I'll be very interested to see what occurs with this pilot project. I swim most days (and it is a major reason why I'm here) and have for 20 years off and on. I have to say that on Mae Nam beach I have only seen jelly fish a handful of times, and have never been stung.

I also question the timing. According to all the locals I talk with, the jelly fish are only really prevalent during the rainy season (Oct-Dec). Perhaps in Lamai/south of the island the season for them is a bit different? Different currents at different times/locations of the year? Anybody have an answer for this?

Looking forward to any data received!

    Off to the beach!

Box jelly fish are on Samui all year round. They get the box jelly fish confused with the Portuguese man'o'war. Unbelievable. Hope that this is just a case of bad reporting.

I know that is against our western sensibilities to pay more but a little bit more wouldn't be unreasonable   Let's not forget Thai people rarely have the chance to travel overseas as us westerners do.

The filthy rich Thais in their Benz pay also the same rate as the 'poor' Thai, how does that make sense?
Thai middle class is on the rise, dual pricing doesn't make sense, but it seems state sponsored in Thailand. When will they wake up and smell the coffee?

  3. Cepends on what you're looking for, you may want to try one of the marble stone places, they cut our marble stone plaques for the temple urn areas.
There should be one near to where ever you live. If you live on the mainland, there should be no need to order on Samui or Phangan, spelling mistakes are bound to be made tho, check and double check and when mistakes are made, be prepared to pay at elast something again, although it wasn't of your doing

  4. Sorry Jimmy, that will be Hat Yai Malay service, and they do use the Raja service indeed.
Toilet onboard, reclining seats (well, on one bus) takes 6 hours from Don Sak to Hat Yai bus station or other way around. I though it was comforatble enough, although seating space is a bit on the small side for a Westerner. On both trips to/from, the bus was not crowded so I could use two seats easily.

I bought my ticket at the big station at the entrance of Nathon, coming from Maenam but you can buy tickets at the bus station in Nathon (the road to the Government hopsital, right hand side, or same road where immigration is, further downm the road, opposite side of road). Bus left bus terminal at 7.30am for the 8am ferry. There are two buses per day.

  5. This can be a big event since X Terra is like the brand name Ironman is for triathlons, X Terra is the same for off road triathlons. Start at Bophud beach

    So far there will be two distances to choose from;
X Terra Samui, Off Road Triathlon 25th September 2016 on Bophud beach
Sprint distance: 750m swim, 15km MTB, 6km trail running
Standard distance: 1.5km swim, 35km MTB, 10 km trail running

  6. Whilst you're at it, can you deposit some money into my bank account as well, as I'm struggling to pay for the health care premium of me and my family.

    Nice perspective..

So you think it's ok for all those people that visit and live in Thailand to have no health insurance? If they want to save money on that, why don't they deal with the fall out as a consequence?

For me it's a indeed a struggle to pay the insurance premium every three months, at the moment. I still consider this to be important though and keep paying these bills and keep taking out the insurance each year, to not be in a situation as this person and plenty of people before him. Sorry for not feeling sorry if I don't feel compassionate for people who think they can get a free ride here.

I rather not have to ask my family to bail me out. It's a choice I made, a very long time ago, when I decided to come and live in Thailand.
