  1. thanks for the quick reply scouse, you are a star!

i have just been looking around thaivisa and i read one post which said that the embassy actually have the affirmation letter already typed up and all you need to do is fill in the blanks. Is this true for the british embassy?

i don't intend on filling in the blanks but maybe others who read this would prefer to do that.

    cheers.

  2. Hi chaps,

On the affirmation of freedom to marry i was wondering what should i write about my monthly income because i am an agency worker my hours and pay are irregular. i was thinking of adding "approx ££££" or "up to ££££" but i don't want to tinker around with the sample format if possible.

also is it mandatory to add an employers letter to this? i can't get a letter from my employer at this time because i have finished my most recent contract and have not worked in the last month. I can ofcourse provide a bank statement but this shows different amounts every month.

I can't see it being a major problem but i want to be sure before i go to the embassy on friday.

one more thing what time do they accept the affirmations , i have read conflicting accounts on the days and times that they will allow you to do this.

    cheers :o

  3. hi chaps,

another crisis has happened! i still haven't recieved my passport from the thai consulate in liverpool and the phone number given on the website is just a recorded message ! there must be some emergency number, does anyone know it? i have only 3 working days before i fly out to bangkok.

is it possible for me to go to the consulate first thing monday morning in person and get the passport myself?

any help would be much appreciated.

    thankyou.

  4. I have sent 8 emails this week to the general visa enquiries and 2 of the senior staff at the embassy and so far have had no reply from them unlike mark who got a reply in 2 days ( didn't change anything but now you know where you stand, mate) I read on the goverment website that the ECM will review a complaint within 24 hours, well thats a load of old tosh because the ECM in Bangkok i have it on good authority is a lazy sod and he has a certain glorified ECO to do his dirty work for him...

I will give it untill next tuesday and then i'm going to book a ticket to bangkok, <deleted> it ! <deleted> em all!

    :o cheers

  5. Alright mark

I called the embassy this morning and spoke to a total scatterbrains of a thai woman, when i asked her for the name of the ECO she put the phone down on me! So i called again and this time i spoke to an older thai woman who was abit more helpful and she gave me the name of the ECM and that i should send an email stating my concerns over the refusal to the ECM. She said it would take 20 days for them to review it.

Well i'm not going to hold my breath on this one but i will keep sending emails and i will call again and try to find out the name of the ECO.

I wonder if its the same chap that refused your gf ???

  6. hi chaps,

First of all can i ask you all something? would you accept a refusal letter that is not even signed by the ECO ? I know they are trying to make a quicker service but i think they can spare the time to sign the letter.

Is this standard practice now ? :o

I will try to answer some of the questions, not much time to go through them all now.

Phil - we have been together for 3 years and engaged for almost 2 years now. I'm glad to say that we haven't so far had our relationship questioned. Everything on that front seems to be ok.

However my cover letter has been disregarded, they don't believe we intend to return to Thailand and marry otherwise why say she has no reason to return ? she does have property in Thailand and a very reasonable chance for a person with work experience as an accountant and a degree in business of finding employment.

All of the doubts the ECO had could have been sorted out with an interview ( i feel we paid enough to be granted one ) in which further evidence would have been provided. mostly verbal but she did apply for a goverment sector job recently and is waiting for the next available exam date.

cheers all. thanks for your support.

  7. I'm all for having another crack at it but my gf does not feel the same way at this moment. Its just too early for her to even consider going through all this again, she takes rejection very personally. i can't imagine why...

We may have been forced to play our hand and just apply for a settlement visa next time because the VV is a waste of our time, effort and money. We intend to marry in LOS in the next 4 months anyhow. Its not my ideal scenario because she has not met my family or friends or had a taste of life here in the North West of England. Yeah i know what you are thinking ! no signs of life here in a while!

First things first i will email the ECM and see if i get a response.

    cheers all :o

  8. i honestly can't say mate.

its like a lottery trying to get a visit visa to the uk.

i forgot to add before that me and my fiancee also told the embassy that we have been invited to become the godparents to my nephews baby daughter. Heres me thinking it would make a differance to these black hearts if i added such a personal commitment. looks like my whole family is going to have to wait to wet the babies head because of this refusal.

  9. hi gu22

the discrepancies mentioned in the letter can only refer to her previous application ( no interview this time) when she naively said to the ECO that 2 - 3 months would be enough for her first visit even though she had written on the application form 3 - 6 months. stupid thing to say and she now knows it. However like you say it does seem perverse to bring this up and for it to have any bearing on this application.

  10. Ok chaps here it is for you all to read and dissect. i have added notes were appropriate.

    VISIT for (period) 1 month

You have applied for an entry clearance to the uk as a visitor. However i am not satisfied you meet the requirements of paragraph 41 of the immigration rules and in particular that -

    * you are genuineley seeking entry to the uk as visitor for a limited period

    * you intend to leave the uk at the end of the period of visit

    * you do not intend to take employment in the uk

Because - you were previously refused a UK visa and have now re-applied. At the time of your previous application, you were invited to attend an interview to satisfy the ECO of your intentions.(no interview about her intentions this time the decision was made on the same day she applied)

Each and every application is considered on its own merits, ( THEY CONTRADICT THIS STATEMENT LATER IN THE LETTER) however i see no change in your circumstances on this occasion to warrant the issuance of a visa on this occasion.

I note you appear to be in modest, although respectable, employment here and in the same employment as when you previously applied for UK entry clearance. However you previously gave varying accounts as to how long you intend to stay in the uk, including a period of 6 months. As such, and owing to the varying discrepancies in your statements, i am not satisfied you are commited to your employment and that moreover your employment alone would encourage you to leave the UK at the end of your stay.

You are a woman who as yet to establish herself in terms of assets, or any serious career commitments. You have not shown that you have sufficiently strong family, social or economic ties to thailand to satisfy me that you intend to leave the UK on completion of your visa.

I therefore refuse your application ( dated but not signed)

Now lets go over a few things

Why have they dug up something she said at the previous application interview ? this totally contradicts what has been said about each case being considered on its own merits. If this is how they make decisions what chance have we got of ever getting a VV?

Our circumstances have changed considerably for one now i am in employment and have 4 times as much money as the previous application ( last time i was on a long holiday in thailand)

my gf has saved over 100,000 baht in 6 months, last time she only had 40,000 baht.

In my cover letter i clearly stated that we intend for her to visit my family for 1 month before we return to thailand to be married. then we will apply for a marriage visa so we don't want to ruin our chances of this by overstaying her VV.

Now you don't have to think outside the box to recognise if we are to be married that she will not have any career commitments in thailand because we will be starting a new life in the uk as husband and wife.

The last paragraph is so insulting! where do they come up with this jargon? No established social and economic status ? no family ties?

so if we get a letter from her parents explaining how close a family they are everything will be hunky dory? oh please !

OK i'm done for now, i will make a start on writing a letter to the embassy and my local MP for what good it will do.

    Cheers.

  11. We didn't make any complaint because you can't appeal against being refused a VV.

She was refused last time for an number reasons but the most ridiculous one was " bank statements show no uk transactions" DOH!

i guess its too much of a hassle for them to look at the stamps in my passport which proved i was in thailand on a double entry visa for the last 5 months.

  12. Some classics on here! had a laugh at some quotes. :o

    ALEXANDER (colin farrell)

    "Old man...we're in new worlds"

"By Zeus and all the gods...what makes you so much better than them? Better than you really are.In you and those like you IS THIS!!!

"What disturbs me most is not your lack of respect for my judgement. Its your contempt for a world far older than ours"

Damon wayans - some cheesy army film anyone know the name?

"i'll shove my foot so far up your ass that the sweat on my knee will quench your thirst"

PREDATOR is full of genius lines from all of the cast too many to mention but my faves are "YOU ONE UGLY MOTHERFUGGA" and "RUN GO GET TO THE CHOPPER!" as only Arnie could deliver them.

  13. My Fiancee has today apllied for a VV to england and she was very impressed with the new service, just like a bank she said. she should know having worked for several of the top banks in BKK. Last time she applied at the British Embassy she was treated like something you would wipe off your shoe.

She has been told to call VFS in 2 days while they check all the documents. Is it possible she could get the VV so soon without an interview? Bear in mind that she was refused before for lack of evidence to support her, however we have everything in order this time.

    Cheers.

  14. This Topic has brought back my first dodgy experience in LOS.

Some shady looking Thai guy greeted me as i was walking down Phra Athit rd in BKK and asked me where was i from. i told him Manchester in the UK, then he said "Is that close to Amsterdam?" :D

I didn't give him an answer to that and just said "why?"

"My Sister is going to Amsterdam to train as a nurse, are you married?" :D

    "Why?"

"You handsome man my Sister like you, come to my house" <deleted>!

I was tempted when i pictured his sister in a nice nurses uniform...

Thats were it ends though because i told him i had to meet my mates and was leaving for upcountry tomorrow.

Oh yeah that same first trip to LOS another Thai guy wanted me to buy his preteen daughter because he couldn't afford to feed her!

Find a happy place find a happy place find a happy place... :o
