ok i did follow this post but chose to wait for probably different opinions  heres my take

above the leaking part  under the housing is a diaphram of some sorts  remove this housing lid

and inspect diaphram for wear  also you may find  some sort ot debris, also

included in this area there will be a spring to assit the up/down movement of said diaphram

the symtoms seem to indicate  a blockage in this area hense the bypass leak

maybe some help  once you remove the top plate post more photo

    Thanks for the advice.

Natives are normally around 1500 to 2000 p/mth.

depending on size and who buys the chemicals.

90% know F all about water balance and just act like robots.

Salt system pools are streets ahead in keeping clean.

I could teach you if ya not too lazy for a couple of grand baht!!

    I have company & W/P as well.:jap:

Thanks for your reply. Yes I agree about the robots, lol

I know exactly how to maintain a pool after maintaining mine for almost 7 years before I saw the light and returned to the UK!

    Hello all

Just had my first experience with the J mob in Korat

As the op mentioned the Silica seems very hard to get but if that 700 bht is correct for 50 kg & not 50 pds it is very cheap as the same quantity i need from Auss would cost nearly 3 X that

So this is where i ended up having to buy sand as they all seem to use this as the man at the above mob mentioned you can get at any builders (got at another pool mob which seemed to be sifted ) 500 bht for 50 kg (maybe stung )

OP - did you go for the sand as I,m a bit worried also ( but need to do now)

Also a question for all - Onga LSFII-21-40 at 22,000 Bht a fair price since they are 12,000 bht in Auss & attract 10 perc duty + ect

yes I went for sand which hopefully has been washed and graded, according to my other half. But who knows as bearing in mind, this is Thailand!

    OP- Take a look at:

    http://swimmingpoolsthailand.com/en/45-filter-media

Seems a lot cheaper than your previous quote, given the free delivery. I find this supplier, it's online shop and it's installation people, reliable - they are also a sponsor on Thai Visa I believe. I purchased this sand at my last fill in August this year (together with a complete re-kitting of my pool room equipment by them) and it is definitely not beach sand, which tends to be a lot finer in consistency I think. SPT's sand seems as effective as the last sand I had in from another Bangkok pool company - that lasted a couple of years before telltale signs emerged (grounds of fine sand appearing around the pool bottom outlets on a noticeably quicker/more regular basis).

I suspect that they will not however be able to install the sand at any economical price as they are mostly based in North Eastern Thailand and although the task is straightforward and probably takes no more than a couple of hours they would have a kilometre charge. Nonetheless it's worth ringing them - maybe they have some connection with a local installer or maybe they happen to have one of their own installation teams in Pattaya in the next couple of weeks or so.

You could also call into the Thepprasit Road pool shop in Jomtien (about 200m from the ocean end if I recall correctly). Their online shop shows them selling some recycled glass media at some expense, but maybe they also sell pool filter sand and maybe sell installation services. I have no experience of them other than sticking the odd but of chemie in my SUV on my way back from an annual family visit to Jomtien. http://thailandswimmingpoolshop.com/Chemicals_c_37.html.

I doubt that your O-ring (top lid of the filter presumably) actually needs replacing if it is only a couple of years old and if you can access some silicone grease (at a dive shop - pool shops in Thailand seem to think Vaseline is OK which it is definitely not). Pool professionals are probably tut-tutting at this point so if you can get one easily then buy a new one out of an abundance of caution!

Thank you for the useful information

    Absolutely not!!!!

The proper stuff is cheap but why not replace with Zelbrite a generally better medium anyway.

Thanks for your reply. Well for those who are not aware, <removed due to name and shame rule, please PM> get their sand from the beach!

Any recommendations as to who could replace the silica sand and at a fair price, if that’s at all possible bearing in mind we are in Thailand!

Go for the sand, it does not seem a bad deal .

Crushed glass is a good alternative.

High rate filters really need to have the sand changed every couple of years, but this depends on use and local conditions.

Thanks for your reply. Home & pool say their sand has no brand name. is this safe to use and the correct sand?

Has anyone used H&P for replacing the sand?

Also is 3250B for the sand, “O” ring and labour a fair price from H&P?

  7. I’m hoping someone can answer a couple of questions please.

We just arrived in Pattaya as it’s been 2 years since we were here. The Thai guy who takes care of our pool told my wife yesterday that after the flood water went into our pool a year ago, that the sand in the filter doesn’t/wont work properly and the sand needs replacing.

Now home & pool quoted 3200B for the sand, “O” ring and labour. Since reading up on this forum about Zelbrite, I emailed H&P to ask for a breakdown of the price and if that was for sand or Zelbrite. Also which brand would they use.

I gave up waiting for a reply so my wife phoned them to ask them to reply but they told her they don’t supply/stock Zelbrite and the sand had no brand name.

So I’m a bit concerned in case they are about to send their workers out to Pattaya beach to dig some up for the job!

After an online chat with a pool company up north I was advised the following for my filter which is marked 125KG

3 x 50kg bags of sand 1,530bht + 1,500bht shipping to the door with Thai parcels

    6 x 15kg bags of Zelbrite 5,370bht + 900bht shipping to the door delivery

They also said that Sand lasts 5-6yrs & Zelbrite good for a round 8-10yrs

H & P put a sticker on my filter showing the dates when the sand was last done which was in 2012 & another sticker saying it should be replaced in 2013, so basically they suggest changing it every year, so I’m not really believing what they say.

So basically, can anyone make a suggestion on what’s best to use and if they can recommend anyone/company to do the job please?

Also how often should the filter media be replaced?

    Thanks in anticipation guys.

  8. Sorry to resurrect this old post but I just wanted to say don't bother tipping at Kiss food & drink restaurants as they add 7% VAT and they are NOT VAT registered. I asked for a VAT receipt and the waiter eventually returned and was told they don't have one. This is just a scam as I initially suspected to get the customer to pay the staffs wages. Now I remember why I returned to the UK!

Then again if you do go there, why not ask for a VAT receipt? Maybe then they will realise people are onto them and are not all stupid farangs!

  9. I’m hoping someone has been through a similar situation.

My others half’s daughter has come to the UK on a visitor’s visa for 1 month to see her mother and I.

My other half wants the 3 of us to have a week in Turkey and as no visa is required for Thai’s visiting Turkey.

Can her daughter fly from Manchester to Turkey and back before flying back to Bangkok? She has a multi entry visa. Her mother has a British passport as I have as a British citizen.

I’m just wondering if her daughter is allowed to fly out of the UK and back or would there be a problem with immigration when returning back to the UK from Turkey?

Thanks in advance to anyone who knows the answer to this question.

  10. Can anyone please recommend a good pool company who can do a part re-grouting job on our pool? It’s just the two top tiles that need doing.

I asked home & pool who built the pool in July 2007 but from what they told my other half, they don’t want to do a small job, and obviously they make more on the big jobs like building the pools.

Great, they are happy to build the pool but don’t want the hassle of small maintenance jobs, welcome to Thailand.

I can’t do it myself as we go back to the UK next week.

    Thanks, Phil

  11. When I first visited Pattaya in May 1984 you definitely needed air con although I remember waling from the Montien on the beach road all the way to walking street and my armpits became sweaty but now you would melt waking that distance. So yes its a lot hotter now. Great for swimming but that’s about it.

People who say they can cope with this heat full time are also full of it.

The heat was one of the reasons I returned to the UK 2.5 years ago and this 2 month holiday here is enough for me.

  12. Thanks for your replies. The protector has never been tested as far as I know as I knew nothing of this until just a few days ago.

Namm, it sounds like you’re saying even the protector can fail which certainly seems to be the case. So I guess it’s a case of it just wearing out as stuff does.

Incidentally home & pool are charging me 3300 baht for new bearings and a new impeller and 2800 baht for new windings. Including fitting. Do these prices sound about right?

    Thanks, Phil

  13. So surely this facility should have prevented the windings from burning out, correct?

normally yes, but even thermal protectors can fail when material fatigue sets in because they were triggered too often during a short period of time.

    Thanks for your reply Naam.

You say because they were triggered too often during a short period of time.

This is the first time this has actually happened. That’s why I thought the protector would prevent damage.
