  1. No illegal to just use tourist visas - you might be able to obtain three entries to start which with 30 days extensions could cover the first nine months and then obtain another in Laos for the last three months of your stay.

It isn't illegal to visit a country on a legal visa. That is stupid.

They could deny me a tourist visa after so many in a row, but never would it be "illegal"

I'm not working on the visa or anything.

  2. 4) Lower Sukhumvit after 2am.

Place is a zoo full of ladyboys, drug dealing africans, crazy old german sex tourists etc. Have a beer at one of the road side stalls if only for the weird ambiance.

Personally I don't reconmend it, I have had some close calls with drugged out twits wanting to go me.

    Check out China Town.

Well he wanted "adventurous and outside the norm"

Wouldn't be too adventurous if it was as safe as your Grandma's living room.

I've never had anyone have a go at me there. Most people are too preoccupied trying to bang hookers to bother fighting.

  3. Why do you need to move between cities?

You could get an Education Visa to study Muay Thai, but the school has to be recognized. If you are in Europe and get a one year visa then it does not matter if you give up after 4 weeks the visa is valid for one year, but you would have to do border runs every 90 days, and just before it expires you do another quick run and get 15 months instead of 12 months in total.

    For 2 reasons basically.

    1) I run a Muay Thai website and want to write and cover about as many gyms as possible.

    2) I get bored of the same place after a while. There are some great gyms in places like Burriam like Kiatmoo9, but I don't want to spend 1 year in Burriam do I? Nor do I want to be in Chiang Mai during the smokey months while training up at Team Quest. Not exactly good for the cardiovascular system. Plan to do the expensive places like Phuket/Samui Gyms during the low season also for example.

Is it true they are really cracking down hard on people with multiple tourist visas?

A one year visa? I'm from AU so I am not sure if that is possible for me. Is it?

  4. "An ED visa for what?"

To study Thai in a cost effective manner and nove to make that rather long cumbersome trip to Laos. Tourist Visa will cost in the region of 24K a year all in. ED Visa about 20K all in close on 28 to 30K a little more but you get the Thai classes included and not have to make that long trip to Laos.

My question was in response to post #6 by Metapod. Sorry.

I want a visa solution where I am not tied to 1 location. Studying at a school restricts me to 1 place. I need to move between 4-5 places during the year to train Muay Thai.

Not asking to do anything illegal. I want to know my options regarding a visa.

  5. Here are a few suggestions.

    1) Siriraj Medical Museum

Located in the hospital. All kinds of sick and twisted/crazy stuff to see here.

    2) Flowhouse

Artificial wave machine. Catch some surf in the city.

    3) Bang Kra Jao

Hidden jungle in Bangkok only accessible by boat. Great place to bike around.

    4) Lower Sukhumvit after 2am.

Place is a zoo full of ladyboys, drug dealing africans, crazy old german sex tourists etc. Have a beer at one of the road side stalls if only for the weird ambiance.

    5) Tubtim Shrine

Forget buddha, why not visit a temple dedicated to fertility? Place is full of giant phallic shrines. Funny stuff.

    6) Roadside pizza.

Ok you might think you have seen street pizza before right? Not like this. There is a guy who not only sells, but MAKES pizza on the street in a legit WOOD OVEN on

the back of a pickup truck. You can find him near Town in Town area in Bangkok.

    7) Warehouse Hotel

    Hotel designed like a warehouse.

  6. Where is the cheapest place/school to get an ED Visa from? Ideally one where I don't have to turn up.

Problem for me is that I want to move between 3-4 locations in Thailand during the year (training muay thai at multiple camps).

    For example.

2 months Phuket, 2 months Bangkok, 2 months Chiang Mai, 2 months Ubon, etc.

What is my visa solution for this?

  7. Awesome job as usual! One question though. I was under the impression that one could not bring cameras into Burma and that foreigners were required to have a government escort to move around Yangoon. The Acadamy Award winning documentary "Burma VJ" documented these facts extensively. How did you do it?

    Not true.

I've been to Burma and Yangoon and didn't have any escort and took plenty of photos.

  8. But if its only 100 an hour the girl may be on a lower base salary even though the tip is the same. Lets say the girls get 30%. If the massage is only 100 she makes 30 baht but if its 150 baht she makes 45 baht. You've saved 50 baht but the girl has lost 15 baht.

100 an hour is standard around issan and also many places in Pattaya.

    They split it 50/50

so 100baht massage and girl makes 50baht.

i doubt this place is any different otherwise they wont have any staff.

  9. Tony's at sukhumvit 23 near Terminal 21 shopping center (BTS Asok). No nonsense massage. 100 baht for foot or Thai.

100baht for 1 hour? wow that is a good price for Bangkok.

    My normal place is 200

    It's really too cheap...

I go to a nearby massage for 150/hour plus 50 for a tip, they do a good job. The only thing I don't like about there is their seats... which do not bend.

Anyone has any experience with the Urban near Asoke station? They seem like a pro.

If they charge 100 and the place is good then I will go there instead of the other place and I will tip them 50.

So 150 instead of 200 and the girls get the same amount of money (100) both places.

Got to support business's like this. Show them that we appreciate value.

  10. No decent family are going to expect gifts or want you to pay for anything.

Thai people are very hospitable. I've stayed with Thai families on a few occasions (girlfriends and also just regular friends).

They will go out of their way to make you comfortable and insist on everything. My advice is be respectful and friendly.

Would you go meet some girls family in your home country and hand their Dad some cash and gold? Would you expect a guest in your home to pay for everything? Seriously.

Just make an effort to enjoy yourself and be gracious of their hospitality. If you get a chance to help out with something then do that too. I have bought some fruit and stuff at the market for everyone to have, helped them setup a LAN connection for their home computers, and even shared a trip from Udon Thani > BKK > Udon with my girlfriends brother as he needed someone to share the driving up and back.

Not once have I ever been asked for money and even the suggestion of it was refused.

Then again the girls I have around are not prostitutes.

If you are hooking up with bargirls and low class people and families, then expect low class behavior.

  11. been to Oskars a few times.

I'm not really into the whole cocktail thing. Rather go somewhere I can get spirits or a beer, not some chocolate thing with an umbrella.

Originally started going there as I was hooking up with a french girl that met friends there after work. Also got a Thai friend that goes there.

Guess it is a nice place if you like cocktails?

you are aware they serve beer and spirits as well aren't you?

Look like a bit of a muff if you sitting there with a beer and everyone has some fruity drink. Just not for me.

I don't mind high end clubs or restaurants but I'm not a fan of cocktail bars.

  13. Bought a NEW iPhone 3GS. I'm tickled pink with it as it's my first jump to a "smart" phone, and has more bells and whistles than I ever dreamed of. Price: 6,500 Baht.

It's OK if you don't mind being just a couple of years behind the latest gadget, and not in the rat race of "I've-gotta-buy-a-new-iPhone-every-year-because-I-can't=stand-not-having-the-latest-toy." rolleyes.gif

While I agree there are people who buy new phones simply to have the latest and greatest, that's not the only reason.

Phones, like computers, get slower over time. This doesn't mean that the actual CPUs get slower, but the software on them gets slower and slower. This is because they latest software is written for the latest device and expects a certain level of specs for CPU, GPU, and data connectivity.

Having and old phone running new software can lead to a poor user experience... much worse than an old phone running old software. But alot of times, you can't control what version of the software you run.

This is wrong for Android devices. Updates to ICS to older phones actually made them FASTER, not slower.

  14. Money, whisky and cigarettes.. and lots of money.. oh dont forget the money.. and yeah bring some cash dude!

Maybe if your "girlfriend" is a hooker and from a low moral family.

Last time I had a girlfriend from Issan and visited the family they refused to let me pay for anything. Really amazing hospitality and a great family. Dad is in the army and the mother is a french teacher.

I wouldn't respect anyone that tries to fleece a guest.

  15. What is wrong with you? Speak like a normal person, not an uneducated Thai hooker.

    What's wrong with you?

Not everyone here is NES and even for those that are, it's not polite nor reasonable to make demands on them to write perfectly correctly.

If you had seen his post history he is from Australia which most likely makes him a NES.

I don't think it is unreasonable at all to ask for a literacy rate above primary school. You don't find this frustrating to read? Talking like that with your Thai "girlfriend" is one thing, but at least talk normally if you are going to converse with other foreigners.

If you disagree then I mayaswell just resort posting on his level. "no hab ploblem wit condo you tink too much"
