  1. Most coolants I've seen around are premixed, and no need to add water as they have demineralised water added already.

Don't confuse coolant with antifreeze whci shoul be added to the radiator water, but isn't used anymore for 2 decades I guess.

Have any idea Caltrex coolant used by Honda is premixed? I went to Lotus, look around for coolant and found a few and it was stated that it should be mixed with water.

I have no idea about that, but I understand that you have the empty bottles so I will be written on them.Even if it is in Thai you will be able to read something stating a percentage.

By the way in the OP you say Castrol, now you say Caltex.

Just seen Peak antifreeze and coolant on the net and is a 96% concentrate which need water!! Before moving here from US,5 years ago, they still made antifreeze, and prestone was my favorite and had to be mixed!

Of course they still make antifreeze as some countries are always a bit "behind".biggrin.png

  3. You can build a house with those dimensions for 90.000 Baht upcountry.I guess someone is taking you.

6 cubic 210 steng should be around 13.000 Baht, add another 1200 Baht for labour and 3000 for the reinforcement steel.

I think it's time to look for another fiance.

  4. So you have only just realised that a warranty on anything in Thailand is not worth the paper it`s written on, that`s if you`re lucky enough to have it in writing.

Here it`s like the run of the dice, some we win, some we lose.

Lost count of how many faulty goods I`ve had to throw away over the years.

BTW, how long have you lived here?

I have lived here for 17 years and untill recently I was of the same opinion as you. Then I opened a topic on this board about an issue I had with a faulty item which resulted in an advice from Sunbelt Asia to contact the board of consumer protection Thailand. They have an office in every cityhall in Thailand.

Well, that advice has earned me more than 100.000 Baht since, for which I otherwise would have had no other choice than pulling my nose.

For sure it isn't worth to contact them for a 2000 Baht warranty which isn't honored, but for bigger amounts it is.Companies who were not responding or laughing with my claims for months in line give a positive response within hours after a simple phonecall from this departement.

If you have a serious issue,my only advice to you is to go visit them and your issues will disappear like snow for the sun.

I wish I had known about that kind of chlorinator when we built our pool 6 years ago. It's not that difficult to maintain the ph manually but an auto system would have made life that much easier.

I've seen the pool salt at one dealer here in Udon Thani but couldn't understand why it was much more expensive than the regular salt. Now I know.

Can you please explain why adding regular salt (non-iodized) to the water could damage the chlorinator cell?

First of all, pool salt isn't more expensive as I pay 125 baht for a 25 Kg bag.I think the regular salt cost 10-15 baht more.

Damaging is maybe a bit strong worded, but pool salt doesn't contain any additives which can stain on the chlorinator cell because if your chlorinator cell is stained it will have to work harder to generate the same amount of chlorine which in return will shorten the life of the cell.

  6. So $486,381 handed from one Golden Triangle country

to another Golden Triangle country, to "eradicate drugs"

in 3 years..... never mind this is utterly impossible,

but this just seems more like repatriating drug profits to

the Myanmar Junta, but making it look less obvious.

They make more than this 'eradication budget' every month

making, moving and selling the drugs...

You couldn't buy off a drug lord with this, let alone close him down.

I guess that is a bit of an under-estimate.More likely they make 15 Million Baht a day.
  7. funnily enough they have just in the last couple of weeks paved the area between the path and the road, now they will have to pull it up again

hopefully they wont get around to doing this, if anything they should take a lane off that road, theres already too much traffic going no where on it and with an extra lane they will have to put in either policed pedistrian crossings or overbridges so people can get to the beach without being run over

Don't worry about that,if they widen the road and extend the promenade that it will keep it's current size, there will be no beach left anymore hence the no need for pedestrian crossings or bridges.
  8. Yesterday, I was comparing air cons at Homepro & Numchai; Daikin and Mitshu: At Numchai - Daikin? No have... ok, Mitshu? More expensive than Homepro, financing with CC, 0% interest only 4 or 6 month, can't remember

At Homepro: My prefered brand, Daikin, available, the Mitshu models cheaper than Numchai, CC financing 10 month, 0 % interest, instalation cost the same... guess who got the order

I'm for sure not a Numchai fanboy as you can notice from a post higher up in this thread, but if Homepro was cheaper on the aircons it must have been a very special promotion or they scammed with the model numbers since they are always definitely more expensive for aircons than anyone in the region. As for Daikin it is available at Numchai as I had a price quotation for Daikin inverters at Numchai.

Also be very aware of Homepro as they will give only 7 days service on electrical appliances, after that you will have to deal directly with the manufacturer service center.

I would like to add a few minor points to your post please.

    1. you will have to add salt to the pool if you lose water to anything other than evaporation as only the water (without salt) will evaporate. ie the rainy season will add lots of free water to your pool probably forcing you to drain water from the pool. In this case you will also need to top up your salt.

    2. chlorine levels will remain stable as long as you remember to add cyanauric acid to the pool water to protect the chlorine from being neutralized by the sun.

Now for a question. How does your chlorinator control your ph? I usually have to add a little acid to my pool from time to time to control the ph especially after adding water from the loacl water supply.

My Chlorinator is connected to a hydrochloric acid container. In the chlorinator I can set the preferred Ph level and the chlorinator will check the level continiously,if the Ph is too high the chlorinator will add the required acid to bring it back to the level I have entered.

As for the cyanuric acid, you can use the pool salt I recommended in another post as it contains stabilizer.Cyanuric acid also doesn't evaporate.

  10. I don't know where you are located but here in Pattaya at Boy air &sound, and probably all over Thailand, they sell a device which is mounted around the steering column and which blocks the brake pedal and steering wheel.Something similar as in Aussiebebe post but invisible. It must be decent as it comes with a free 1 year theft insurance from Viryah.

  11. Yeah yeah,I remember from another thread that you are also the one who manage a night out in the town with 100 Baht.

I usually spend 200-250bht on a night out so you must be confusing me with someone else.

    As for a Visa

As an American, he can just go along to an American Consulate, swear he has an income of 65kbht a month, get the document then apply for a 1 year retirement extension of stay. Immigration seem to only check some people out.

Oops,my mistake you should change your username to BigSpender in that case.biggrin.png
  12. What's he going to do for entertainment at home? TV? That's another purchase. He won't be staying in a place that has western channels, Thai TV only. Will he want to watch Thai TV, methinks he'll need a DVD player. Another purchase. What's he going to watch on his DVD player? He's going to have to buy some movies and quite a few unless he wants to watch the same movies all the time. Perhaps he's happy reading instead. Whoop, that'll mean he has to buy books.

The place I mentioned includes free wi-fi and WETV, you do need your own Tv and computer, but they are cheap.

Eating out costs 30-40bht a meal. He could do it, he's used to being poor, but I wouldn't find it any fun.

Some of you nay-sayers are just used to a different lifestyle. MY MIL lives very happily on 3500bht a month.

Interestingly the usually 'apologists' are all saying you can't do it, but many Thais manage on this amount and seem fairly happy.

Yeah yeah,I remember from another thread that you are also the one who manage a night out in the town with 100 Baht.

  13. I have a chlotinator-equipped pool. I can't see what the fuss is about with the chlorination (salt water) approach. It's easier to throw a bit of chlorine in twice a week than lump heavy bags of salt around IMO (compressed slow-release chlorine discs if you don't like handling raw chemicals). The pool feels/smells no different with either system. Look around on TV threads - you will find others who would go further and accuse the pool industry of a marketing con-job.

Maybe I should sell you my Astral Pool (Australian) kit!

In a salt water pool you don't slump around with heavy bags of salt.Salt doesn't evaporate so you will only have to add salt if you lose water.

Also no need to check your chlorine level 2-3 times a week since once you have set the chlorinator to the correct settings you chlorine level will be stable 24/7.Something what not can be said from a chlorine pool.

My chlorinator also keeps the Ph level to exact the setting I prefer,so all I do is vacuum the pool.

So if you needs to add salt on a frequent base that means you are losing water.

  14. I think I found it in google map. Is the Big C located at Central Centre Pattaya ? If I am correct, it's location is 3 kms from Royal Garden Plaza by the beach road, but it's considered far from Walking Street, isn't it ? A bit confused by Google Map, I also find McDonalds Royal Garden Plaza just less than 1 km from Central Centre Pattaya, are there 2 Royal Garden Plaza ?

    No,but there are 2 centrals.
  15. That stuff is for only if you get a puncture and will get you home,it should not be used for long term use and not at speed!you should not be loosing that much pressure overnight,i think you have a slow puncture!

    Right.

    Thank you.

So you don't know where I can buy this?

    R

I bought this product long time ago in Carrefour, not sure if Big C stocks it.I have however recently seen in Tesco an aircompressor from MYcar where you insert an included liquid and it claims to inflate and repair tyres. It works on 12 Volt .
  16. I don't understand this part... "an additional traffic lane will be added to Beach Road. This will take away about 3 meters of the promenade along the 3 kilometer road, leaving the footpath, although it will be thinner."

What happens at the turn just before Walking Street? Will the additional lane merge back into lane 2 (lane 1 being next to the businesses), will those beer bars at the turn be knocked down? Seems strange.

Of course they will be knocked down, they doing that for the past 19 years if I remember correctly.

  17. I pay about 50 baht a month for mobile phone and under 1000 for internet. You can fit that in on $300.

In fact internet would help a lot of people save money. You could play World of Warcraft 16 hours a day, eat from food carts, and easily come in under $300 a month since your main hobby only costs $15 per month

That is of course exluding the 35$ for the internet,as mention yourself, the purchase of a computer, the electric it uses etc.etc.
