  1. Hmmmm seen to recall several posters lamenting the floods for crop damage while I was lambasted for saying it would produce more crops being so high in nitrates and various human and other sorts of fertilizers. Rice being a frigging a water grown crop the flooding never seemed to be so detrimental to me in that sense and I guess that also proves true once again it's not just the subsidy..

So we should say, YAY, for the governments mishandling of the flood situation.
  2. "I dropped the 4 THB 100 notes before the lady onsite could grab them, so at least she had to work for it."

Those notes have the image of the King. Dropping them on the ground is offensive (possibly seen as lese majeste) and secondly, the lot cashier is paid to do her job, not put up with cnuts like you.

This might not be over yet.. Upon returning for R&R via Emirates Airway, and making a few acquaintances while inflight we agreed to share a Mini-Bus to Pattaya.. six of us now. While waiting in the lobby and securing a taxi-bus, we noticed we could not account for one person. Further inquiring with the Airport Police had us speaking with Immigration.. Four of us left and agreed to meet up later on Soi 6 Foxy or Roxy Bar. The one person that stayed behind waiting for his Pal relayed this story to us... Carl was detained as a result of Lese Majeste incident that had occurred 8 months earlier. He apparently wodded up a 1000baht bill when settling a dispute with a bar manager, after calling to police..After wodding the bill up apparently he dropped it into an empty glass. The BIB asked him to make a copy of his passport and was allowed to leave....

Upon arriving this time his name had appeared on some system that flagged him as a person of interest.. He was detained for a period of 16 days which had him back on the flight back to our duty station..

I then discovered that 98% of all Lese Majeste incidents are found guilty. Most of them are released on Christmas Day by a The King's Pardon. This person could be lucky or maybe just waiting for the hammer to fall and does not know it...

Unlucky for the OP is that Christmas this year is another 11 months I should say.

  3. The scooters should be around 150 baht/day. 1000 deposit + copy of passport.

"2nd best time to plant a tree is today." Sent from ThaiVisa app.

Phil posted the OP for me as I was away from computers...thanks again for the help!

They needed an original passport, but I had only a copy on me. Rented then a bike a bit down the road at La Cerise, some French cafe and guest house. Very friendly service and 200 Baht a day for a Yamaha Nuovo.

Bob actually also charges 200 Baht for the new bikes.

So I guess you're trying to explain that I missed out on some extra beer money?Only because you thought it would be ok to rent a bike with a copy passport, at least thats how I read it.biggrin.png

  4. Same same.

Instead of the guns reference, I now see what you don't need. Crtl-F5 did the trick.

    Can you confirm?

I first deleted my guns avatar, but could not load the current avatar as each time the gun would show up again regardless of how many times I cleared the cache and closed the browser, however I was able to load another one which I did.

Kept that one for I guess 30 minutes and then removed it,at which time the system allowed me to load the current one.

Edit to add: Take notice that after almost a week now still he old one shows up in my profile.

  5. I still have not seen Coke Zero, etc. at Big C, but bought a couple 1.25 L bottles at Tesco on Pattaya Nua today.

I also saw some of the smaller bottles of Coke Zero at a Family Mart on Second Rd., so the drought, caused by the flooding, could be coming to an end. Off topic, the ice cream freezer at the Family Mart was also full, including a good supple of Magnum ice cream bars. Hmmm. Coke Zero and the Magnum bars. Hmmm.

I still haven't seen many items at big C,they are far behind on the other shops.Says everything about their customer care.
  6. Hi Moon River, thanks for the detailed explanation about the compulsory insurance.

Ok Naboo, if I have 3rd class, and someone hits my car without insurance, you mean I need to settle the damage with him directly? It is not the job of my insurance company to claim all damages from him?

Yes, you need to settle the issue yourself. It only kicks in if your at fault and it pays for the other party not you.

Get a first class insurance and they pay you first and take care of the rest. Other perks include fire, theft, etc...

1st class is very cheap in Thailand. It's a no brainer really.

Friend of mine has 3rd party insurance on a bike.Someone crashed into his bike,so obvious he isn't at fault,he called the insurance company and representative came to the location and other party denied resposibillity.Police was called but no agreement so ended up at the police station. All together took maybe 4 hours and insurrance guy arranged everything untill the end.

Did they also collect the payment from the other party and paid it to your friend ?

My friend picked up the cheque the very next day at the other party's insurance office.

  8. Thanks. Any idea of price range?

Same price range as the others,no idea what the current rates are.All new bikes and big range to choose from from a mio to a pcx.English guy in business for the past 15 years at the same location.Rents cars also.

  9. Call Bob 081-8639045 or 038-412390 located on Soi Dianna Inn corner soi Bhuakoaw, but he will deliver to you.

Tell him eric sent you.........he will charge an extra giggle.gif

  10. Some items cost the same like 20 years ago, some are more expensive.

I do not care if things are more expensive, as long as they keep being MUCH MORE CHEAPER than in my own country. If something which in my country cost 10 euro and here 2 euro, I do not mind if it's 2,10 or 2,20...Look at the global picture. If Thailand were not so dam_n cheap, there would not be so many expats living here, pediod.Right?

I'm not so sure that most expaxts live here because the food is cheap.
  11. 1. flee the scene ( you read this on the forum all the time )

    2. Nothing at all.

    3. if you have 3rd party insurance, just call the number on your policy and wait.

    4. if they don't have money or rfuse to pay, insurance company will take care of it.

Insurance company will manage to get them in jail where they stay untill they find money, which usually happens in the next few hours coincidental.

So, for number 4, is this for 3rd class too? Will I get paid for the repair right away or until the insurance company able to get some money from the other party? Am I right to say the insurance company will pay for the repairs right away whether they are able to claim any money from the other party?

The way I understand it,but I have never had an accident while on 3rd party insurance,is that you get paid if you're in the right and they recover from the other party.

My experience in 20 or incidents with bikes hitting my cars, 1st class Insurance tries to get 10-20k baht from the bike rider and then let them go. Most Insurance companies do not want to spend 50k on court cases usually not giving them any money anyway

3rd party does not cover you in any way

Then they must be telling porkies in their policy.

  14. you can also sneak around the city by that route: Comig from Hua Hin on Rama II ride down until turn right into Suksawad there on straight down towards Pharpadaeng take a ferry or the Bhumibhol I bridge to cross the river (bikes normally not allowed). Ridestrough Pharpadeang and soon you will hit Sukhumvit in Samrong area. From there on you can ride straight down the old Sukhumvit trough Samut Prakarn then soon its Chonburi -> Pattaya

    Have a good one smile.png

I have yet to find that dam_n ferry! One of these days I must give it a try!

I took it once about 8 years ago,and believe it or not, I still have nightmares from it standing with a 350 kg bike which is fully loaded on the ramp when the ferry leaves and there isn't anything but water below you.Remind you that the ramp must be at about 45 degrees and a 2km dirt road is leading to it.
