Hello,
Are there any expat groups I can contact in Nong Khai? I looking for a decent home and have some furniture
I'm new to Nong Khai although I've been resident in Thailnd for many years. I've just returned to Thailand on October 7. I was resident in the south in Phuket and Songkhla province since may 2010. In the 90's I worked in Bangkok..
I'm an artist and paint acrylic and oil, sketch and an ex 14/19 light horse and 2 commando Co 1 RAR Australia Defense Force 1959-1966.
My email <removed>
Phone <removed>. Thanks for any advice. I have my 8 year old thai daughter April with me. She's a gifted child and has attended a private school for the last 9 months in Victoria

Recently shipping my personal goods including my own created paintings i was advised by a shipping agent that all art work must first be inspected and a charge of 4750 Bart is applicable for every 4 paintings, a Thai govt. order. Reason: to prevent the export of stolen art. I have 50 of my own and found a shipper with a fee of 3000 Baht. I was informed later that the Thai govt. Fee is a nominal fee of 200 Baht. It appears that shipping agents are creating their own price. Has anyone experienced this?

I believe you can do online 90 day report only up to 15 days before the due date.
Not so. I do mine 7 days before. On Saturday last I did mine an and got the approval 2am on Sunday morning.
I've been doing 90 day reports on line since 2016. I'm also a retired volunteer Immigation officer.

And what about shop houses and businesses that extend on to the footpath making people detour on to the street. Even putting chairs and railngs on the road to prevent parking!

I tend to ensure a snug fit around the nose. That is if you have the masks with the metal strip.
There is some demist wipes you could get in Australia thats stops the misting of your windscreen. I guess that would work if you can buy that here.
Other than that, yep it’s a pain in the butt.
But the mask with the metal strip does help a lot.
That's the problem if the mask fits too tight. My daughter sent mask that sits comfortably on the bridge but allows enough room below the nostrils and a Co2 exhaust on the front of the mask free of the face. It was used during the bush fires in Sydney

Thailand will be kissing the side of their Chinese Master's obedient ring.
Half the population are of Chinese ethnicitynd are the economic brains of the country. Provided Thailand remains democratic it has nothing to lose.

You don't know the half of it. As a volunteer.Immigration police officer over 5.years I heard many sad and tragic stories of men losing everything they invested, savings, retirement payouts on Thai women, stories I cannot repeat here but there are foolish or naive foreigners that fall in love with a "beautiful" lady never expecting things can go bad. There are some clever and coniving ladies out there

I've been 'moved' here many times. The first time in 1984 at 43 yo when a friend showed me around the hot spots of Bangkok. I resolved to make it my home then and managed finally to make it here in 2010 although visited and worked here through the 90's. Great country and people despite some occasional hickup. Now at 79 and still loving it.

Takes a farang company to sort stuff out.....????
Now all they have to do is sort out their local staff. Most frustrating for me is when excellent products are introduced and some months later they simply disappear. Asking the desk staff doesn't reveal anything except "if you can't see it we haven't got it"

Keeping your distance is the message constantly heard and read. Alcohol could bring people to forget that warning of close contact.
But I saw a new and innovative way of keeping your distance in Hat Yai the other day. While driving through the city streets I saw 500 metre line of people queuing up to get free bags of food each person with one arm outstretched to rest on the shoulders of the person in front. This was being supervised by local police and security hotel staff.
Presumably if only one of that lineup had the virus it would have been passed along to all. Clever thinking.

It will be interesting to see the road toll figures are since the ban on alcohol sales. No doubt they declined dramatically but sadly they'll get back normal no doubt after the ban is lifted.

No mention of the disease so what is it? Hoofvid20

The good ,(unintended)news here is hopefully a very much reduced road toll. Three hundred or more deaths occur every Songkran. Much more dangerous than Covid19.

Mmmm..a rush on booze. Profitable for somebody. Was this planned? Let's hope the winner of this bonanza doesn't have country wide stores:))

The Aussie dollar was over 30 Baht when I first came here in 2010.
When I first came here in 1992 it was struggling to make 20 baht/$1.00.Aust. No doubt it will rise again until the next covid19 appearance in 2026.

Yes, but I hope he has enough toilet paper hoarded at home for when the s#it hits the fan.
Being a Thai he would use the Bum Gun.

"This lot" he says with contempt while TAT is screaming for them to come back. This as the hotels put off staff and local businesses struggle that rely on the (great unwashed?) to survive because someone or something has disturbed him at a public place so now he's venting his displeasure.

Terrible for the officer if it gets worse. But more concerning is the number of road fatalities yesterday. Over 90 fatal accidents in one day and 3000 so far this year. It makes the Corona virus look like a walk in the park.

Depends on how far South you want to travel but I recommend Songkhla town. This is not Hat Yai. Good hotels drinking holes and an Irish bar/restaurant Buzzstop s great place run by an Irishman with a great sense of humour. If you happen to be there on 14 March he will celebrate St Patrick's day. Usually he provides the food and you pay only for the drinks. The best place in town to find out just what's happening.
And if you like swimming the main town beach Semila Beach is beautiful for swimming and virtually free of swimmers. But safe. The Songkhla Zoo is also worth a visit along with the large display of animals and it has a great swimming pool complex. Hat Yai, 35 km from Songkhla town is a big metropolis and has many interesting places to visit as it relies on many tourists that visit there from Malaysia. Sadao a border town 75 km from Songkhla can be an exciting town that many foreign travellers like to visit especially for the variety of Asean ladies that reside there before returning to Malaysia to work for 3 months. Bon voyage

The land of smiles? If you marry one of ours and no matter how long you live here, if she dies f* off. And I dare say he paid for her medical and funeral expenses. Poor guy. Very sad.

I bet the high fever was due to some loose talk that they would be arrested for illegally staying in Korea.
Looking for expat advice in Nong Khai

Yes so true. Not knowing Nong Khai I wouldn't know where to go. Yes many parents are proud of their kids, I have 5 and at 81 yo I'm lucky to have my 8 yo girl April Williams
My daughter was given a $7000 AUD scholarship to Yarralinda private school in Lilydale Victoria. The only student lucky enough to get it there She studies Thai English and mandarin. The reasons we came back to Thailand are manyfold, cost of living, including rent $380/ week bitterly cold winter, power and gas heating costs but most of all repeated lockdowns. Because of the lockdowns she had to study Thai and mandarin by zoom Sumittra private school Songkhla.
My eldest daughter also gifted with an IQ of 141 is married to professor at a Melbourne university. My 3rd daughter of 4 daughters is also clever and works for IMed Radiology on Melbourne. My 8 year old girl only started learning English from December 2019 and speaks as good as anyone born in Australia. She was born in Nong Khai. I'm sorry I returned to Australia and so relieved to get back. I understand your cynicism as I agree but in this case I'm proud to confirm she is gifted. Thanks for your answer
