As I wrote earlier, I missed my report in April but left the country shortly thereafter. I submitted my next report, 90 days after I returned to Thailand, and it was accepted. However, I did it by post. Had I done it in person, maybe the missed report would have meant a fine.

How it's just a bit of paper nothing is on record , not even a computer in the office I report at. So they just go by the last slip or the last date of entry.

  2. Hopefully a bit on topic, went to samut prakan to do a 90 day today, they 'don't really do' mail or via the web. They now demand 5 different copies of you passport, why who knows. Wanted to know why I stay in Thailand after 10 years, finding it harder to answer every time they ask, the novelty of all their silly ways wore off a long time ago.

If you don't and have to hoof it to immigration try the mails next time. No fuss no muss just 2 stamps and away it goes and returns 4 days later. This online reporting is a farce in most cases.

Not much fun when it does not arrive back in the post, it's all a farcical waste of everyone's time anyway, even the officers seem to think so.

Interesting report...I know several former working girls who married farangs and ended up in Europe. They are in long-term relationships and now have kids and also work (one a chef and another as a licensed care-giver). They also have become pretty fluent in English (one both English and Finnish) and own and drive cars too. They have made respectable lives for themselves so it definitely can be done if there's good material to start with.

    Good luck to you all.

Far more such relationships end up in divorce though, the odds are against it working, but good luck to the ones where it has.

  5. I have been back to the UK for a few weeks every year for 10 years, might have it's faults and negatives but not as many as Thailand. There are positives about Thailand that the UK would do well to copy such as it's treatment of illegal immigrants, but overall the UK is now a better place to live IMO.

  6. Some people would justify living in, and like living in N Korea if it had prostitutes! This country has become a repressive moralistic one with the fun element and optimism gone replaced by fear and propaganda. I am off next year as well. Actually it's Thailand that is the nanny state with it's ludicrous licencing hours, meant to curb under age buying, but with the buying hours coinciding with lunch hour and after School :whistling: Then you have the laughable censoring of elements on tv and film where knifes, guns, cigarettes, drinks  and even Rubens like paintings have to be masked out to protect the vulnerable. Sometimes so much stuff is pix-elated out on the screen it's hard to tell whats going on. All this in the sex capital of Asia, sheer hypocrisy and stupidity. People cannot voice their opinions for fear of arrest with even an opinion about a certain dog leading to a virtual death sentence in prison. At least we have the luxury of being able to get on a plane and away from this madness. Land of smiles it may have been, but that was a long time ago and even the love it or leave brigade know that.

I am not understanding. To do the 90 days report it's seems to be a big hassle. in accordance with comments. In the reality it is very easy  to arrange by internet, by post, or personally. Only to fulfill the TM47 and enclosing some copies of documents.

Internet does not work, my office will not do postal, it's a long way and they want passport x4 copies, it's a hassle if you can get away with not taking a day to do it, and of course it's a total waste of time.

There was one prior pretty negative post in this thread thus far re Samut Prakan, but it appeared to be for a business-oriented transaction vs. a marriage or retirement extension.

How about your experience with Samut Prakan?

2008 after going over my extension application was told I had gone too early (not) and to come back in 2 weeks. As I was leaving the officer said no go to Suan Phlu as they did not really do extensions there. When I mentioned the sign that said they did and questioned why they had the forms she was quite rude. Moved just after anyway so did not have to deal with her again. it has improved since then.
