  1. LOL .... can't help it. "We will attack and arrest them tomorrow afternoon." I mean, I am glad the Army is doing this but wouldn't it be better if this newspaper report were in the past tense? (We arrested the corrupt politicians) It just seems so ridiculous to announce to these people worth millions in black money that they will be arrested tomorrow. I mean, who's going to stick around and wait to be arrested?

Edit: just realized it was the police who made the announcement ... now it makes sense.

  2. The Thai Ambassador to the US said on BBC that the country could do more and will, he then detailed all that's being done and felt it was enough for LoS to remain in Tier 2.

Now it remains to be seen if any sort of sanctions will be imposed after 01 Oct or will the US decide that a warning to an ' old friend and ally ' will be enough ?

Does the US really think the Thais will worry about mere words from foreigners who don't understand Thainess whereas sanctions might actually get their attention ?

Considering how much time was given the this subject on the militaries live broadcast last night you can rest assured that there is a major concern over the perception of how other countries are currently viewing Thailand,it was even the first item on the broadcast!

It all starts with the children understanding what national pride is, but I am glad that the army cares about the perception of how other countries view Thailand

  3. The way Thai people behave with tourist is what the tourist talk about when they go home. I live in city center BKK (7 years) and I don't know anyone ... I repeat, anyone who has not had more than one bad experience with a taxi driver. I was left on the tollway, bag in hand, when I refused to agree to a 600 baht charge from Don Muang to Sukhumvit, and told to get out while sitting at a light at an intersection when I refused to pay 100 baht for a 2km ride. I purposely took this taxi at a 5 star hotel drive in. I can't count the times a taxi refused me because I insisted on a meter. I am glad the army is doing something. I hope to see any taxi with his vacant light on and a passenger get fined. ps ... I have lived in 10 countries and never have I had taxi drivers the likes of the Thai taxi driver.

  4. Hats off to the Army. Karma has arrived. The long term effects of cleaning the sewer will benefit Thailand long term. Now, if the Army can upgrade the schools quality of education and if the schools will teach children what is the morally right things to do, the culture of corruption and scams will change in one generation.

  5. I guess it depends on how parents raise their children ... with dignity and principles or with no dignity and no principles. It doesn't matter if it is a 50 baht over charge or a 500 baht over charge. It is a cheap price to learn about another person's character. If they are a thief, never do business with them again ... like they care ... but you keep your principle and your money.

  6. It should be introduce in Australia, if your Thai pay triple, I would love to hear hows Thais would react to that. I just wont wear this in todays world.

You mean like Disneyland in California, where having a Thai driving license or any licence except a southern California licence will cost you three times more to get in? Or at the US National Parks where only Americans can get the discounts for old people and disabled and a Thai driver's licence means you'll have to pay more?

Get over it. Double and triple and more pricing is worldwide. Do you really think everyone on the airplane pays the same price for their ticket? If you don't want to pay the price that a merchant or a government offers, don't buy his product or service.

    .

Love your rant but I don't understand your logic. And yes ... if you are Thai visiting amusement parks outside of Thailand you should pay more. Fair play ... right?

  7. It is not based on race but nationality. Chinese, Koreans, Japanese etc. all pay the foreigners price. And it hardly ever happens, so far I have not been anywhere where I could not get in for the Thai price.

I understand the policy for (semi) government attractions (locals pay less), for private enterprises it should IMO not be allowed.

Hmmm ... I took some Taiwanese friends to the BKK zoo. I paid double price and they paid Thai price. Of course I was the one buying the tickets.

So you told them your friends were from Taiwan?

BKK Zoo, where I pay Thai price?

No. Just asked for four tickets. Doesn't that reinforce the racial aspect? Seriously it isn't good public relations for Thailand and as I said, it is illegal in the countries where most of tourists come from.

Collectively, most tourists come from countries where discriminatory pricing is illegal. This can't be good for the image of Thailand as a tourist destination.
