  1. If you want a smartphone with good sound quality then I suggest the HTC One.

There are a few other good options too. It just depends on what you are after?

Do you want a big or small screen?

    Do you want andriod/apple/windows OS?

What do you value the most? Good camera? Good Screen? Good battery life? Waterproof/Sturdy Design? Powerful CPU/GPu for gaming?

There are a handful of top phones but none excell in every area. The obvious choices are things like the Galaxy S4, HTC One, Oppo Find 5, Xperia Z, Lumia 920, Nexus 4 etc

I'm personally waiting for the new Sony Zperia ZU to be released. It has a 6.4 inch screen and is completely waterproof. Sort of like a mix between phone and tablet. Watch youtube and browse Thaivisa in the pool. smile.png

It just comes down to finding the phone that best suits your needs.

  2. An ED visa for what? You can study or train on a normal tourist visa if that is the issue. If for study of Thai many of the schools have more than one location so might be able to accommodate change in venue. Believe most charge in the 20k per year range and extensions of 90-180 days cost 1,900 baht. If you are asking about illegal activity it is not for discussion per forum rules.

    Multiple venues could maybe work.

Are there any schools that do that?

  3. Where's the beach in Bangkok? Yes I will agree that taxis are cheaper. Don't really know or care about a hotel, I have a house, a car and motorbikes, so no problem. I can't stand the food when eating out most of the time. Good thing I am a good cook. Prices for food if you cook your own are less here than BKK. Same if you know where to buy your favorite beverage. But if you are on a holiday and living it up, I'm sure I could take you to many places in BKK that would be more expensive than most places Phuket. You're comparing apples and oranges as the old saying goes... One is a "resort island" the other is a large city...

But there is a beach in Bangkok. ;)

  4. I have run into this and it is not about modesty. Public pools often insist that men wear the tight little speedo trunks. For some reason they have decided that this is the proper suit. For the sake of the public I have declined to ever wear such a suit; and simply went to pools that did not care.

The speedo look is mocked where I come from.

I agree. The tshirts and shorts at the beach = modesty.

But at pools thais seem to love the speedos lol.

6pm at my condo = hoard of speedo wearing thai men swimming a few laps.

  5. lowest i have seen is 2.500, was tiny as <deleted> and the toilet wasn't even in a separate room. it basically just had a dividing wall that didn't even go to the ceiling. the building looked like something out of a horror movie inside. no paint on the walls and very rundown.

2 girls lived in the room and shared the same bed. a bed is basically the only thing they could fit in the room (it was that small).

they were bargirls though so most nights they don't sleep there, or atleast not always both.

I actually took some pictures of it.

place was on a soi off second road from memory. in between 2nd and baokaw.

  6. One of the oldest scams going around.

I remember when I was dating a Thai chick a few years back that we went to visit. She was an art student and wanted to go there to do some drawing. I had been a few times in the past to show friends and family around and knew the score, yet it was her first time.

When we walk towards the gate a man stops me and tells me the palace is closed for some Buddha day. I just laugh and keep walking. My date suddenly gets sad and truly believes it is shut. I was in disbelief she could fall for this considering it is her country and she is buddhist. She got a bit stroppy with me as she thought I was laughing at her expense because the place was closed!

You should have seen her face when we walked in and she realized what just happened.

  7. You know there is a funny thing about this.

I have ashtma and have had issues with breathing western countries. For some reason the air in Bangkok makes me feel like my lungs have double the capacity. Pollution / Humidity / Haze/ etc. whatever it is, it does wonders for me.

  8. This proves that the police are doing a good job.

What I would do in that situation is cooperate with the police rather than telling them no pee and to pee off and refuse.

Providing you abide by the laws then you have nothing to fear. Get caught with drugs, dealing or taking, then you`re owned, it`s that simple.

The jail houses here are stacked wall to wall with farang inhabitants incarcerated for drug offenses, many serving life sentences.

What happen if your test is still positive for marijuana... this because you smoked some joints -a few days ago- in an Amsterdam coffee shop ?!?

Should I keep a receipt from the cafe as a proof that I did drugs... but oversea and in a complete legality ?!?

a lot of countries including singapore and Malaysia (not sure about LOS) dont care if you have the drugs in your blood or yor pocket. Your still deemed a trafficker

It isn't the drug though. It is metabolites that are stored in your fat cells and can take over 30 days to disappear. Even longer if they take a hair follicle sample.

Why should someone who smoked legally a week before in another country get deported or jailed when he has no "drug" in his system, nor did he illegally solicit/use/carry in Thailand?

  9. Why did the OP 'anticipate' the loss of deposit? What did the rental contract say in regard to early termination by either party and any forfeit of the deposit?

Did the OP seriously expect the landlord to let them walk out on the 15th whilst contractually still owing the rent and utilities withheld by the OP because he 'anticipated' losing the deposit? Was this 'anticipation' based on the fact that the OP and his partner had been less than perfect tenants and there was some damage and repairs that they were ultimately going to be held responsible for, ie. lose their deposit anyway?

I would say the OP anticipated the loss of deposit because TIT.

I have always got my deposit back.

Maybe the thread starter is just a shitty tenant?

Why else would she cancel your contract and refuse to refund deposit?

  10. How about you actually put some effort into the local language and stop whining like a <Snip!>?

The problem is your fault. You live in a foreign country for years and years and you can't even order food in a restaurant. It is pathetic. What would you think about some asian or arab person who lived in your country and didn't learn enough English to order food, THEN complained and blamed it on you?

The fact he is willing to ban you from his establishment shows how annoying you must be.

  11. Best by far in my opinion which you will need

    http://word-in-the-h...android_ov.html

Not specific in teaching reading & writing but it is correct

& has some great help sections which are very valuable in themselves.

You can click any word that you look up in English or Thai script or sound & select

    explain spelling, tone rules etc.

Their Help Section has a Reading & Writing sub-section that is full of info you need.

Consonants, Consonant Clusters, Vowels & Syllables, etc.

Aside from that you can get various alphabet, vowels & Tones programs to help you

learn as that is where your reading & writing will start.

    Some that I like are

    Thai Flash

    https://play.google....XNoY2FyZHMiXQ..

    Memolicious

    https://play.google....3VzLnRoYWkiXQ..

    I don't think you understand.

    I don't want a Thai dictionary.

I want a program designed around learning reading and writing Thai.
