  1. You are getting a lot of good information here and a lot of bad information as well.

Your whereabouts while in Thailand is supposed to be reported on a TM 30 form within 24 hours of your arrival, and when you change overnight locations. The arrival card address does not count. If you are staying visa exempt on arrival and you will not be going to Immigration for an extension or any other reason (proof of residence etc...)you are unlikely to have any concern. If you stay at a hotel or guest house they do it for you and they have a streamlined online process. If you stay at a friend/GF they are responsible to do it. If you rent a condo/house it is the responsibility of the house/condo owner or house Master. If you have a lease, you are the House Master. If the owner does not report your arrival, when you turn up at Immigration for an extension or for any other reason, you will both be fined. Now, every immigration office has slightly different protocols and reporting requirements. (and they may change) They range from not requiring you to report, to reporting whenever you return to your residence after being away or even doing a border bounce, Jomtien Soi 5 only requires you to file a new TM 30 when you change your principal residence. So while I am here for a year on a METV-SETV with my one year lease I just use my initial TM30 report. It is quite quick and painless. I recommend you do it. Best of luck.

  2. The Thai lottery is ridiculous. 80 baht is the official ticket price but most vendors sell the tickets for considerably more, usually 100 baht. That said, in Canada (and I believe the US as well) half the gross total ticket sale revenue goes to prize money. In Thailand, I believe it is about 10%.

  3. Contrary to popular belief men are more likely to experience physical violence from a spouse that a woman. For various reasons men are less likely to report it and because of the relative size difference between men and women when women experience violence from there spouse they are far more likely to be seriously injured.

In Ontario Canada, 12 imperial ounces, 341 ml, is CAD$1 including all taxes - 12 packs are CAD$12 and 24 bottle cases are CAD$24, plus deposit of $.10 per bottle, which refunded upon return of the bottle.

Here in Thailand, they even short you on the contents of a bottle of beer, which is only 330 ml.

Hyperbole. The new Ontario government said they would bring back $1 (buck a beer) Maybe one or two companies did with an off-label el-cheapo brand.  That said, I understand your point. Singa is basically the same price as Molson Export, Canadian or Labatt Blue. In relative terms, beer in Thailand is extremely expensive.

Yesterday I got 5 stamps at the checkout but the cashier said my store card didn't scan.

So I went to the customer services counter to get a replacement and was told no more cards for foreigners but I could sign up again and use my phone number at the checkouts.

Anybody else had a similar experience?

Yes, I understood it to be no more cards for anyone. Told to use my phone number.

  6. Motion sensor lights with a bloody loud siren alarm along with razor wire atop the fence

sounds like the best suggestion. Any kind of weapon is definitely a last resort. Not sure if it

is true but I have read here on TV that shooting someone even during a home invasion will

lead to a murder/attempted murder charge. All that said if it comes down to it, better to

shoot and deal with the consequences than being killed yourself. Best of luck getting your

    security beefed up.

  7. Dude, you are young, mobile (work online) and successful. Try things here, if you like it great, if you tire of Thailand try somewhere else. No place is perfect. Life is a big adventure. Sample all the world has to offer.

  8. I am a regular at a food stall in Jomtien beach road market. I patronize Mr Boom

who makes pad Thai to order. I bring my reusable plastic container whenever I go. No

plastic throwaway container, no plastic utensils, no plastic bag to hold it all.

Both he and his assistant smile and both have commented, "very good" saves them

and makes me feel at least I am trying. I am happy they notice and know why I do it.

That said, it has yet to catch on.

  9. Your Uncle is quite correct. You never have to buy a new umbrella. Just stop by any restaurant

and pick up the one "you" left behind. The same goes for phone chargers. Whenever you check

into a hotel just ask the front desk for one. They always have a box of them that have been left

behind by other hotel patrons. As they say, reduce, reuse, recycle.
