  1. Sorry, I don't know the exact numbers because i would never buy one (japan spec that is). I can just go from what i have read and what a friend has said about one he's owned (2008CBR1000RR).

    Brian,

The bikes from Red Barron are US spec bikes, they still are not full spec like the EU (-7hp) bikes but if you plan to get a PCV or Bazzaz sysem, for an extra 3000Baht you can add a Ignition retarder control that makes it full spec. If you need any more info about the US spec just send me a PM, i have two of them (08 models).

All Red Barron bikes will come with Green book unless you request not to have one before the bike arrives, i've never bought a new bike from them but they give 3 month warranty on all other bikes, so i'm guessing thats about all you would get on a new model.

If it was me i would just buy one of the bikes they have in the show room, they have 2 CBR1000 08 or 09 with CABS for 470,000 & 480,000 with book. The only big difference in the 2012 model would be the upgraded suspension.

I figured they would include a plate and green book with a second hand import, but wasn't sure how it worked with a brand new import.

When I get some more experience, I'll get that info from you and convert it to U.S. spec.

Thanks so much for your helpful information.

  2. Just a bit curious about the pricing guys. The Japanese spec version w/ ABS that AP Honda is selling is 799,000. This is the on the road price, including green book and plate.

I just called Red Baron and they said that they would have the American spec CBR 1000RR w/ ABS for around 700,000. Does this price include emission testing (30-40 thousand baht) and green book (80,000 baht+)? Also how do warranties work on imports bought from independent dealers?

    Thanks for your help.

  3. I just got back from the Bangkok Bike Festival. Like I said earlier today, all of the new Honda big bikes are going to be imported from Japan. However, from what I can gather, 400-600 cc Hondas will be manufactured here in Thailand next year. I can understand the disappointment people are feeling at the moment, as I was also hoping for Thai manufactured Honda Big Bikes.

On a more positive note, I placed a pre-order for a new CBR 1000RR. I was the first one and will pick it up at the Big Wing grand opening in April. I don't think I can wait that long though.

Also, it was great meeting some of the TV forum members today. I hope to meet more of you in coming days.

    Brian,

Hopefully you know already but the CBR1000RR that Honda Big Bike will be selling is the detuned Japan Spec, meaning you'll have about 120hp instead of the 178hp, unless you change ECU, exhaust and a few other small things.

I just came back from the BMF and had a chat with one of the Honda guys. also, the CRF250L is also detuned compared to the CBR250R.

Thanks, I knew the U.S. and Japanese versions had different specs, but I didn't realize they were that different. As I'm going from a CBR 250 to a CBR 1000, I think 120hp will suit me just fine. I'll give it a year at 120 and make the mods you suggested.

I also like that it can be serviced at Honda's Big Wing Center.

  5. the strong rumour for the Honda the big bike range is

    Honda Gold Wing (GL1800)

    Honda CBR1000RR

    Honda NC700X (700cc.)

    Honda Integra (700cc.)

    Honda VFR1200F (1200cc.)

    Honda CRF250R

I guess it will be confirmed today and then it will be a matter of prices

I can confirm that these are the bikes. I saw them when I was delivering bikes to the Bike Festival last night. Sadly, it looks like they are all going to be imports, for this year at least.

  6. Just a bit of an update on the show. Apparently AP Honda has something special planned and they don't want dealers to have booths at the show. We will still be at booths Z23 and Z24, but we will be going by the name of our riding club. Just look for the CBR 250 Nonthaburi banner. The modified CBRs will be on display inside on the second floor. We hope to see you all there. Thanks.

  7. The Honda NC700X is a whole new breed of motorcycle. Talk about a car company that happens to make motorcycles. For myself, I know jack squat. See what Kevin Ash has to say about it.

Wow - certainly an interesting read & an interesting bike. The article says it's made in Japan.. 50hp and 228kg doesn't really get me excited though... (from tech specs section here http://www.huntsmoto...onda-nc700x.htm)

There appears to be a free trade agreement with Japan also.

Sure there is, but it's an annual reduction stretched out over 10 years and with the Yen as strong as it is the reduction in tariffs has little effect on the end price in Thailand. Hell, Red Baron is importing most bikes direct from the US these days because sourcing them from Japan is just too expensive.

Good point about the strong Yen. This is why Honda is going to move some large and midsize motorcycle production to Thailand.

  8. We are still planning on going. We are planning on staying at or just outside Erawan National Park. So far we have more than 10 bikes going. We are going to book accommodations in the next day or two. I'll give you guys more details when we get this and the itinerary sorted. Thanks.

  9. Sumet Cycle will have a booth there with a few modded CBRs on display. I hope to see you guys there.

    Brian

Will try to get up to Bkk and come along to the event, will stop by if I can get there.

I hope you can make it. We will be in booths Z23 and Z24 near the stunt area.

Any hondas taking part in the stunt show? passifier.gif

Yes, the CRF 250 and the CBR 600F will be in the stunt show.

  10. I had a 2004 Yamaha R1 in Boston and I considered myself a experienced, sometimes wild driver. But after seeing the way people/taxis/buses (i hate the buses) drive in Bangkok i wouldn't dare ride a bike. I get on a motorbike taxi to get out of my soi, but that's as far as im willing to go. Those of you who ride here, you are fearless and i wish i had your courage lol smile.png

If you've ridden in Boston, I'm sure you would do fine here. I swear, people from Boston and Bangkok have the same driving genes. Welcome, it's nice to have a fellow Bostonian on the Forum.

  11. Most dealers are not allowed to sell bikes for export. For example, AP Honda requires us to send them a list of bikes we have sold with their registration numbers. Some exporters get around this by registering the bike and then cancelling the registration before export.

I think your best bet would be to find a shipping/export company with experience in this field. Best of Luck.

  12. I recently took a trip up to Kanjanaburi with some friends. We stayed at Erawan National Park and did the Si Sawat Loop a couple of times. If anyone is looking for a challenging ride with incredible roads, this place is for you.

Here is a link to the route map from Erawan to Sri Sawat. In my opinion, this was the best part of the ride. http://g.co/maps/zhxk2

  13. The new Click 125 has a 5.5 liter tank compared to a 3.6 liter tank on the Click 110.

I agree that the Spacy will make a great grocery getter. I have ridden it and it is quite nippy through traffic. The seat is very comfortable and I was able to fit my full face Shoei X-12 under it. We have one available for test rides, if anyone is interested.

I also agree that changing stickers doesn't really make a new model. It's too bad they didn't tweak the design of the CBR 150 a bit more.

  14. That Shad 40 on the right is the exact one I have on my Nouvo 135.

It's awesome, still going strong after 2.5 years of sitting outside and 7000Kms!

You're not supposed to put too much weight in any of these but I've filled it with beers and sodas on short trips with no problem.

In hindsight I would consider a bigger bin if I could do it over.

You'll appreciate the largest size possible without hitting car mirrors when you split lanes.

I also have a Givi Maxia 55 but its simply too wide for a scooter and turns out to be crap for off roading on my DTX250.

I also had a Givi E30 but the Shad has a better handle design.

I thought the GIVI had a better handle design? It can be carried like a suitcase.

Can the Shad be removed fairly easily? I mean without having to undo nuts & bolts.

I'm thinking of transfering it between bikes on occasions. But not so easy that thieves can be away with it Are there some models that can only be removed easily if one has the key?

Shad 40 seems big for a Nouvo.I thought a 30L seemed plenty big enough for my Spark.

Can you remember the price of yours?

Sorry for all the questions. But I like to have most of the answers before I buy something, and most of you will realise how hard it is getting answers to these kinds of questions at the shops here.

Funnily enough, one motorbike shop that only had Shads for sale at the time told me that GIVI were better quality.

The Shad can also be carried like a suitcase. I've been using a SH 40 for about a year now. I am very happy with it.

To mount it on a Nouvo, a metal rack would be placed where your grab bar is located. A base plate would then be bolted to the rack. The box then attaches to the base plate. The box can only be removed from the base plate with a key.

You could also use the box on more than one bike, but you would need to have a base plate and rack on the other bike.

I've sent you a PM with more details. Thanks.

    Brian

Brian. hope you and the shop are well after the flooding.. what rack options are available for the Cbr250 now.. anything new/better?

We were very lucky and avoided any real damage, thanks. How did you make out?

I haven't seen any new or better rack systems. I have seen some guys with some nice side panniers on their bikes though. I believe Alpine Stars makes them.
