GP is highly unlikely to  know enough. A Western GP (if  keeping up with the literature) often will, but I haven't encountered a single GP in Thailand who has in depth, up to date knowledge on this. You need a specialist who is up to date on dyslipidemias or an up to date cardiologist.

But first get the direct LDL test. You can go direct to a lab for it and indeed that is better as GP may not even understand the difference.

Did I see a notice for a lab off the Mahidol Road anyone?

    I live south of town

@cheeryble  This is an interesting thread - I too avoided Statins for many years despite having what I thought was marginally high Cholesterol levels. After events last year, I now take the Atorvastatin 80mg daily and am supposed to be having a review in June this year.

Unfortunately the Covid outbreak has put a lot of appointments on hold here in UK. I've just logged a request for blood tests and hopefully a GP appointment (a telephone appointment would serve quite well here) so we shall see what we see.

Do keep us in the picture please.

May your events be little ones!!

ps interestingly the results give me a prediction of 15% odd of a CV event in the next ten years

You definitely need to get re-tested with a direct measure of LDL

Then as I said before consult a specialist up to date in these matters.

Quite possible stains not necessary. Don't rush into them

Very interesting and sounds valid Sheryl especially knowing your critical eye has been over it.... and perfectly happy to follow this route.

I have a very good relationship with the GP and who oversaw the check up and guess I can "question" him with no problem. I had a bad experience with another doc here once.

  4. Thanks to all.

    Age 71

As Parkys makes typing v slow I will put the basics.

    Total Cholesterol 218mg/dl

    Triglyceride 85

    HDL-C 59

    LDL-C 142

Ive always avoided statins but have exercised daily and quite hard

This has changed now I have PArkys I move slow am not strong and exercise is modest, so I'm willing to go the statin route if necessary.

  5. My LDL and total lipids are high

My HDL and triglycerides are optimal.

Ive just been prescribed atorvastatin 10mg which I believe is something over 500bt/30

Wife's mum happens to take simvastatin (lipitor?) and can give me free don't ask how.

Is there enough benefit to buy the atorvastatin given my total meds are already about 5000/month?

    Thanks

What do squirrels eat? Well, squirrels just happen to eat a lot of things. Squirrels are not picky eaters. If you have spent any time observing the eating habits of common squirrels, this is clear. Squirrels have a natural appetite for many native fruits, flowers, veggies, fungi, nuts, tree, plants and insects to their habitat.

    Beware Lyme disease

What diseases do squirrels carry? As many other rodents, squirrels are subjected to contracting and spreading various diseases, out of which some may pose only a slight discomfort while others can lead to more serious health problems. In general, squirrels that get in contact with humans in inhabited areas are rarely sick and dangerous for that

    Thanks for help

We have decided to leave the door open on the cage in the garden so feeding may not be a problem.

    Young nephew will be upset.

What is the pressure rating? If there is none then it isn’t designed for household water.

    I didn't ask.

The store is only open for asking questions and making orders.....the aisles are verboten it's a bit like a science fiction movie.

I was just checking if they sold the white stuff like I have bought from Homepro (I never use the blue stuff indoors if its visible), and will check my exact needs first.

They were making barriers outside from the same stuff, and it looks thick like proper pipe.

I remember the price used to be a little more than the blue.

White PVC conduit is not suitable for water under pressure in Thailand. It is thin walled and not at all the same "strength" as blue pvc or white Pimaflex or green PPR water pipes sold in Thailand.  White PVC pipes are often used for media cables or sometimes electrical cables when building a home in Thailand. You would be testing your luck to use the white PVC I see in Thailand for water pipes.

I found Home Mart open in CM yesterday, and they had the pipe.

I asked for white water pipe and they said yes and all the sizes.

Pretty suer it;s The Real Thing

You want white Pimaflex water pipe?  Thai Watsadu might sell it on line. Pimatec.com sells a quality white Pimaflex water pipe.

Hi Bob Im not sure I DO want Pimaflex.

I want the regular non flex plastic except white not blue.

    Is that it?

I can tell you that in Buriram at least 3 DIY stores are open.

    RuangsangThai

    HomePro

    Global House

About the others (Thai Watsadu etc) no idea, but these we personally contacted and are definitely open.

Global House said that they have changed opening hours from 8:30-17:30

The last line is a good clue

Anyone happen to know about the door shop on east side of Superhwy nr Chang Puak/MAe Rim road? I need that one too

  11. Dog caught a squirrel.

Mum got hold of it....possible damaged leg.

We've been keeping it in a basket with water and banana.

Nephew especially has been handling it and it now seems quite happy and seems undamaged now.

Mum's found a cage for it.

What should it eat? I thought muesli might be good.

I dare say we'll let it go but it would be nice if it was tame first it seems to enjoy being handled.

Or maybe it would be v happy in a nice cage and outings.

There is now a locally made generic equivalent, brand name Apalife made by  Unison an distributed by Medline.

I don't know the cost but has to be cheaper than Abilify.

However this is a controlled drug an usually available only from hospitals or clinics.

Thanks Sheryl yes I started with Ability from the hospital but its Apalife Im getting now discounted from 3600 to 2700bt.

A friend said he'd try his pharmacy in Bombay next time hes there but may be quite a while and may not have so was wondering about online ordering home/abroad or finding somewhere very discount in BKK.

Even in the US it seems available with online prescription for abt $15 for 30 x 5mg (though for as high as $900!!!)

I thought I might find someone here who knows the ropes.

It wouldn't be so bad but I also have to take other pills for a similar total amount so it adds up and maybe I could get the others supplied too.

I am supposed to be flying with Nok Air tomorrow but no notice of domestic cancellations. Maybe check with them.

They re still advertising CNX to DMK

I asked elsewhere if it was true someone arriving CM had to go into quarantine if coming from BKK and was probably going AA, now shut for business.

I could only find recommendations but not orders for quarantine.

Meanwhile a pal drove from the south 1400km to CM through ten roadblocks including a few temperature tests....no mention of quarantine or med certs etc

Anyone better informed? From DMK or SUV to CNX OK

    Thanks

Eldery people must stay home ..

    okay, okay...

But at which age are we old ?

I'm 71 old and when I cycle with my MTBike, a lot of young 40 year olds find it hard to follow me ..

    MUST stay home?

    I don't think so it's a recommendation.

It also looks to me like there's no curfew, and plane travel......though not recommended ......is OK.

I'm hoping to make a return flight to BKK from CM this weekend only staying in BKK a couple of hours not even leaving DMK. I don't see anything to stop me.

Im 71 also and although I have moderate Parkinson's i don't see that "weakens" my resistance.

    Anyone disagree?

(naturally I will mask up etc)

  15. Must be a week since I went to that shop, extra thick saa paper in hand to order the shade.

No call yet. (so much for business being dead)

    Bated breath.

    Time to scrub the base.

    MUM!!

  16. Would like to see an answer to thei last question though likely no one knows.

If I get  a Poerbank presumably I have the same prob getting one from Lazada......so where do I get?

    Anyone recommend a specific model/source/price?

Just an idea. Having an artist (in your case an japanese artist) or yourself drawing art on strong rectangle-concave shaped canvas , which then you can make it fit on the shade frame by the shops.

Some calculation and measurement from your shade will give you the concave area for the artist.

    EDIT

I have found a neat site with formula for the shade and concave form.

    http://mathcentral.uregina.ca/QQ/database/QQ.09.11/h/fleur1.html

Thanx for the research Metro Id had that second shape from you link in my mind the last few days  thinking how to lay out the fabric or whatever.

My Japanese artist is arriving later (Swedish ex prof of Jap art in China!)

We will go to BT and ask at the lampshade worksop.

Thinking they've prob done paper before and learn what we can as the painting is best done before shade making.

I'll take a couple photos maybe.....stay tuned all.

    Want to visit too Metro?

Please tell us the contact information for that place.  Thank you.

    No problemo.

It's at the back of a little shop area nearly opposite BKK Bank in Ban Tawai.

Lampshades and rolls of wrapping paper only.

They have a workshop somewhere else.
