  1. Look, the word Farang is not an insult, there is a Thai saying, if you say to someone that he/she look like farang, it is a compliment. It means you have nice skin and tall and good looking. Is that an insult to you? The word farang dosn't mean you are an alien. It's like being called Asian in your homeland! (You are right about Thai never follow any rules though)

It is like others have said frustration.

I live in a condo with my wife, attend all the meetings, and vote for new rules, I start living by these new rules but others don't, I have spoken to the Juristic person many times about this, but no answer, so I get frustrated.

The other thing that most "Farangs" hate is the word "Farang" it is not very polite, In Germany they use the word "Auslaender" for someone who does not come from that country, again it is racist, but people will never change unless you educate them, and we all know how good the education system in Thailand is!!!!!!!!!

  2. That's it basically, why do so many posters here slag Thailand and Thai people off, whilst living in Thailand and having a Thai partner by choice ?

It could be lots of things, anger, frustration, etc, whatever. I would ask you, why do you care and will the answer set you free?

No I don't think the OP need answer he just annoyed. I personally think many Thai live in the US or the UK have a lot of complaints about their host country as well.

  3. I think their cheddar is perfect for pizza as it so rubbery and mild it's like having a mixture between mozzarella and cheap cheddar!

Decheeso's white (soft) cheeses are acceptable, but their hard cheeses are not aged and rather bland and rubbery in my opinion. Their bakery products are mediocre, but at least they are available regularly. If one purchases over 300 baht worth of their products, Decheeso offers free home delivery in the Muang area of Chiang Mai. Pick up a catalogue next time you are there--they have many, many products that one doesn't realize.

  4. Yeah, about the "generosity" part, I do have other good pies and sausages makers that I already like including Tower bridge and Gerald sausages, other Aussie style meat pies. Most have been established for decades and I'm sure I'm not their only big fan not to mention Punka brand. So I do have choices. I won't put order for a couple of thousand baht and hope one day my order will probably be worth delivered!

THe answers to your other questions regardering ordering times are on his website. He is a wholesale manafacturer who is geneorus enough to also let people buy smaller quantities. Best thing is to put in an order for a couple of thousand baht and it will probably be delivered.

  5. Hi and Nim city had jimmy deans yesterday morning but if sold out we are sorry. Our products do sell very quick but the problem is panic buying by the Restaurants and Hotels at this time as most budget sausage and bacon comes from Bangkok and due to the floods their some hotels and Restaurant Suppliers have run out of stocks and are now buying all sk stock up. We manufacture all our own products here in chiang mai so no need to panic buy.,

I was at Rimping Nim City yesterday with the hopes of getting Jimmy Dean Sausages and Ham but couldn't find them or perhaps hidden too well. I was going to place an order via their website and have it delivered to my office near the university but then noticed that delivery schedule is 4:00 - 7:00 which is when I'm already back home near Hang Dong. Did I misread the delivery times or is it also available during working hours?

Rob (owner) needs to clarify for all of us - Does Sausage King routinely stock ham and beef burgers (all kinds) in Rimping Supermarkets or not? (All I can find is sausages, hot dogs, and meat pies.) Sausage King menu lists 7 beef burgers in the Burgers section, and 3 more in the American section. Are these 3 duplicates? (I could not find a single 1 of the 10 listed at Rimping.) What does "1kg" refer to on the menu? I see the 250gm and 350gm size burgers, and a price, but what is 1 kilogram refer to? It would be more useful to indicate "Three 350-gm patties per pack," or the like. Finally, if I want to buy steak burgers and American dry cured ham, and you are no longer delivering (staff shortages), what are the hours of operation at the San Sai store for walk-in customers?

I have never seen SK ham being sold at Rimping or Tops at all. To be fair, the American burgers and American bacon are nice. I would recommend it to my friends. No preservative too I think.

  6. Custard buns is another good choice and the one at Fujian Mandarin Oriental has the best! But you can also buy frozen in all supermarket but won't be as good.

  7. I had no idea there are many local stuff thanks! Royal project is a good choice too!

You want plain yoghurt, as in sour unsweetened?

Mass market- Yolida brand (Tops and Rimping in the dairy case). 450 g live culture firm style about 55 THB. In short supply due to floods.

Local stuff- Dacheso (sold at The Hideaway Restaurant, same owners Art Cafe) big 1 lt tub, rather loose and watery 70 THB. In supply always.

I haven't tried Amazing Sandwich yoghurt but I understand they sell something similar to the above listed.

The Greeks call it Greek yoghurt, the Bulgarians Bulgarian yoghurt, yadda yadda yadda. It's simple fermented milk (cows milk here, no sheep or goat).

I know many people who make their own; it's not rocket science.

If Duchy plain yoghurt that you mention has sugar, then we are talking about 2 different things, and my apologies....

  8. I thought I will be fine and I can survive this country wide panic mode no fish sauce or Mama, etc. This evening, who I was kidding now they are out of Duchy plain yogurt! In fact I didn't see any plain yogurt at all. I suppose I have to learn to make my own yogurt? So where to by a thermometer!

  9. I dont totally agree with the comment not to invest in Thailand at all. There are many farangs or japanese already invested quite a lot in condos also non local Thai investor but they pick really good ones and they know what they are doing.

  10. Thanks for the info I guest I'm a newbie too.

Newbies often think the higher the floor, the more prestige and the quieter. Wrong! The electric bills are higher because the sun hits the higher floors of a highrise earlier and remains longer in the day. The noise is actually worse than condos at 4th or 5th floor because the trees/buildings buffer noises for people on those floors, but all the noise travels up and can be really bad at higher levels. Our first condo rental was on the 15th floor. We could hear dogs barking from three blocks away and karaoke from three miles away. People on the lower floors of our building didn't have that problem. Plus, we had to wait longer for the elevator when we lived on the 15th floor.

  11. You might also try "Spices" an Indian grocery store/restaurant near the Imperial Mae Ping Hotel. It's on the Khamphaeng Din street on the stretch that connects Sridonchai to Loi Khro. Here are the gps coordinates you can use on maps.google.com. They are my best estimate and should get you within 50 yards of the place. NancyL's recommendation is also good. I get a lot of my spices there. Very high quality saffron.

It's also a restaurant and I suspect a pretty good one since virtually all its clientele are Indians.

They are now closed or change owner and no longer sell stuff.

  12. I'm surprised I've never heard of this place before. Thank you so much for invaluable information.

I've been going to the one in Warorot market for a while including today. They also don't have many items including some basic thing like Chaat masala. The don't have Methi leaves, black cumin and carom seeds and I'm just a novice Indian cook and I'm not even Indian. I'm sure they are good persons but they don't have these things and I'm disappointed a bit.

BTW the items the op looking for are also available at Rimping.
