  1. Correct OP - sold for your sole use

OP - Under Thai law it is copyrighted for 50 years - illegal to copy but can be used in different Garmin GPS's - it's not locked to one GPS unit.

    Thai Copyright Law

Yes, I was figuring that Thai copyright law would apply. Sometimes end user agreements involve restictions on use beyond the minimum set forth by copyright law. Sounds like in this case as long as the maps or used only by one person there is no issue.

If you download Garmin's basecamp software, with your Garmin gps connected to your computer, you should be able to view the map in basecamp on your computer.

Is there a way to import the GPS version of this map into Garmin's Mapsource software?

Thanks for that. After some playing around I finally got your North Thailand Map to load into Mapsource. The thing that initially seemed to be tripping things up was that there appeared to be no FID code embedded in the mapset and unless I manually set an FID code when splitting the files for Mapsource it was a no-go.

BTW, when I bought the maps it came on a SD card with no documentation. What are the licensing terms on this product? I have only one GPS unit and will be sharing the maps with no one, so I assume that it's legal for me to hack on them however I want in order to use them on my PC and on my GPS unit. Is that a good assumption? I only ask because I ran into the need for an unlock code when working with Mapsource, and I'm not sure if that's because of a technical issue with Mapsource or because of copy protection on your mapset.

    Congratulations on your new map!

Are all Thailand place-names in standard romanized spelling? The standard system is the one developed by the Royal Institute of Thailand and now used by the Thai government's Royal Thai Survey Department (RTSD) as well as the U.S. National Geo-Spatial Intelligence Agency (NGA).

Does your map also display Thailand place-names in the original Thai script?

    Thanks!

  7. The SD card is not currently locked to a unique GPS unit, it will work in any Garmin GPS that has an SD card slot

On reading your ordering instructions for the Lao GPS map. It says I must supply the Unit ID of the GPS I own when I order. I guess this means I can't move the Lao Map micro sd card from one unit to another? I usually carry a spare GPS unit.

  8. Dave is a class act with tons of experience, there is no doubt in my mind that his Duke's burger express will be a huge success opposite the robbed SCB bank on Moon Muang Road. I won't wish you good luck Dave, because you won't need it!

It will severely hurt Mike's Burger & the Mexican place (can't remember the name) opposite, also all the places will suffer down by the U.N Irish pub.

  9. 100,000 bht a month seems to be my magic number without watching the pennies, that includes riding (motorcycles) whenever i get the itch

After crunching the numbers, I concluded that for me Thailand would be no cheaper. There are many reasons to live in Thailand, but unless you can live like a local, I don't think cost is one of them.

After 10 years here thats about where I am..

I support my mother with a UK household also so know what it costs to keep a house and person who lives a normal life in the UK. Living here in Thailand I spend (a lot more) than she does but make no pretense its living frugally.

I love living here, enjoy life a lot.. But am not here because its cheap. I actually think I could live in southern Europe pretty much the same with a decent villa, climate, and pool etc..

You can exist for 50k a month, you can live pretty decently for 80 or so.. Quality imported fixtures fitting linens etc dont come into that kind of budget tho.. Good stuff rapidly gets VERY expensive.. Getting the balance right between where to spend and where to economize is the skill.

My life on Phuket before was always north of 120k a month and often 150.

Is there anyone else out there who is currently enjoying SlingBox viewing at streaming rates better than my 220-240Kbps?
