This is a tropical country of Thailand and people have traditionally going around shirtless! So, naturally I have been brought up in this environment and shirtless is nothing strange. Maybe you should open your freaking eyes and look around in what freaking country you live in right now??? See any snow?
This is also about freaking BK and not fine dining or in an aircraft, so your comparison is moot. Nobody is conducting any "official business" at a freaking BK joint.
And what the
xxxxxxhell does my parent's has to do anything with this?I had parents as much as you had one.
Traditional Thai style is to always wear a shirt. Thais frown upon young Thai boys who run around and drive motorbikes w/o shirts.

So how did it end?

With previous accidents, bodies have been found far away from the point where the person was last seen.

Went to eat at Zen Japanese restaurant yesterday. Walked in shortly before 6pm with my family and it was empty, prompting me to think that they continue where they left off at Big C.
First glance at the menu showed rather high prices. Two condiments at the table were missing and 3 meals we ordered were not available. One wrong dish was brought to the table and exchanged for the correct plate.
A promotion for AIS users was activated by phone but the restaurant could not find the confirmation by AIS.
When it came to paying, it turns out that debit cards (your 'normal' ATM card) are not accepted only credit cards or cash.
All in all a very overpriced and mediocre meal. Our conclusion; we tried once and won't go back anymore. Horrible service.
Otooya one floor up we get better tasting food at a much favorable price.
My fave Japanese place on Samui is still Kobori in Maenam. Authentic and very tasty.

That's the best ever, go back to where you came from if you don't like it, as if we have to swallow everything that goes on in a location where you choose to live!
Sense of superiority? Did you read all the responses of the OP at all. What comes to mind is; Look who's talking.

The whole idea about a forum like TV is that you get up to date first hand knowledge, right?
Regarding Zazen, it's being relocated, to open soon(-ish).

What baffles me is that another permit seems to have been issued to build more of the same. Amazing Thailand.

Wilcopops, time to start reviewing your previous statements. It's also through Lisa that I heard of serious skepticism of Jamie's finding. Thanks for clarifying.
So can we now agree that all current evidence suggests that vinegar is the way to go?

Samuijimmy, these plants may work on some stings but I have seen the results if these plants being used on a person being stung by box jelly on Samui and the result was devastating.
Above is a carybdeid morbakka, just one of many different box jelly fish around in Thai waters. They are not red, if at all, blue-ish.

Where do you live Wilcopops? Wet season start in November around the Gulf islands. I have been living on Samui for the last 15 years and August and September are not wet season here. October maybe, November definitely (with exceptions to the rule everywhere).
The statement that the box jelly fish is meant to end in October comes from whom? The local Phangan authorities?
We'll see if protocols will be changed, once the researchers all agree to the same, which is likely not to happen too soon. Jamie's research has not convinced all other researchers so unfortunately it could be a while before anything changes, if at all. It looks like more testing will be needed to convince other research teams.
Nobody commented in those threads as Wilcopops, so I have no idea what you commented.

If there would be a season in the Gulf of Thailand, it would be around October through January, indeed the monsoon period for the Gulf.
I stand corrected to the statement that you mentioned. Current evidence argues that vinegar may not be the correct way of action, but all current protocols still advise to use vinegar.
-
Research only states that already triggered stingers are apparently intensified by 60%. All non active stingers are still being neutralized. The use of fresh water can be fatal since all stingers are actived at the same time and salt water has no effect at all.

There is no season in Thailand, encounters have been logged all year round.
Wilcopops, the only thing that I and many others now as well have been saying is that the current protocol is using vinegar. That is true! I don't know why you keep repeating that my statements are not true.
The new research has not been proven and has not been accepted. Until the new research has been accepted as being correct, no protocols will be adjusted. Up till now not many cases are known of people dying when vinegar was applied.
There's a Thai work group who has been active on the Gulf islands since a few years, nobody wants to listen to them and now with a fatal accident at hands, all of a sudden people with no clue (with all due respect) in the local governments start to shout things and want immediate action. Why didn't they listen when safety plans were handed to them?

Any results of this new research have not filtered through and changed the vinegar station systems and protocols. Among the specialists there's a lot of discussion going on about what the right treatment is. Currently, vinegar is still being advised. The new research seems to be controversial at the moment.
Do you have proof that protocols have changed in Queensland and other territories in Australia?
Just for you information, your link doesn't open at the current location I'm at.

Regarding the vinegar vs water treatment, the use of vinegar doesn't kill people/victims of box jelly sting; vinegar will dis-arm the majority of the venomous stinging cells at the very least. If it is applied soon enough, the tentacle can then be quickly removed. Sea water does nothing except maybe loosen the tentacle’s grip on the skin. While the tentacle is in contact with the skin the cells keep firing like a slow release system. When the tentacle first makes contact it does a lot of firing, then it slows down but keeps going. If touched by a hand or object or fresh water at this point, it’s like a booby trap and lets fire with a massive one-off explosion. Vinegar is known to do a complete disarmament of un-fired cells - perhaps this at least makes the odds of survival greater.
All the current evidence suggests that vinegar is the right thing to do. Victims seem to not die when vinegar is applied. Vinegar station systems and protocols are still being used in Queensland, WA and NT (tropical north Australia).

Who says local Samuians don't see it for it is? My father in law used to be daytime song thaew driver and there were massive protests a few years back, against issuing more metered taxi licenses, all to no avail. eventually he sold his song thaew and is renting out the license.
So licences are issued for use in a certain geographical area? I understood this to be the case for many years but was told not too long back that while Samui does issue licences, a licence issued from anywhere in Thailand is fine although you need to register as operating on Samui.
Why bother than having signs stating that the max parking time is 15 minutes?
BKK Air usually has things rather well organized, this doesn't somehow make sense and staff seem to make the impression that it may not be a BKK Air sanctioned action. Although the latter seems rather unlikely. Who knows.

Not sure on that, I would need to follow up.

What kind of house book are you referring to?

Cancel the license of any Taxi driver in the country that does not use the meter properly, take off the road any taxi displaying signage that extra fees must be paid (except in case of tollway fees).
Up until now, the taxis on samui have been more powerful than any of the so called authorities. Let us see if that has changed now. Sure hope so. One can always hold out hope that things can improve on samui. The thought sometimes defies the imagination. Samui. The land of no progress. Samui may be the least progressive place on earth.
My guess is that unless you have a soldier ride with you, you are still very likely to be scammed...
Most of the tourists arriving at the airport are blissfully unaware of TV, and the history of taxi problems. The last thing they want is to get into a dispute on their first day on holiday and the charges are not astronomic when converting to EUR, or USD.
Only those with local knowledge object, it's no wonder they have pushed their luck for so long.
What is happening now at arrivals is also ridiculous, mini vans pay to be able to 'stand by', and block all the short, 15 minute, parking spaces at arrivals, even parking double. Sometimes parking spots are available but are blocked by double parked mini vans. Not to forget the white Toyota 'normal' cars that double park and usually belong to Korean entrepreneurs.
Whenever I mention this to the parking guy or local BKK Air staff, they agree it's not right but can't change anything. Last time I was asked to complain with BKK Air via their website by BKK Air staff. There's nothing the ground staff can do, someone is pulling the strings and making extra money there.
These mini vans are not waiting in line/at the same place with the other mini vans and airport taxi services, located in-between arrivals and departures.

A point to consider - unless I am mistaken not many of the drivers own the vehicle - they have to pay a fixed amount to their generous employer before they take the vehicle out each day.
Pity the driver - the poor sod takes all the flack from us while the real low-life scum is faceless and nameless...
I agree with Smokie - more people would use them if the fares were realistic.
Many drivers are not Samui locals. It's a business they get into with the promise of high returns supposedly. As you said the real culprit remains faceless.
Nevertheless they are a tool in an illegal operation / action, so sure they get the flak. I am sure they get into the business with eyes wide open.
Bottom line greed & Laziness.
Couldn't agree more on both points....your average Samui taxi driver wants to sit around relaxing in the shade all day and do no more than a couple of runs around town maybe making 1k Baht a day it seems.
Its a racket really....and criminal activity....I'm surprised so few Samui residents don't see it for what it truly is...but familiarity bred contempt a long time ago and most prefer to drive their own vehicles around drunk at night with associated risks rather than pay the prices.
Its understandable but a vicious circle.
