  1. A Scottish man heckled disgraced Prince Andrew at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral procession Monday, telling the Queen’s son he is a “sick old man.” The man was swiftly arrested after shouting at the prince while his older brother, King Charles III, led the procession of the late Queen’s coffin to St. Giles’ Cathedral. “Andrew, you’re a sick old man,” the heckler shouted before being yanked out of the crowd by a cop and members of the crowd. https://nypost.com/2022/09/12/prince-andrew-heckled-at-queen-elizabeths-funeral-procession/

  4. (CNN)North Korea has passed a new law declaring itself a nuclear weapons state in a move leader Kim Jong Un says is "irreversible." Kim vowed the country would "never give up" its nuclear weapons and said there could be no negotiations on denuclearization as he hailed the passage of the law, North Korean state media reported Friday. The new law also enshrines Pyongyang's right to use preemptive nuclear strikes to protect itself -- updating a previous stance under which it had said it would keep its weapons only until other countries denuclearized and would not use them preemptively against non-nuclear states. https://www.cnn.com/2022/09/09/asia/north-korea-kim-nuclear-weapons-state-law-intl-hnk/index.html

(CNN)The prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda said the Caribbean country will hold a referendum on whether to become a republic and remove King Charles III as the head of state within the next few years. The former British colony gained its independence from the United Kingdom in 1981 but is one of 14 countries in addition to the UK where the British monarch is head of state. It is also a part of the Commonwealth, a 56-member organization of mostly former British territories. https://www.cnn.com/2022/09/11/americas/antigua-barbuda-referendum-republic-king-charles-intl/index.html

Bonita Mentis set out to read victims’ names at the ground zero ceremony wearing a necklace with a photo of her slain sister, Shevonne Mentis, a 25-year-old Guyanese immigrant who worked for a financial firm. “It’s been 21 years, but it’s not 21 years for us. https://apnews.com/article/new-york-government-and-politics-c5e1bcbcf3327938bb3c1a34e4807a5d

  9. Trump wants to split the cost of the special master with the government but the DOJ wants him to pay for it Former President Donald Trump wants the government to split the cost of a special master, but the Department of Justice thinks he should foot the bill. US District Judge Aileen Cannon on Monday granted Trump's request to appoint a special master to review the records seized in the court-authorized search of Mar-a-Lago on August 8, but the Justice Department appealed the decision. Both sides submitted their proposed candidates for a special master in a court filing on Friday evening, with each naming two potential picks. https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-wants-split-cost-special-040938171.html

Health officials say wastewater samples in New York City and four adjacent counties have tested positive for a poliovirus that can cause paralysis. 15. New Prime Minister Liz Truss will limit energy bill rises for all households for two years as the new prime minister tries to prevent widespread hardship. A typical household energy bill will be capped at £2,500 annually until 2024. The huge support scheme could cost up to £150bn, but Ms Truss refused to put a figure on it, saying "extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures". Businesses will get help, with prices capped for six months, a shorter period of protection than many had hoped for. https://www.bbc.com/news/business-62831698
  16. Buckingham Palace released this official photo by Annie Leibowitz in April 2016 to mark the Queen's 90th birthday. She is pictured with four of her dogs: clockwise from top left Willow (corgi), Vulcan (dorgi), Candy (dorgi) and Holly (corgi). London (CNN)When Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch in British history, died on Thursday at the age of 96, she left behind not just her nation and family members but a gaggle of canine companions. Throughout her long life, she was regularly photographed with a Welsh corgi at her feet -- a dog breed that became synonymous with the monarch. But while every detail of what would happen following her death was minutely planned, little is known about what the future holds for her beloved pups, who will now be looking for new homes. https://www.cnn.com/2022/09/09/uk/queen-elizabeth-dogs-intl-scli-gbr/index.html

  19. Former Trump White House adviser Steve Bannon is preparing to face New York state charges that he defrauded donors to the nonprofit group We Build the Wall to construct a wall on the U.S.-Mexican border. The case is expected to be similar to a previous federal case in which Bannon was indicted but never tried because Trump pardoned Bannon before that could happen. Bannon and others are accused of skimming money from the donors for personal use on things like travel and and credit card debt. In the original federal case, there were three co-defendants. https://www.npr.org/2022/09/07/1121447226/steve-bannon-fraud-charges
  20. CNN -- A Republican county official in Georgia escorted two operatives working with an attorney for former President Donald Trump into the county's election offices on the same day a voting system there was breached, newly obtained video shows. The breach is now under investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and is of interest to the Fulton County District Attorney, who is conducting a wider criminal probe of interference in the 2020 election. The video sheds more light on how an effort spearheaded by lawyers and others around Trump to seek evidence of voter fraud was executed on the ground from Georgia to Michigan to Colorado, often with the assistance of sympathetic local officials. https://www.cnn.com/2022/09/06/politics/surveillance-video-voting-machine-breach-coffee-county-georgia/index.html
  21. (CNN) A federal judge threw a wrench Monday in the Justice Department investigation into potential mishandling of documents from former President Donald Trump's White House by granting his request for a special master to review evidence seized from his Florida home last month. The win for Trump temporarily prevents the Justice Department's investigative team from accessing the thousands of documents -- some of which are marked as classified -- taken from Mar-a-Lago. US District Judge Aileen Cannon cleared the way for a third-party attorney to review all the seized materials, not just for documents covered by attorney-client privilege -- the circumstance in which special masters are usually used -- but also for potential executive privilege concerns, a move the Justice Department has said would be "unprecedented." https://www.cnn.com/2022/09/05/politics/takeaways-trump-cannon-mar-a-lago-special-master/index.html

(CNN)Jessica Flores stepped out of the Port Authority Bus Terminal with her husband and their 6-year-old daughter into the unfamiliar heart of Manhattan, where giant billboards sparkled under a sweltering late summer sun. The sidewalks and traffic lanes along bustling Eighth Avenue were packed when the family emerged carrying plastic bags with all their belongings. Visitors, homeless people and commuters clutching cups of iced coffee crammed the street. Nearby, pedestrians dodged yellow cabs, double-decker tour buses and electric bicycles. https://www.cnn.com/2022/09/02/us/migrants-new-york-texas-buses/index.html
  23. According to a report from the Washington Post, prospects that Donald Trump's Truth Social will survive are growing bleak with the company that had planned to take the social media platform public now suggesting that a probable bankruptcy is on the horizon. As the report points out, Truth Social has not been paying for web-hosting fees to the point where attorneys are now involved, traffic is collapsing, the value of stock in the company is plunging and money is running out. With the Post reporting, "Former president Donald Trump's Truth Social website is facing financial challenges as its traffic remains puny and the company that is scheduled to acquire it expresses fear that his legal troubles could lead to a decline in his popularity," WaPo's Drew Harwell wrote that the former president's legal problems have added another cloud of Truth Social's future. https://www.salon.com/2022/08/28/truth-social-is-headed-for-bankruptcy_partner/?fbclid=IwAR2VRwLfbkzCM30y66NPKxU3tKVDJ1fQlPnPLTJcwm42EpmYMGPm3KRBrDI https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/08/27/trump-truth-social-mar-a-lago-fbi/
  24. Section 377A of Singapore's Penal Code was promulgated in 1938 by the British colonial government when Singapore was a British colony. (CNN)Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Sunday said the country will repeal the colonial-era Section 377A of Singapore's Penal Code, thereby decriminalizing gay sex in Singapore, but added that same-sex marriage will continue to be illegal in the city-state. "Sex between consenting men should not be criminalized. There is no justification to prosecute people for it, nor to make it a crime," he said at his annual policy address, the National Day Rally, carried live on television. "I believe (repeal) is the right thing to do, and something that most Singaporeans will now accept. https://us.cnn.com/2022/08/21/asia/singapore-gay-sex-law-section-377a-intl/index.html
