations were conducted in the Southern Command and instructions were issued to forces in the field following lessons learned," the Israeli military said in a statement. The current Thai government consists of Pheu Thai, United Thai Nation Party ( pro military), Democrat Party ( pro military), Chart Thai Pattana ( Conservative), Kla Tham ( has some military supporting MPs) , There are a few other small parties. Thaksin's got a long way to go if he's going to purge all the military support in his government
