  1. Chinese government is controlling the number of tour groups traveling abroad due to slump in their economy. yes tours all need government approval before traveling abroad.
  2. that’s not true, I’ve book rides where it doesn’t go on tolls but driver advise it would be faster - of course there would be additional toll fees as explained by the driver. I took the toll. Ride apps doesn’t always go fastest route. I’ve been driving here for over 30 years, gps maps aren’t always the most accurate. Majority times ride hailing drivers don’t try to scam passengers as the price is already fixed when you book it regardless of road you take. They just want to get passenger to their destination as fast as possible so they can get more jobs. In this case, the driver explained to the tourist, most likely it was a language barrier.
  3. I doubt he is easily shocked. As a seasoned businessmen, he has to deal with a lot of different people - some very corrupted. It’s all a ruse to make it look like he is checking up on things and making changes, in reality let the issue pass a couple months later it will be same same. At least he is being proactive though
  4. The only excessive thing is him making the video and complaining. He is a YouTuber and actually very popular to Thais. He grew up in Thailand and is well aware of tourist prices charged to foreigners actually. But again, it wasn’t even a rip off price. So for him to film it for the sake of his video and getting views he should be condemn, he could have walked away - but then there would be no video if he simply walk away.
  5. As I recall, he is wanted by Thailand but there never was a request to interpol to arrest him.
  6. Dos they also spend millions to commission a study on this idiotic idea?
  7. plastic recycling is not a hoax. I am in the industry and have used recycled plastic for a few years due to demand of European customers and changes in European laws. The article states recycle plastic cost 40 baht / kilo. It actually costs less than 20 baht / kilo. Article you posted points out problems which are due to no facilities being set up in the past. Nowadays tech and facilities are there to make recycling plastic a reality that is not expensive and tedious. In countries like Taiwan, Japan, and Korea a large percentage of trash are recycled because it’s sorted very well and there are strict laws regarding to trash disposal. So it all comes down to regulation and habit.
  8. Central Embassy - 10 minute walk or take a motorcycle. Free 2 hours, additional hours are only 20-30 baht.
  9. If you want the easy way, reach out to the lawyer and talk it over nicely. Tell him you removed the review and let’s end this on a good note. If you want the unfortunate hard way and got money. Lawyer up and post your experience on Thai social media forums to pressure the lawyer. Of course you can’t mentioned the lawyer name. At least get the public on your side first, nowadays public opinions can sway people to drop cases if it goes viral. And the lawyer can’t sue everyone. But since you don’t have photographic evidence it’s hard to sway the public, I suggest you avoid this route unless talking it over fails.
  10. “There is no real historical or cultural significance as to why the statue depicts a man fighting a shark, other than it was the wish of Mr Wiboon” money grab again
  11. They have all the laws they need, just the people not enforcing it from top down. It’s a no brainer, money talks. Increase fines and prison sentences.
  12. Thailand won the competition for college students held on campus at Harbin Engineering University. They won first and third place. The picture you posted is the from the main event Harbin International Ice Sculpture Competition.
  13. Same for taxi and tuk tuk drivers that block one lane around nana area on Sukhumvit, and in front of platinum mall on Petchburi.
  14. This girl had done the same thing in the past. It’s just to get views for her videos. Thailand should just ban her for damaging Thailands image, just like what China does to foreigners that post similar videos.
  15. Sore losers…. Rice from other countries have its distinct taste and texture
  16. Wealthy Chinese are still traveling in numbers, it’s the group tours that are down. This is due to bad economy, and Chinese government approving less group travels aboard.
  17. The movie is made by Chinese which talks about kidnapping in countries bordering Thailand. Thailand doesn’t have the spine to make a big deal with China regarding the movie. Instead it continues to suck up to the Chinese. If this was the other way around, Thailand making a movie negatively portraying China, China would have told Thailand to censor the movie or face consequences.
  18. I’ve been there, it’s pretty nice right now and almost world class. But the problem lies with upkeep and they need better translation in English. Upkeep and maintenance had always been the problem. Location is too far too
  19. Thai embassy in many countries are always on holiday and calls go direct to voice recordings. My wife tried calling one in Seoul before and couldn’t reach anyone when she wanted to ask some questions. She had to resort to email and it took couple of days for them to reply also.
  20. Airport in Taiwan has a lot of sniffer dogs. There was a very high chance they would have caught the smuggler exiting. I read the smuggler was fined heavily in Taiwan.
  21. Blank guns were sold on lazada, they have since banned it and ban the search of “gun”. But you can still search terms like toy gun and water gun.
  22. Special Ops team is not located in city center. Given how bad traffic is during rush hour, they wouldn’t have made it to the scene fast unless by helicopter. It’s up to police to make the arrests, which is what happen in this cases police had to search floor by floor. And they were on the scene within 15 minutes. Keeping people safe and evacuating is just as important. Rescue takes time, and yes it feels like forever if you are in the middle of the incident. From what I read online, Paragon security and many staff were well prepared for the scenario. They were trained to close doors and keep visitors safe in the event of a situation like this. Since Royal Thai Police headquarters is nearby, you would imagine they would / should a tactical unit stationed there at all times.
  23. Nowadays it’s not just tourist, locals complain about the problem too. It got worse due to influx of tourist in the past 10 years, taxis rather take tourist than Thais. But this problem is usually isolated to down town Bangkok, and tourist areas.
  24. Authorities only act when it becomes viral and they have to save face again
  25. Useless to report to FB, you are better off reporting to cyber police task force 1599. gather all your evidence and other store sellers account of this Fb being a scammer before submitting. If you have too little evidence, cyber police could care less. posting on thai Facebook blacklist / scam pages helps also.
