  1. To answer your question, the iPhone 4 can be jailbroken and unlocked very easily (as long as you have not "updated" to 5.1). Any of the shops in Kad San Keow can do it. Try the 1st on the left on the lower floor when you come in from main road.

Airport Plaza also has many on the 3rd floor.

Then go to DTAC shop, or similar, 10 metres away, for a micro-SIM, either pay as you go, or get contract, wharever is your preference, but decide first if you want internet access using 3G, or rely on the free WiFi that is usually somewhere.

After the jailbreak and unlock do not accept any offer from Apple to update your operating system until the jailbreak for the new operating system is released, otherwise you will lose your unlock.

    Regards,

Mr Felipesed, kop koon krup for your input very much...I know right where you speak of outside of Tops and yes I just notice I have OS 5.1 but now I am in the process of setting my iphone/itunes to it's original setting and then follow your simple yet easy to follow instructions....knowing my thinkness with all thing tech I'm pretty sure I will f.something up but that I blame on my motorbike accident last June where my head bounce off the pavement in my 700B helmet

And B.Bill...oh following your post made my head numb but I get your point....Is that like the guy working out, grunting with 40kgs on the bench presswink.png

Thanks for the help all....Since I was asking a question I thought I would express my fondess for Podcasts thus opening 3% of my mind to tech....now if I could just learn more than 6 Thai words, lol baby stepswai.gif

  2. I feel your pain but I don't feel there is any relevence to Chiang Mai! Please move to a more suitable forum. cool.pngwai.gif

Really? wow...I see people ask questions for all kinds of stuff while they live here in Chiang Mai on this forum...relevence, really? Ok I get it, one of the posters here that has nothing to add but some stupid smarta$$ answersad.png

  3. It's true, I'm only 46 but I am finding myself a bit thick and scared of what seems like "everyday technolgy" many of us use in the world today.

I remeber 15 or so years ago trying to explain the web to my father and he wanted no part of it then, now at 70 he's on facebook or some other site back in America looking for love. My thought then was his love of guns and being able to find anything. This got me thinking about change or adapting to our new world, as it seems I feel more comfortable in things that aren't so new.

One example I have is Apple: In 2006, I purchased an ipod and figured out how to download my cds but until the past few months I had never purchased music online because I was more intimidated because I really not know what I was doing since I added my music CDs 6 years ago. In fact, I have started to use itunes to download podcasts for free because I like to listen to Seattle Sports Radio when I exercise (mainly anything University of Washington but any of my locals teams back in Seattle). My point? I hadn't done this mainly due to fear. Fear as in, oh man I'm thick and learning this new stuff intimidates the hell out of me and was wondering if many people out there were like me when it comes to routers, wireless internet at home, programming the TV remote?

In 2012 my world has been opened up to podcasts but now I have a new problem and was hoping someone could answer a iphone question for me since I have done a few searchs here on TV and even google without any luck. So before I ask my technology question let me share how much I enjoy listening to podcasts and why. Since we all live here in Thailand, I suggest giving your local (back home) radio stations a try so you can enjoy some flavor from back home here in Thailand. As I said, at 46 I seem thick compared to before and am having trouble finding an answer to my iphone 4 question, not 4S, but wanted to share my new found enjoyment while trying to open a dialogue for those that share my increasing uneasyness with technology.

Since I dropped my old unlocked iphone in the waterfall last fall I have been using my house phone because I purchased my buddies iphone 4 when I went home to America during Christmas. He bought the new 4S and since his iphone 4 was less than 6 months old he gave to me but it used to be on a AT&T contract, although he just transfer the contract to his new iphone 4S...so my question is this? Has anyone had their iphone 4 unlocked here in Chiang Mai and where? Also the SIM card is not the same as my older iphone as it looks to be about half the size. I love the iphone and use for my music and photos but for the past 3 months I have no idea what to do or when and if I can use my iphone 4 as an actual phone again? Thank you in advance, John

  4. OP: I was walking out of California Wow at the Airport Plaza @ 10:30am and the sound was the first thing to alert me?... "man that sounds like an American Fighter" ok my years (1st Gulf War Vet) on a USAFBase in late 80s helped where we had F-16's but when I saw the jet I was pretty sure it was a Falcon/F-16. The F-15 is a Navy jet and larger....think movie "Top Gun"....pretty sure it was an USAF made fighter and I doubted it was F-18...think Blue Angels in USA in the past...

Likely F-16...less expensive, less advanced, air to air fighter and can assist ground troops or close air support...F-16 is a hell of a jet but its as old as the Space Shuttle Program or near

    just my 2 cents...

The F16 is still a front line fighter in many Air Forces even though it is old tech'. The Dutch do fab' routines with them at European Airshows every year. BTW the Aircraft used in 'Top Gun' were F14 Tomcats. The F15 is an Airforce jet and the F18 is a Navy jet.

Ok I know I'm only 46 but I just knew I was going to get something wrong...you are so right the F-14 and 15 look alot alike but Top Gun was for sure a F-14 ....my bad, I do know the 15 is an AF jet but I'm getting thick in my mid 40's

and OP, you are so right....hearing an F-16 take off 1000's of times....that was the sound that came to mind too but for the past 20 years I have mainly heard only the Blue Angels screem across the skyline late summers in Seattle for the boat races yearly...maybe the Angels aren't even using the 18's anymore.

What I thought was kinda funny was airshow not come to mind when I hear the thunder...my first thought was possibly some joint Thai/US show of force after N. Korea thingy. I'm glad it is an airshow but I have to admit once I realized it was likely an F-16 screem across the sky I was kinda proud seeing all so many Thai's looking up...wow...while I walk to my manly motorbike, not

And yes the F-16 is used by many countries and is a real work horse...kinda like the F-4 of years ago as they finally retired the 4 while I was in the AF. And most of the jets have an ABCDE...version as the technology goes up....I think I remember an F-15E in 1990 but my memory is fading as I have seen Top Gun like 20 times and I forgot it was a F-14...ok sorry I'm rambling now

Glad someone asked because I was curious if my ears were right? As I am learning in my 40s I can trust my ears more than my eyes ;) PS my American proud was not due to being able to show force but being proud the jet was likely made in America!

  6. Try Imm Eco Resort and they have a great pool and internet...about 1km East NE of Night Baz. Can always push the 2 twin together unless you get a room with a bunkbed :whistling:

My apartment, after 1 night I had to upgrade the bed so I bought a Belgium made Matress for 5k baht...so I can sleep....great investment

  7. I have been stopped by the police a few times and had an accident, my American DL is fine and I have been here 10 months. But Thai driver's are, in general, VERY BAD so beware because you can crash doing nothing wrong because some moron has no idea how to drive or brain.

A couple things I will take from Thailand....road rash, motorbike burn (from a guy that parked directly behind me because he has no brain) and the fact that American driver's aren't so bad.

Bikky is the place you are looking for and I have rented from more than one place. I would suggest buying a 600-800 baht helmet which probbaly wouldn't be legal in US but better and larger than the ones places Bikky give out with rental plus Bikky keeps a lock and chain under my sear although I never used because I usually only park in very public places so I feel my bike is safe. my 2 cents;-) and that's about 2 cents more than 80% of the drivers here

  8. check out Huaykaew Residence and the location is good being next to KSK (the old shopping mall). They have 5 building and a few different options. I ahve lived here since Feb and they have most everything but the internet is NOT great...

    http://www.panoramio.com/photo/44959795

For the prices it is a pretty good deal, last year I stayed in a plush place about the same size as my furnished studio but also paid 20k per month because I was here short term...but price vs value I would much prefer Huaykaew....my real only bitch was the NOT GREAT high speed internet I pay 500B for...if you are on a budget which sounds like you are you may want to check it out as they have nice office people in front open until 7pm.

I wrote a longer reply but it didn't post....and I just type and post : memo to the internet typo spelling grammer police on this site

  9. walking is a great core builder and the back really likes and I would suggest doing this said walking in a large pool and see how you feel a couple months later, assuming you were to do this 3-4 times a week. Few good pools for this around CM, may as well give it a shot.

At nearing 46 with back pain in my first disk walking makes me much happier and my back feels like I'm 30 and not 46, just my 2 cents...and I dropped 30 kgs so my mission is nearly complrte why I moved here in February...H2O cheers

  10. I can only speak of the zoo because I went on the Queen's b-day for the 1st time with a gal friend but don't waste your money. Maybe I am spoiled being from Seattle and seeing basically great Zoo's in the USA but I was like "where are all the animals hiding, this is a zoo where the hell are the animals?"

Just my 2 cents but I was not impressed at all with the CM Zoo but I did find it rather funny many Thai's seemed more interested in taking my picture than the few animals I did happen to see. I love CM but the zoo wasn't even close to good the day I visited anyway....and thank god I rode the tram thing, walking would of sucked unless I wanted major exercise.

  11. Imm Eco Resort or Huey Kaew Residense near KSK shopping mall. I have done both but short 2 month stay the Imm Eco has a great pool and free wifi...long-term Huey Kaew would work if upgrade to what they call high speed web with grocery and shoppimng next door. googgle both and look what you find.

  12. i'm 100% it doesn't. it's a business, not a charity.

I just hate the Myanmar immigration official refusing to take my 10 USD and asking for 500 THB instead, even saying that they've now changed the rules.

I have done 4 trips every 90 days the past year and just hand a crispt $10 with my passport each time and smile and not once have they asked for 500 baht...although I have in my pocket in case and I last did a visa run a week ago.

anyway the best way to do it is to go to arcade bus station and there is this one quite big company, green coloured, always have people cueing.

they have a bus that's half vip seats and half normal. return ticket on vip seat is 600 or 650thb and the seats are very nice, big enough and comfortable. highly recommended.

Yes that's like the way I've been doing it (Green bus company).

Though I've been looking for a non-air-conditioned bus to Mae Sai (or Chiang Rai at which I could change bus to Mae Sai) as I like the fresh air and scenery of northern Thailand and the weather is not hot, actually often as cool as the air-conditioning inside the bus! So what non-air-conditioned bus options are there and how can they be caught?

And on The Thailand side they have nice made t-shirts if you walk on either side of the main street

  13. Hopefully Husky Stadium in Seattle with a 4th qtr comeback witll have some roasted Duck in the last game played in HS, fingers crossed. The ole gal is getting a 250M facelift and the University of Nike aka zeros last won the Rose Bowl in 1917....ouch, double ouch....Go daWgs!

  14. Wednesday is volunteer day at Care dogs.org and I really enjoyed because I love dogs until I crashed my motorbike. They are not easy to find and south of CM but if you love animals like me this is just one.

Search this site (thaivisa) because I did an event for kids and painted their face and it was really fun up North. And sad because I could see the pain in the childrens face with no mom or dad but seeing them smile was so rewarding even if for a day or 2 only.

Their is an orphanage on the Saturday market road just south of the moat that you can inquire if someone knows the name, lil help please but be patient because you may need to contact their office in BKK...

PS I suck at typing and internet: attn: typo spelling patrol ;-)

  15. I used to volunteer at Care for Dogs in Hang Dong and if I remember they may be able to help you. care for dogs.org and if I remember that have cats from time 2 time but they probably know of a cat or kitten that needs a home. check their website or call, they are nice. kop koon krup

  16. haha I would say I am an average American guy downunder. With this said, after 9 or so months here I had to buy new underwear and they feel fine but a bit snug downstairs for my taste. My boys feel a bit crapped to say the least. However, all is good because I bought a giant supply of TP today at Tesco and have not had to try the sprayer thingy because I'm sure I would do myself harm.

  17. Stan:

There is a place called the Eco Resort about 1km East of the River and night Bazzaar. They have a great pool (and large) and for guests they have internet so maybe for the approx 100 baht/ for the pool a guest can use maybe you can ask for a username /password card they give people that stay at the place. Just ask the front desk they are nice and speak English well. The place used to be called the Imn Eco and changed the name to Eco Resort in the last year but I stayed twice for 2 weeks looking for an apartment and it was great in the past year and a half.

Loved the pool and the internet was good and you could use at the pool, See Link and pool: http://www.ecoresortchiangmai.com/

I suck at typing and posting, hope this helps.

  18. Today was my final day at FT and I wrote a note to the manager lady thanks for the 2 months and explained a week ago I buy a 3 month membership at Cali Wow that starts Nov. 1

I also suggested gym E. and even pointed ot a website.... and I told them the motorcycle parking is very bad on the 2nd fl. and the wather that gathers smells like the toilet and they could service the equipment a tad bit better but overall I thanked her and the satff their is really nice.

I'm out....oh I not wear shirt outside sometimes because I like to tan and run/walk...is that really that bad or rude? I do take shirt in hand to wear imside if I get some water or something or have soup or eat.

  19. I don't eat there but I recall not being to avoid him at Tops or around the old mall so very well could be him. I figured he would be bogarding the food or prune juice station. talking surfing stocks and whater I try and tune out when when he clains to have cassh like him says. maybe he tips well

Do he wear hats alot? anytime I see im he has some sort of hat on, could be hemp hats if the sane guy. He a true piece of work no doubt, too bad he fried all those good brain cells bad in the day
