  1. Hi, I have a car. I love a Honda CRV 2003 very low mileage. It’s like a new car.

Only problem it cost me about four baht per kilometer for petrol.

    Line.

When I think of using a petrol alternative PG or whatever I visualize the exhaust valves burning.

I can’t from saving money. I have room in the car for two spare wheels one on the back door and one under the storage space behind the rear seats and I believe tanks are made to fit these spaces so it’s ready made.

Have things been sorted out is it possible to go the Gas route wrecking engine? The most grateful for knowledgeable answer.

Not all codes cause the MIL to illuminate.  There are literally hundreds of possible faults - not all of them are costly to fix. This Honda (K series engine) is quite prone to faults due to split/perished vacuum pipes.

Do you think a simple device like this will do for me. (Nothing to do with the price, of course)

  3.  Good thinking BRIAN but it’s not the special models, it does have overdrive, but I never use it. In fact, I’m not sure how do you know. if I’m driving along, and I press the overdrive on the gear stick I don’t quite understand it’s reaction

obd2 error codes start with P and then 4 digits.

Its not the way to figure out poor gas mileage, especially if the car drives fine.

You’re probably right, In fact, I seem to recall the P codes from Scotty Kilmer.

but it was a nice, easy way for a moron to start 🙂

All those red falses............. they are connection issues.

From what I can see your CRV uses ISO 9141 protocol.. the ELM 327 supports ISO 9141-2... might be why you are get the falses.

Thanks, Ralph… Yes, I guess I’ll just have to dig all that up so I’m working with the right data.

My medication’s have worn off again if you feel like throwing me a bone, or a link, that would be nice

Based on the above estimate of 11 litres/100 km, roughly 22 miles/ gal. US, seems reasonable for city type start stop driving. My 2005 crv gets about that, but can be higher if highway driving, closer to 27 mpg.

    Thanks for that DEGRUVB,

The only thing is, did I go into Chiangmai every day and yes When I’m environ, I’m buzzing around and stopping and starting. But it takes a good half hour to get in and out or out each day so that’s at least 40 km a freeway or winding road driving.

    Hmmmm……

    So thats approx 11lt/100km.

    What model CRV ?

Honda CRV, second generation, 2003, very low mileage, I believe, two data, CVT,CVT

Haven’t looked at the plugs yet, but it runs beautifully brackets seemingly brackets thought I might as well run the codes first

    Hi

I messaged roughly how much gas my Honda CRV is using.

It looks like I got roughly 250 KM for ฿1000. This seems like a hell of a lot, so I got out my OBD two scanner ELM 327 and try it out last night. I’m sorry to come here to ask for interpretation, but I have Parkinson and you can’t use my hands in the morning typing with his voice typing these days.

I’ll send the results in the next post or in the next message

  10. Yes I'm just wondering if a typical OBD2 SCANNER complete with screen and button functions, price as low as $50 or less now, has any real advantages over  an elm327 Bluetooth module, (I own one availab

le for about 50baht!) where ones phone is the screen and  phone buttons replace scanner buttons. I'm they will have some assets like enhanced storage and so on, but I believe for instance that they elm 327 modules can handle resets and get any other information one may require from the censors in the engine.

    cheers

I highly recommend the ATOTO brand of Android units, if there is one for your car. You don't even need Android Auto then, although it is still an option.

The problem with Android Auto for me is that the wireless pairing is flaky, depending on the phone and head unit (2022 Fortuner with a Samsung Galaxy S21 does NOT work, for example).

Had an ATOTO unit in the Pajero before that and it was a dream. The only reason I've not installed one in the Fortuner yet is that I've not yet found a model that supports the 360 degree camera.

Had never heard of ATOTO before, knew they were Chinese and was expecting low quality, low features. I was very wrong. Bought mine from Amazon US although I also believe they sell direct from their website. I used a USB dongle and a True sim to give the ATOTO head unit fully internet access totally independent from my phone, but you could use the phone as a hotspot and do away with the need.

Android Auto is kind of OK, but having to use the phone, for me at least, is an inferior option than having all the features built into the head unit. You can also install pretty much ANY Android app, whereas what you can do with Android Auto is very limited (full screen video when stuck in traffic... Netflix, ODB2 connection to car diagnostics and a zillion other things).

    a first class answer.

    you might say ATOTAL answer

  12. Hi there
I have two Hondas, a 2003 CRV and a Jazz iDSL. The CRV especially has very low mileage, it’s like, driving a new car. So I don’t need anything new or expensive, but I am willing to update things like fitting an AV screen and fit a rear view camera. I did this when I bought the CRV with a 7 inch screen.
Fact is this now seems to be out of date, so I would now like to fit a 9 inch screen to make navigation easier.
I went to a very good shop near the train station yesterday.
It seems that to accommodate a larger screen they can fit a frame made for the model in question. (I’ve not been able to find the frame adaptors advertised…..anyone seen them?)

I am just wonder8ng if instead of paying a total of about 5500 for each car quoted for the device, the frame, and the camera, I could get my components from Lazada or similar. Fitting I could probably manage myself but rather not, so I’d like someone to do that.
if it was easy, could I still use the 7 inch screen fitted to the CRV with some sort of add-on hardware or software?

Lastly I’m not sure what these things are called…..is it Android Auto system? Or system AV? Would that be "Rabob Android Auto" in Thai.
I use both Mac (iPad) and Android (phone) and I think some at least of these devices will accommodate both from their ads. Am I right?

    Thanks in advance

Putting the poor kid into debt,  on a 20 year old banger, just leave the kid alone and move on. no need to repair it, it's cosmetic and no one gives a hoot, it will be scrapped in a few years anyway..

happily my CRV has done 200,000 miles less than this one.

and I have leather seats that look new.

Not to mention the picnic table.

I don't think I deserve you presenting me as some unfeeling swine, when I went out of my way and chose the lowest price body shop I know.

I felt it needed a wing because there's a tight little foldold or crease in the wing..... But on the advice of the body shop he says he could probably manage it and I'm okay with that...... and I am shortly about to call Dang klong Pratu, who I know, to get the best price possible for the headlight cluster. I could easily go to Honda and pay three times as much.

As I paid so much for meds that my household budget is way underwater I didn't see any reason I shouldn't get a contribution to repairs.

I gave both of these kids a warning about how easy it is to end up being affected for the rest of your life by the results of such dangerous driving is this.

No, you can keep your advice to yourself

Sorry I was wrong.  And what's that adjective describing Mr Scotty?

    Car Insurance Comparison

There are a number of insurance types you can get for your vehicle or motorcycle. Below is a detailed outline of each type.

    Type 1

This is the most expensive and comprehensive type of insurance offered in Thailand. It should cover you from all accidents and problems. Also, it’s the only insurance type that covers an accident not involving a third party, such as hitting a wall, hitting a dog, getting a scratch, and so on.

In some cases you need to pay an excess and in other cases you don’t have to pay for it.

Type 1 insurance is normally available to a vehicle that is less than seven years old. However, it is still possible to get Type 1 insurance for an older car as long as it has a good record and history without major accidents involved.

Which suggests that it the car's fault for any accidents, not the owner/driver.

    Thanks for that.

I tried to say Scotty is prolific. Carmakers quick at the thought of him dissing the latest model. He takes no commissions and I believe him.. still drives a,20year old Toyota and fixes cars in his driveway. He produces a great number of YouTube videos and presumably it is this that have made him worth 7 million$.

As well as new panels, I would get a new wife if I were you. One who gets FULL insurance on your pride & joy.

By the way, who the 4..k is Scotty Kilmer?

Just realised that you cannot get full insurance on a 20 year old banger.

Really you can't get insurance on a 20 year old eh?

Scotty kilmer is undoubtedly the most proli unific and followed carguru on YouTube. Give him a try.
