but swimming in the pool is save, (sic) swimming in the sea is dangerous and i would not do it without some floating tool. Let this people sign that they know sea is dangerous

But not dangerous for experienced swimmers that live in countries where swimming at a beach is prevalent. I cannot imagine swimming in the ocean in Russia is common.

    You believe this story? Impossible.

I experienced this some years ago in a mini bus driving between Nakhon Sri Thamsrat and Sichon. I saw the driver's head dip forward and at first thought he was looking down at his feet for something but a few seconds later I realized he had nodded off. Fortunately I was seated in the row behind him so I able to grab his shoulder and he recovered his composure.  The bus was full of passengers.  Crowded spaces reduce the oxygen and I'm sure this is responsible for many similar accidents in Thailand.

  3. Having a Thai Child  now the subject of a Custody case by me, a Thai wife, legally married but now deceased, 4 years past, I was refused a Non "O" dependent vextension. because I do not have the child in my custody. I do have a current  extension based on Retirement. I also have two other Thai daughters, from a previous marriage. My question is despite a long period of residency in Thailand and Thai children born here in Thailand and two previous legal marriages  would I be forced to leave this country  if I could no longer apply for a retirement extension.  Does this also mean severing my relationship with my 6 year old daughter?

How obscene that these executives - and there must be dozens of them - beside their inflated salaries also are actually being paid extra allowances to attend meetings. Attending management meetings are part of the job description of top executives and thus already should be included in their salaries.

All of them sitting quietly nodding sagely without a murmur of discontent.

I think we can all see the signs that Thailand is going to really have it hard soon, and once those borrowers start being laid off as there's nobody to export too and the tourists are not coming or spending that debt is going to be near the 90% mark pretty quickly as the previous years they had reliable income streams

think we can all see the signs that Thailand is going to really have it hard soon.

All too true as can be seen by the increasing numbers of second hand car sales. But as many economists now agree a world recession is just around the corner and expected by 2020-2023. A leading financial news paper in Australia yesterday reported serious economic conditions are not far off.

From my understanding sooner or later they "who ever in AU" are informed, wasnt a smart move to get married, you surly can reply negative and of course if they catch you out eventualy they will be looking for back pay...

Might be in your best intrests to divorce, though there has been a lot written about this topic in the past, the guy did argue his case and eventualy his pension was restored, do you want to risk the stress and the hoops your going to need to jump through?

Never ever tell Centrelink you have a partner or that you are married. Not even a civil law partner. They will immediately deduct about $100 a fortnight from your pension or even more. Be careful too you don't slip up when asked quietly by an wilfare officer of you have a partner because as innocuos as it sounds it isn't. They'll pounce on you as quick as lightning.  An unfair aspect of this is the Social Welfare Department must consider a foreign woman can earn a wage equivalent to an Australian wife or partner or indeed if even if she may not be employed or employable.

Perhaps it is my cynicism that believes welfare front desk officers are just plain jealous of someone and some place is better off than they are.

  7. It would be adviseable to overnight at Nakhon Sri Thamarat. I often drive from Songkhla to NST as it is a relatively short drive. I know there is not much on offer in Ranot as I visit an American friend who lives there.

I once lived in NST and found its restaurants and shopping well catered for. One hotel I found reasonably priced is the Grand Hotel. If you want to try a very good Western food or Thai food there is a very good restaurant opposite the Grand Hotel. Good luck

  8. My 4 year old daughter born in Thailand to a Thai mother and me as an Australian citizen is, I am told, not eligible for free schooling as provided by govt schools. She is an Australian citizen by descent but I have not yet applied for Australian citizenship recognition.

Therefore I have been requested to pay a school fee of 7,600 Baht because she has a foreign father. Can anybody verify if this charge to attend school is correct? Thanks for any advice.

  9. There seems to be questions that need to be asked and responded to in this case. For instance; how can such a high profile alleged criminal be left unattended in a prison cell allowing him to hang himself? How did he hang himself if normal precautions such as the of removing belt, tie and loose clothing be taken? Why wasn't the prisoner kept in view by 24/7 CCTV surveillance in prison? Was he isolated from other prisoners? Was he interviewed by US authorities after arrest and guaranteed protection. Prior to arrest was the man under  surveillance in Phuket by Thai US agents?

Perhaps it is me that is naive but the story in the press, especially about the hanging just appears to lack something.

  10. It's not hard to hide here in Thailand......sone expats have been here for years....passports long expired....not running from the law.......they just keep a low profile and it seems it's not difficult at all.....likely similar in many western countries as well.

And there are those who do stay legally until, and unfortunately, suffer dementia as they get older and simply forget to renew their extension. I did help one person who had not been to immigration for several years by finding the whereabouts of his family in the US. Eventually they came to Thailand and took him home. He was not penalized for the overstay.
