Rescue operation to extract cave survivors has begun

    tp1.jpg

Divers have begun an operation to try to extract the 13 survivors out of Tham Luang cave, chief of the rescue mission Narongsak Osotthanakorn announced at 10.30 am this morning.

“Today is D-Day,” he said, adding that 13 international cave divers and 5 Navy SEAL members have gone into the cave to bring out the survivors.

He said the rescue operation began at 10.00 am and the survivors will be brought out in what is known as a “buddy dive” in which each of the survivors will be escorted by two rescue divers.

He told a news briefing that the first survivor should be brought out by 9 pm tonight.

You've made a number of assertions, e.g. "EU passports are handed out like lottery tickets after only 2 years"; got links from credible source/s to back them up.

"Also, the NGO ships should be punished to save the so-called distress victims".

Don't forget EU country navies have off loaded rescued people to NGO vessels for treatment and eventual landing at EU ports.

I entirely disagree with the statement that EU Passports are handed out like lottery tickets. I can't speak for the whole EU, but as far as Germany is concerned, it most certainly is not correct. To the contrary, it has become very difficult to get naturalized in Germany. I beleieve that this refers to quite a few othe EU countries

Let me correct you, To start with there are far less than 1.6 millions of refugees in Germany. Further, it has been proven statistically that the increase in criminality is not only due to the influx of refugees, but mostly due to the unfortunate trend, Secondly, it is wrong too say that Mrs. Merkel refuses to send back illegal persons not entitled to stay in Germany. This responsibility lies with the federal states and not with the federal government headed by Mrs. Merkel and in most cases such illegals are not sent back due to their countries refusing to take them back.I suggest you check your facts rather than follow cheap popular propaganda

Seems unlikely to me.  Hopefully there are Swedish posters that can confirm or deny this.

I don't and can't believe this awful racial propaganda. Quite frankly, I thought that we in Europe have learnt from experience what racialism can lead to. It seems I have been wrong,,,,

Those who live in Thailand for more than half the year are considered to be resident in the country for the purposes of tax. If you are resident then you are expected to pay taxes on all income that you earn worldwide. If you are not a resident and are in the country for less than 180 days each year then you are only expected to pay tax on the income that you get from within Thailand. I

That's incorrect. The rule that one pays tax only on the amounts brought into Thailand applies to all non Thai residents (i.e. people spending more than 180 days in the Kingdom). People spending less than 180 in Thailand are non residents and therefore not liable for taxation  other than on income derived in Thailand and depending on the Double Taxation agreement with the country of residence.

Yes I know, but thought maybe good to widen your horizon a bit, and show that there are countries that have done this the proper way, and easiest way for their own citizens.

Whether the income concerned is derived from pensions or otherwise, expatriates only have to pay tax on the amount imported into Thailand, provided, of course, they don't work here. Additionally, if one can prove that the income imported into Thailand has been earned in previous years ( not the tax year which is being declared on) such income is not taxable. This is the legal situation. Whether people act accordingly, or ignore the tax, must be considered by the individuals concerned themselves.

If you were paying 200,000 + for a car then you might find a good 2nd or 3rd hand car and you could verify the service records and reconcile that against the kilometer readings to ensure that the odometer hasn't been turned back. However, for 80,000 you're going to be hard pressed to find even a 3rd hand car, and chances are there is no record of service and a good likelihood that the odometer has been turned back. You'd be looking at very high mileage, anything could break at any time and repairs could even cost more than the price of the car. It's really a crap shoot in that price range, so good luck!

You are absolutely right. To buy a second hand car for less than Bht 200,000-300,000, unless you are very lucky, or buy it from a good friend, you are really asking for big trouble. The chances are that repairs within a year would accede the price paid, probably by more than two fold.

I'm really not sure if any Thai women would understand this. If they do, then can they please explain it to me.

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect

May I ask the OP if he would put questions of this kind in his own country and about women there?

There are good and bag, nice and awful women (and men!) everywhere also in Thailand.

I assume this is also an answer to Dmaxden.

They say they "didn't know they were doing anything wrong". A Syrian Immigrant in Canada beat his wife for half an hour with a hockey stick and used that exact same excuse.

This is a ridiculous excuse. One should ask them if they would take photos of such a nature in a Serbian Orthodox church. As I said in an earlier note people should respect any religion and its symbols anywhere in the world. I think the Thai authorities did the right thing fining them to the maximal extent. I do hope other tourists learn from this.

Fact 1: There is no such thing as an International License.

Fact 2: Regardless of fact 1, an International Driving Permit may well be valid for 12 months, however, that doesn't mean that the country you are using it in allows you to drive for 12 months on that IDP.

Fact 3: A large percentage of travel insurance policies will most certainly not cover riding a motorcycle whilst on holiday, you would normally have to specifically purchase for such, or make sure that you read the small print of the policy.

OK, the title is not  “license” but permit.IDPs are usually valid for 12 months. You may be right in saying that some countries allow driving with an IDP for 3 months only. Do you know if Thailand is one?

As far as insurance is concerned, of course there are companies that exclude various activities, like cycling, mountaineering, soccer, tennis and others. However, there are many insurers also in the UK that do not exclude motorcycling.

what? there are other people in the world besides me?

this whole temple was not built for me so I can take photos of myself?

I do this sort of thing in Moscow all the time.

I really very much doubt that any Russian girl would do this in a church in Moscow. Decent people of all nationalities know, or SHOULD know that holy places, of all religions or nations are to be respected.

I wouldn't say his life is ruined, he lost a leg and should recover.

What attracts who to Thailand, 'the uninsured' ?

It probably wouldn't have made much difference if he did have insurance, most won't cover motorbikes and the temporary international licenses are only valid for 90 days.

Quite incorrect. International licenses are valid for 12 months and there are quite a few travel insurances/medical aid ones, that do cover motorbikes traveling. These are facts!?

  12. Whilst I really feel sorry for Mark and am considering making a modest donation, this just proves again that any tourist should prove having a sufficient Medical Aid insurance valid for Thailand, as most countries do when applying for a visa, before being allowed entry. This is for the benefit of the tourists, more than for Thailand and this case is an example.

Also isn't the Insurance company of the vehicle involved responsible for the costs (provided, of course the car was insured, the driver not being under the influence, etc) ??????

If you don't know, just don't comment.

The answer is yes, if you pay the monthly social security.

50% of wages but not more than 180 days says the sso website.

I am sorry, but I don‘t quite understand. I thought that if one is on a work permit and loses her/his job, the visa (permit to stay) is automatically cancelled, unless one is on a PR basis or possibly (not sure)  married to Thai permit basis. If I am right in my assumption, how can one get the benefits?  Out of Thailand?

You are correct regarding the present situation. However, I am of the view that interest worldwide will be increased , not that fast, but it will happen. It has already begun in the US and once the EU follows, the rest of the world will follow suit. As I said it will take few years, but I can see interest rates higher than inflation rates in the next 5 years
