The Mexican government filed a lawsuit against five Arizona gun dealers that it claims are responsible for the trafficking of illegal weapons into Mexico. The lawsuit, which was filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Arizona, claims that the gun dealers “systematically participate” in trafficking weapons and ammunition to cartels in Mexico by supplying gun traffickers. The dealers are helping cause the deadly cartel violence that occurs in Mexico, the lawsuit claims. https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/politics/border-issues/2022/10/12/arizona-gun-dealers-accused-of-trafficking-weapons-sued-by-mexican-government/10477794002/

An employee of former President Trump said the former president personally instructed workers in moving boxes of documents at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Fla., according to a new report from The Washington Post. The employee witness, who was not identified, told FBI agents that Trump directed his people to move boxes to his residence after a May subpoena from the government requested any remaining classified documents, the Post reported. Security footage allegedly confirmed that account. The witness reportedly first denied handling such documents, but switched stories in a second interview with federal agents, admitting to handling boxes of documents at Trump’s behest. https://thehill.com/regulation/national-security/3685517-employee-told-fbi-that-trump-personally-directed-moving-of-mar-a-lago-records-report/

An upcoming episode of the YouTube talk show The Shop: Uninterrupted has been scrapped after Kanye West allegedly used "hate speech and extremely dangerous stereotypes" in an interview. The move came as it emerged the star had shared a series of comments based on racist conspiracy theories in a separate interview with Fox News. Fox removed those segments before broadcast, but the footage was leaked to technology website Motherboard. https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-63226918

A 12-person jury in the sentencing trial of the Parkland, Florida, school shooter has begun deliberating over whether to recommend he be sentenced to death or life in prison. The jury, which received its instructions from Broward Circuit Judge Elizabeth Scherer in court Wednesday morning, about six months after jury selection first began, will be sequestered during deliberations. For jurors to recommend Nikolas Cruz get a death sentence, their decision must be unanimous. https://www.cnn.com/2022/10/12/us/nikolas-cruz-trial-jury-deliberation/index.html

A Minnesota man who claimed Antifa set fire to his camper during the political unrest of 2020 because he had displayed a Trump campaign flag admitted to staging the event and committing insurance fraud, the Justice Department announced Tuesday. Denis Molla, age 30, of Minneapolis suburb Brooklyn Center was indicted by a federal grand jury in July and pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud after being accused of defrauding and attempting to defraud an insurance agency and GoFundMe donors of more than $300,000 following the alleged incident, according to court records. In September 2020, Molla had “falsely reported to law enforcement that someone had lit his camper on fire and that three unknown males were near his home when he heard an explosion,” according to a DOJ news release. https://www.cnn.com/2022/10/12/us/trump-supporter-false-flag-fire-minnesota-camper/index.html

In the summer of 2020, Black Lives Matter protests swept through the United Kingdom, demanding the nation weed out systemic racism across its institutions. England’s footballers took the knee at every Euro 2020 match, books on racial injustice sold out, and the government agreed to hold inquiries. A racial reckoning was coming. Two years on, the urgency to find equitable paths forward appears to have been lost. The government is pressing ahead with plans to send to Rwanda hundreds — eventually tens of thousands — of men who arrive in the country from the Middle East, Africa and Asia seeking asylum. The government calls them “illegal” migrants because they arrive by boat. In reality, most are refugees. At the same time, the UK has opened its doors to more than 100,000 Ukrainians since Russia launched its war. https://www.cnn.com/interactive/2022/10/uk/othered-systemic-racism-uk-gbr-cmd-intl/

Lake Mead’s falling water level has exposed several shocking things in recent months – previously sunken boats, old war ships and human remains. Now scientists are reporting a new discovery on Lake Mead’s dry bed: rocks laced with volcanic ash that rained down on southern Nevada during explosive eruptions roughly 12 million years ago. The record-low water levels are exposing sedimentary rocks that haven’t been seen since the 1930s when the Hoover Dam was built and Lake Mead filled. Among these rocks, researchers with the University of Nevada in Las Vegas found ash deposits from volcanoes in Idaho, Wyoming and California. https://www.cnn.com/2022/10/12/us/lake-mead-volcanic-ash-exposed-climate/index.html

Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones has been ordered to pay $965m (£869m) in damages after falsely claiming the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting was a hoax. The families of eight victims, and an FBI agent who responded to the attack, had sought at least $550m in the defamation trial in Connecticut. They alleged the right-wing radio host's misinformation led to a decade's worth of harassment and death threats. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-63237092
