  1. I wouldn't say you've done a lot up here? Do you really think that?

Sensational video and production and great that you and you brother had a blast. CM riding is certainly fantastic. How did you find the cbr500.

Dont worry about negative comments you get on this forum.. generally allot of armchair experts and 'In my day, when I was a lad" folks lurk here....

Ive done allot of riding up that way and allot of the spots you visited are just great to get too... the coffee shop on the 118 serves great iced coffees doesnt it.

You might like to post your work on www.gt-rider.com. Great site, I have no affiliation with it other than its a real resource for anyone interested in Northern Thailand biking.....by far the best site for this type of work and story

Great job once again and thansk for sharing

  3. Yes it is produced on a laminated film media & is one of the most easy-on-the-eyes maps out there.

I'm anxious to see the map in person. At first blush, it looks much easier to read than the GT-Rider maps I have, especially the black type on the dark green background that is in the Mae Hong Son Loop map. Is it laminated like the GT-Rider Maps?

    Thanks

    David

  4. With more and more riders discovering the hidden treasure of the Nan region in north east Thailand, even though Nan is fully covered on the North Thailand Road & Off-Road printed map & on the North Thailand Dirt Track & Tarmac GPS map, we have been making a detailed Nan regional map with sealed roads and off-road tracks as there wasn't a decent detailed Nan Province map available.

The all new Nan Province printed map is now finished. This is without doubt the finest Nan map available, involving many years of data collection by GPS to make it possible.

    Horizons Unlimited Travellers Meetings

    January 13-14, 2012

Thailand Meeting Report January 13-14, 2012

    By M. LloydHU01s.jpg

Horizons Unlimited was where many motorbiking adventurers in Southeast Asia were found as they gathered for the sixth time in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

74 motorcycle global wanderers and serious adventurists met at the largest motorcycle traveller’s meeting held in Southeast Asia! As the Horizons Unlimited meetings have grown over the years they have become a destination point for travellers vectoring through Southeast Asia during the winter months. This year the event was held at the Rider’s Corner Restaurant and Inn located on the corner of the ancient moat in Chiang Mai.

HU02s.jpgSome of the attendees swilling and chilling during the Welcome Reception

There was a “Welcome” reception offered on Friday night by the famed Golden Triangle Rider Band for all travelers wanting to “meet and greet” before the Saturday shows and barbeque. After an hour of complementary beer and Jameson whiskey mixes, the crowd of over 60 was entertained with soothing background music of the Golden Triangle Rider Band which included musical poetry and ballads like

    Motorcycle bludger on early retirement

    (Tuba solo

); Me, a Golden Triangle washed-up old drunk

    (100 Pipers flutist);

We’re the real “Golden Triangle Ryder Sycophants”

    (All holding members); and

With my Thorazine and Keamine I’M UNDER CONTROL

(Rubber band man). The playlist included 12 new titles from their soon to be released CD.

One multimedia presentation was offered by members of the Shan State of Burma (62,500 square miles) outlining their struggle for recognition, democracy and recent accomplishments. The Department of Foreign Affairs, Restoration Council of Shan State, told their incredible story including the relations their government has had since 1947.

    HU03s.jpg

Robert Hiekel had ridden his motorcycle from China to Pattaya, then tagged a part of Burma (Myanmar) on his way up to the HU Meeting, completing “The Umpung Tung Yai Naresuan Jungle Track” as described on RideAsia.Net

The Friday night presentations also included motorcycle travel multimedia presentations by Jim Barbush about motorcycle adventures and travels in Laos and Taiwan. Barbush and his company Remote Asia (

    www.RemoteAsia.com

) availed their extensive experience on motorcycle travel, rentals and security to the audience and served as the resident expert on Asia travel throughout the two days.

    HU04s.jpg

Some of non-camera shy attendees were found having fun prior to the evening meetings.

Saturday found many travelers gathering for a group photo in the afternoon while others explored the area surrounding Chiang Mai, both on and off-road.

HU05s.jpgA sidecar had come overland from Germany and was working its way around the world.

Saturday evening began with an All-You-Can-Eat barbeque by the staff of the Rider’s Corner Restaurant, known as the best barbeque in Chiang Mai. Following the meal were introductions cajoled by Jeff Pike of all the attendees telling where they were from, going and what types of motorcycles they were using. It was a wildly mixed audience with several travellers circling around the world while others were beginning their motorcycle adventures in Thailand.

Three multimedia shows followed the barbeque. They were

    : Motorcycling in Burma (Myanmar)

by Dr. Gregory Frazier and Kerstin Hassmann,

    Around the World by Motorcycle

    by Geoff Thomas and

    Iceland by Motorcycle

by Sherrie Thomas. Following the presentations there was a question and answer period chased by swilling and chilling until closing time.

    HU07s.jpg

Motorbikes from around the world were on display from the Rider’s Corner to nearly the Kafe hangout of watchers drawing plenty of attention.

January 11 and 12 were announced as the dates for the 2013 Horizons Unlimited Traveller’s Mini-Meeting, again to be held at the Rider’s Corner Restaurant and Inn

Thanks so much for that , really apprecaite it. Ive written to the hotel.. who knows.

Does anyone know whay the traffic was so bad between 6 and 7 pm last night from Soi 24 down to the turn off past Nana for airport ??

  9. Dan Sai, Phi Ta Khon, ghost/ mask festival 22-23 June, 2012

A group of us headed down from Chiang Mai to the Dan Sai, Loei, Phi Ta Khon, ghost/ mask festival last weekend, it's one of the most colorful festivals in Thailand, well worth a visit.

    7431961538_fd828aeb8e_b.jpg

A really fun event for everyone

There 's a full report on the RideAsia website, the photo's won't copy over from there, if you want more detail look there under new posts and look for "Phi Ta Khon" - it was a great weekend!

  10. You'll find that most experienced superbike riders (1,000cc sports bikes) will tell you that R 120 that joins Mae Kachan (R118) to Phayao (R1) is one of the best roads for those bikes in north Thailand. The curves arn't too tight and you can carry lots of speed through them.

    7405751340_a415f4871f_b.jpg

If you have time, take the 120. That route never gets old smile.png

How right you are in fact do the 120 twice.

  11. I spent 6 months in Japan, I couldn't believe how little English was spoken there too.

i would like them to speak more than 2 words of english as they have had years of english classes in school and they chose the service industry in an international destination.

Everywhere else in the world, uneducated dumbos are able to speak english in places of tourism, even road sellers are pretty decent. Yet in thailand even an university educated tourism worker can't put 3 words together except 'you pay!'

You ever been to Japan? Ive been well over 40 times....I heard less English spoken by Japanese than Thais, and Japan is supposed to be an educated 1st world country. I found it glum / bleak and boring, unless we found a Thai or Filipino Kareoke bar.

There is no tipping in Japan so what's your point?

The Japanese don't NEED to speak English in their own country.

If the only place you can find fun in Japan is a Thai or Flip bar I feel sorry for you.
