  1. I make sourdough too.

I keep wild yeast alive for a few weeks and it die

You can always purchase dried culture from Internet

drinking beer and make eatable food.

    We are related. :D

Unfortunately the home maid killed my sour drought (spelling??) which was well adjusted to Thailand :annoyed:

Else I would send you a nice dark rye bread which is delicious like no bread you can purchase anywhere (need a good 30 hours to produce it no shop will do that anymore).

    RIP little bacterias :(

  2. You must try Samyaan Seafood (old Buonissimo place) as good as Huahin

There's a couple of really good seafood restaurants in CM that fly up fresh fish from down south. One is called 'Phuket Seafood' and the prices are decent. Another is Similan. Question about HH how is the weather/water right now? Thinking of heading down for 3-4 days but not sure if it's worth it and also wondering if flooding is an issue. Thanks.

  3. Why would they deny member ship because you are not Thai? If you are serious about swimming I would really invest in the Center of the Universe membership

salted pool and clean. But I don't go there no more as my condo also has salt treated pool :jap:

  4. It was bad in town and the area near the river, but all get clean up pretty quick. Business as usual now

What flood? As of yesterday 3 October 2011 I don't see no flooding in Chiang Mai.

So how bad is the flooding that you see?

  5. Buy a small car , Chiang Mai is the capital of accident on motobike it's worth it.

Why have a car? It seems to be a big, unnecessary expense when there are so many living options in town and transportation via song thaew or tuk tuk is cheap and easy to find.

Hubby and I spent a month here on a recon mission in 2006, living like retirees -- i.e. getting involved in the various outside group activities of the expats club, meeting people, etc. We developed a "preliminary budget" and shared it with some of our new friends over lunch. They gave us some valuable insight. Then, armed with the budget we returned home, meet with our financial counselor and proceeded to sell our business and home and move here just as the economic meltdown started in 2008. It was one of the best decisions we've ever made.

Be sure to include costs for insurance -- medical, life, long-term care and contents of your home. Also consider the costs of maintaining your visa.

Also think about travel expenses. Will you return to your home country often? Our financial counselor had a couple other clients who retired to Thailand. He said that one couple still had issues with their lives in the U.S. and a couple of unexpected "emergency" trips back to the U.S. (to take care of aged parents and a college kid in trouble) wiped out all the savings of a lifestyle in Thailand.

  6. From Nimmanhaemin. More to come as I saw from the news :(

1 October 2011 IT'S RAININING REALLY HARD NOW AGAIN !

Where in Chiang Mai are you located? Is this the tropical storm you think, or something local?

  7. I pay around 8000 but as a renewed member and I'm allowed in the gym after 10 am to 4pm and no classes. Which are all fine by me. I have things to do in the morning and I hate classes.

I have heard of people paying as low as 8,000 for a yearly membership, but I just went in to get a quote and they said 13,000 for a year, 10,000 for 100 hours that can be interchangeable. Anyone know what the deal is? Thanks
