  1. [The last election totally validated their reasons for protesting. They knew they were the electoral majority being deprived of governance by an electoral minority.]

The last election validated that the MAJORITY of the Thai people did NOT vote RED SHIRT.

The numbers I've seen say that about 17% of the Thai population identifies as being Red Shirt.

Which was amply on display in Khao Yai yesterday.

A friend and I estimated the crowd at about 300,000, as we were checking out its more "attractive features"

I am told that officially, it was estimated at closer to 500,000.

So what is 200,000 more or less.

More than 10,000 people had arrived at the venue before dusk. Police Major General Phanu Kerdlarpphol, head of Region 3 police, said 500 officers had been deployed for the concert

Must have been busy then some 490.000 more arriving after dusk.

  2. -since many years aircons do not have heating elements,

-heating is done by reversing the cooling cycle (inside unit heating, outside unit cooling),

-not every aircon is equipped with that function and the function is not limited to inverter units,

-the price of the so-called "heat-pump" unit is ~20% higher,

-reason for the higher price is that both inside and outside unit heat-exchangers are built for both cooling and heating function triggered by a rather expensive 4-way solenoid valve.

p.s. i have never seen a heat-pump version for sale in Thailand but they might be available up north where the nights can get really cool.

My wrong to think that the heating was done by a heating element.

However my point was that I'm from the opinion that they aren't sold in Thailand since nobody would want to waste that money in a climate where they aren't needed.

Maybe Mr Harry has a for Thailand exclusive model?

  3. Duh because taxes and duties are obvious. Was looking for the reason behind it, i.e. ALL imports now have excessive duties/taxes, non-Asean trade agreements, etc. Years ago these high fees only applied to specific imports like luxury and performance cars, not inexpensive econo cars with small engines. Was curious what the current criteria was that commanded a doubling/tripling in price. As I've been asked by many Thais, thought it would be nice to explain why other than 'taxes'.

    Posted with Thaivisa App http://apps.thaivisa.com

New cars have always been subject to over 200% import duty's, I think it is even closer to 300%, no distiction made between luxury or not.
  4. As a British citizen, if he is sent back home, is he prosecuted under British law?

I know some western countries had enacted laws regarding paedophiles operating overseas.

Canada has a treaty with Thailand as I'm sure the UK would also. In this case if he is sentenced to 25 years here he will serve 15 years then serve the rest in the UK and according to the treat he has to serve full sentence back home.

It is the same with any case. Serve 15 years here then the rest in your own country.

Thailand used to have a motto and even signs up only a few years ago that said: "Do a crime in Thailand, do the time in your country"

Looks a bit like a promotion banner.
  5. I'm jealous too, but I just bottle it up.

Soon as the redecoration and the school fees are paid ...

    SC

You don't have first grader in the family?

Should earn you a free tab by while paying those school fees, probably an Ipad since Yingluck said she want quality.

  6. I am happy with my Mitsu inverter....especially these cold mornings/

Do you mean it works so bad that it actually heats up and breaks the cold? biggrin.png

If you bother to find out about Mitsu inverters they also heat the room. In fact inverter airconditioners are one of the most cost efective ways of doing this.

You must be from Notunderstandjokeland,by the way I always thought that in Thailand the heating element was emoved from the aircons.
  7. What proof do you have that the e-mail is from this d!ckhead? (I'm not saying you're making it up, but you have to provide proof and a name isn't proof)

Just let the guy stew - he's in trouble anyway regarding the court case, why bother yourself with this

He admitted to sending the emails in a sworn Thai court document

But you say in the OP that you received this email after the judgement.
  8. Sorry I haven't replied, hard drive on comp. packed up!

LennyW--I think I can remember seeing that shop on Suk. rd. but when I tried to find it the other day I either missed it or it's no longer there.

As for an electric machine-- all the ones I've seen are quite small--30cm. cutter. It would take an age to cut my grass! There's also a lot of trees in my garden so I don't want to get tangled up!

I really want to find a repair place that someone has used and can reccomend them or who has bought one of the mowers that are currently on sale at Home Pro or Home Mart-- Asgatec.

Pattayapope-- I'm pretty sure it's more than a blocked filter because when I run it it uses more oil than petrol.

Whenever I've taken the mower for repair and service they've just got it running and then think it's OK!

    Thanks for the replies.

That shop is still there, if you are coming from Pattaya Klang towards Pattaya Tai on Sukhumvit it must be about half way - about 100m before you come to the Highway police station.

The shop on Sukhumvit is gone, and they rent the place out to two other businesses. The shop across foodland is stil there but they stopped selling Briggs and Stratton approximately 10 years ago.

I know because I bought a Honda Lawn cutter from them the other day and asked if they didn't sell B & S.They still service the Briggs and Stratton with the parts they have in stock since the current B&S is made in China and there is no importer in Thailand anymore.

B & S is sold at Global house Chonburi and Rayong at 15900 Baht for a 5.5 Hp 190CC self propelled with all bells and whistles including a 56 cm cutting knife. They don't service machines however and that made me decide to buy a Honda where I would preferred the B&S

  9. But surely now-PM Yingluck promised the students notebooks like her own one, wasn't it a reasonable Samsung-product, which she displayed pre-election ? Is she only now beginning to doubt her ability to deliver ?

She should read ThaiVisa, where the flaws have been widely-discussed, for months now !

Never mind ... it was only a 'pre-election promise'. rolleyes.gif

By stating the proposed tablets are too cheap, it's a way to justify an even higher expenditure than the Billions already allocated. wink.png

    .

And it is the perfect excuse to delay the handout further untill they can blame someone else for the cancellation of the program..................The military springs to mind.
  10. I have said in post#18 already that I suspect that most "car thefts" happen from rental companies, and in fact I don't consider them thefts but scams.

Tell that to the rental company owner that had to ask me for the car back as he had to sell it to pay his rent.............

What's your point actually.I didn't say the rental company scams,it are the renters who scam the company.

The OP is about alarm systems to prevent theft.

Even if the rental company had built in the most expensive and sophisticated alarm system available the cars would still have been stolen.

  11. After having several cars boosted, one in particular I put a lot of heart into, I recommend buying good insurance, don't leave valuables in the car, don't drive something that is not easily replaced, and don't get too attached.

Just a question,do you live in Thailand?

I have in 17 years living here never heard about a stolen car.Motorbikes a lot,but never a car.

Ive lived here for 6 years and at one point in time rented a car for 6 months. Said rental company had 9 vehicles stolen in during that 6 month period.

I have said in post#18 already that I suspect that most "car thefts" happen from rental companies, and in fact I don't consider them thefts but scams.

I don't say there are NO ordinary car thefts in Thailand,as they happen on an hourly base in farang land, but they are far and between in Thailand.Spare wheels and motorbikes but Thais don't have the knowledge to disarm an half decent alarm system.

I also doubt that the OP has a rental company.

  12. By the way I am British, I live in the UK, I live and own businesses in one of the most rough and tumble parts of Glasgow. I showed these threads to several friends today and they are incredulous, absolutely incredulous and highly amused at the litany of wingeing and self pity displayed by many contributors. Pitiful, quite pitiful.

So at the risk of getting into trouble, and being subjected to a mass attack by the Malcontents, I ask, is it time for a separate Forum called Brits in Thailand so that these repetitive, racist and controversial threads can get parked out of sight of the people that actually enjoy life in Thailand?

So what do you know about people living in Thailand, and if they enjoy or not?

Yes, I live here, but I never realized that there hasn't been a car stolen here in 17 years, that’s amazing.

I guess I’ll start cancel my insurance, start leaving valuables in the car, buy an old classic and pour a lot of work into it and leave unlocked, Thanks for the Tip!cowboy.gif

Never said that there is no car theft in Thailand, only said that I never heard of one which means the same as that it will be very little compared to the western world. As another poster mentioned already,I guess most of the cars stolen are rented cars.
  14. However, while waiting for the charter to be completed and then a general election, Thaksin plans to reshuffle his sister's Cabinet for a second time once the 111 are no longer subject to the ban.

Some of the 111 banned politicians, such as Sudarat, Pongthep Thepkanchana, Prommin Lertsuridej, Chaturon Chaisang, Varathep Ratanakorn and Suranand Vejjajiva, would then be appointed ministers in Yingluck's Cabinet.

So in Thailand you can with a cabinet reshuffle appoint citizens that weren't even eligible for election as minister?I always wondered what was the meaning of democracy.

The Democrat Party, through Sukhumbhand, failed to impress Bangkokians over tackling the problem, despite [the party] being in administration [of the capital] for almost eight years. So it's time for us to win back Bangkokians' hearts," Thaksin was quoted as saying.

I doubt very much that the PTP impressed in handling the floods.

  16. I'll have to check the price for pool salt again. I'm paying 120THB for 25kg regular non-iodized TRS salt 2.6% moisture content.

So next time order the pool salt,it will cost you probably 5 Baht more.Call the TRS headoffice and ask who their representative is in your area, they will be happy to give you his number.
  17. As I read it, family woke up upon hearing the struggle downstairs and confronted the assailants that were ransacking the premises. Is this correct? Poor chap. I wonder if the motive was the assumption that as a freelance life insurance agent he would have had premiums on hand, i.e. had collected payments?

No doubt he had a good life insurance
