  1. I got an order with vitamins via DHL a couple of days ago, it got though but there was a note from customs saying something in the line of you need to have a license to be able to import or they might confiscate the shipment. About 10-12 small bottles. I thought they took me for an importer but maybe there is some new law in the making. The shipment got through though.

  2. Girlfriend bought a dog at the market, some chiahuahua mix. A day or so later it vomited and had blood in the stool. Had Parvovirus. She took it to a small local vet clinic the first day, but the virus did not yet show on the tests. Not very impressed with that clinic. Vets tried to save it after but couldnt.

  3. "Customs would like to inform you that the import of medicine, drugs, food and supplementary products rqquires prior licensing from the food and drug administration, the ministry of health and other relevant laws. Act for the above the imported may be seized. If you have any questions contact at Food and Drug Bangkok post. "

Only vitamins and supplements, nothing remotely fishy. Anyone else get this ? I got a similar warning in Thai a year ago and since then ive sent smaller packages only, but still quite many per year. The package still got through though. Ive tried calling the phone nbr but they hung up on me straight away when i spoke english to them.....

I have a chronic disease and rely on these supps. This was by DHL, ive had stuff fedexed before without any issues so maybe ill have to try that. More expensive though. Buying in thailand would be very expensive for me.

  4. Bit too late i guess, but get him to a good vet. Parvo can be expensive to treat as the dog may need to stay at the clinic to be treated. 10 000 sounds like to much though. Depends on how long it needs to stay there. Three things you have to do to treat parvo, the dog need fluid, or will die of dehydration, the clinic will give it IV. The dog vomits up all food so need nutrition or it will die, the vet will give goatmilk or glucose i think. The dog also needs to be on an antibiotic because some bacteria associated with parvo will really mess up the stomach, and there will lots of blood in the feaces. Without it the dog will likely die. Even with treatment some dogs lose too much blood and die. Some animal hospitals do blood transfusions though.

  5. I went into California wow today with the intention of signing up for 3 months.

They had advertised a 4000 baht/3 month deal on their website but they wouldn't not honor it.

They tried to get me to pay nearly 7000 baht for the 3 months, which doesn't even make sense.

There's clearly Thai pricing and "Falang" pricing here.

It sucks because it's the closest gym to where I'm living.

Not about thai farang, they try to squeeze everybody who walks in for money.

What they told you is way too much for chiang mai, they try as they get a provision if they can charge you more. 4000 b for 3months is also expensive for WOW. People in Bangkok got the lifetime memebership for about 12 000 baht, i only managed to get a year in bangkok for 12000, all i needen then. A year shouldnt be more than 6 000 in Chiang Mai. Dont know if they still do lifetime. Their sales tecnique is nasty though.

Fist one seller talks to you, asks you how much you can budget for the gym, and gives you crazy prices. Then you keep saying no to everything, and the sales rep goes and talks to the manages, gives you a lower price, you say no again, repeat this for a while and you mignht get a decent price. They tend to get less and less friently though the more you say no, some people quite rude. And dont settle for the cheaper prices they offer if you get the deal where you only can train daytime and not evening, You can get as cheap and get everything if you are stubborn.

Once you start training, if they ever offer you a free session of Muay Thai fitness or whatever they have going, decline....After the session you have to sit again with the sales staff, and they try to sell sell sell. And the trainer will afterward try to sell to you every time he sees you at the gym

  6. Fine for me two days ago, been there a year and had a problem with the water only once or twice in that time. Never had the pleasure of visiting the ladies shower though. That some bstd turns of the sauna from time to time is more annoying for me.

  7. Chiang Mai Uni Small Animal Hospital on Canal Road. Very well priced and always seemed quite competent to me. Their english is sometimes not that good though. And usually there are a lot of people waiting. Still think its the best option around though if you dont mind to wait. What i like is that they dont seem to do a lot of unnecessary test and wont prescribe a bunch of meds that you dont need like some private vets might do.

  8. Took my dog from bangkok to chiang mai by train, pretty small dog though about 7kilos. Got to stay with us on the train in a crate.

    Only Thai Airways does.

If goes with cargo they calculate the volume weight:

    * Shih Tzu size about 800 baht

    * Eng. Bulldog size about 1,500 baht

    * Golden size about 2,500 baht

If goes as excess luggage the gross weight (dog + crate) counts. Don't know the prices, but it's a lot cheaper than cargo. Mini-dogs, less than 7 kilo's (including crate, if I'm not mistaken)can go in the cabin.

Best to fly the dog with the first flight in the morning or in the evening. Dog will go with the luggage. There is no special department for animals on those flights. During the day it can become quickly extremely hot in the crate while transporting the animal with all the luggage to or from the plane, and the dog can die of over-heating. Especially short-nosed dogs are prone to that, and it is not unknown that dogs have died during this fairly short trip when transported during the day.

For cargo you need to be at the cargo terminal at least 2 hours before flying. There is no reservation. You just have to show up. Best is to check when the earliest flight is going. During low season the first flight at 7am doesn't go. The next one is at 8am.

For keeping the anxiety level of the dog at a minimum, it is advise to have the dog crate-trained far before the flight, so it will feel safe and comfortable in there.

Another option may be, is to bring the dog yourself by mini-bus or car to BKK.

    I hope this helps. :)

  9. I seriously love this dish, but havent found a really good one so far in CM. Most good thai restaurants that ive been to dont have it. Peppermint cafe does, its ncie but a bit falangized...

  10. Tell your girlfriend to report and get it on air on the local village radio station, we have one here in the village, maybe you have too. Thats how we got back one of our dogs when it ran astray.

  11. Put my bike there 4-5 days no probs, locked it well. Parking attendant told me i could leave it there for several days no problem, just lock i t well....No fee. I doubt security nighttime is decent so yeah lock it...Last time i took a taxi i had to wait for one and a half hour for my taxi to appear at the 120 baht to downotwn counter, Big queue. Had to wait there longer than my flight took, so wont do that again.....

  12. I thought the food was very nice, and im rather picky. Looking at the pictures on facebook and considering the price i really wasnt expecting very much, looked a bit industrial on facebook, but most dishes were very flavorful. I never tried the pasta cooking section thought, it seemed to be unmanned when i was there so cant comment on that. Service dont really seem to be 100 percent yet, but i guess the place is new. Dont really care much about service anyway when its a buffet. Seemed like rather big selection of desserts too. Never really thought about the lighting:)
