  1. Damn, that was a fantastic guitar solo. I loved them when they were Chicago Transit Authority before they had to shorten their name to Chicago due to being threatened by a lawsuit by the actual CTA. But I didn't care for them as their music evolved. Introduction from that classic '69 debut double album.
  2. Jessi Colter with Hold Back The Tears off of her '78 That's The Way A Cowboy Rocks And Rolls album.
  3. Glenn Campbell with the title track of his '68 Wichita Lineman album.
  4. Merle Haggard with California Blues (Blue Yodel #4) off of his '69 Same Train, Different Time LP.
  5. It's more of a case of not letting trouble find you. It has something to do with your sixth sense.
  6. Prudence dictates. I understand. But there's a part of me that believes in self fulfilling prophesies. I've had some experiences with those . . . Ultimately the only thing of importance is acting in accordance with whatever one believes is best for them. My advice is certainly not a one-size-fits-all solution. On the part of all is well until the dog arrives; I'd already be long gone. There's kinda a trick to that. Ask any cat.
  7. A very well done arrangement on that tune. Reminds me of Mary Hopkin's '68 hit single Those Were The Days, a new English lyric put to the Russian romance song Дорогой длинною. My mum loved this song.
  8. On a similar musical style is Herb Alpert's '68 single This Guy's In Love.
  9. That was an AM radio classic in '67 in the U.S. "L'amour est bleu" (French pronunciation: [lamuʁ ɛ blø]; "Love Is Blue") is a song whose music was composed by André Popp, and whose lyrics were written by Pierre Cour, in 1967. Bryan Blackburn later wrote English-language lyrics for it. First performed in French by Greek singer Vicky Leandros (appearing as Vicky) as the Luxembourgish entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1967, it has since been recorded by many other musicians, most notably French orchestra leader Paul Mauriat, whose familiar instrumental version (recorded in late 1967) became the first number-one hit by a French lead artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 in America. Vicky Leandros' original version is worth a listen, too.
  10. Patti Smith covers Nirvana's iconic '91 tune Smells Like Teen Spirit. Off of her 2007 Twelve release.
  11. I bought the 45 RPM when it came out. Too young at the time to do any appropriate drugs to accompany the song, though.
  12. Well, you hit a trifecta with Townsend, zzaa09. The same tune performed live during the same '86 concert as Rough Boys.
  13. What a remarkable cover by Townsend of The [English] Beat's Save It For Later which was off of their final '82 studio album Special Beat Service. Must play the most excellent original version, too.
  14. R.E.M in a duet with Patti Smith on E-Bow The Letter performed live in New York in '98.
  15. My current sentiment is "much ado about nothing." It's not by any means the first idiotic scheme cooked up by the Thai government to be reversed rather quickly after they experience the disastrous results. Take a close look at my avatar. The dog is nowhere to be found and the cat understands well. The cat does not react to imaginary situations but does react to very real ones. As an analogy, up to now this is the Thai government posting the "Beware of the dog" sign. I'll deal with it when an actual symbolic dog appears. Colour me stupid or colour me wise.
  16. I've yet to watch it but it's U.S. centric. It features "Doctor Tax" Thomas Carden of American International Tax Advisers and he discusses the implications of this proposed tax scheme. Perhaps it contains valuable information for other nationalities. Not sure as I haven't watched it yet.
  17. Patti Smith with a pretty tune, Fireflies, off of her '96 Gone Again release.
  18. Well this seems destined to fail. The banking industry is not onboard. Taking bets on how many days before this boondoggle gets tossed in the rubbish bin. First and foremost, the private banking industry is unambiguously unsettled by the announcement. Banks, after all, are gatekeepers to the capital flows that keep an economy robust. Their clients, many of whom have already moved funds out of Thailand, are now confronted with a policy quagmire that could have been avoided with clearer guidelines. https://www.thaienquirer.com/50755/opinion-thailands-ambitious-plan-to-tax-incoming-funds-risks-falling-flat-due-to-lack-of-clarity/
  19. I would add the outright theft of the treasury by those who have access to it. Sure, it's not like they write treasury checks to themselves. But in a roundabout way it finds it's way into their bank accounts.
  20. "No doubt foreigners residing in Thailand and making use of govt services and infrastructure should be paying tax in Thailand . . . " The old gov't services and infrastructure fallacy. If all tax money were spent legitimately then they'd be flush with cash. But that's not what happens in the real world. I reject your claim that you were born yesterday.
  21. My all-time favourite from The Smiths. How Soon Is Now? off of their '85 Hatful Of Hollow LP.
  22. Leonard Cohen with Avalanche off of his '71 Songs Of Love And Hate album.
