My Halloween song for 2023. Marilyn Manson with a very creative cover of the Eurythmics Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) off of his '95 Smells Like Children album. Not technically a Halloween song but Manson's video character rivals any ghastly Halloween creature that I can conjure in my imagination. Great cover, though.

Harvey also released a solo blues album later in '64 titled The Blues. On this album one can find his remarkable cover of the old negro blues standard St. James Infirmary Blues.

Their cover of Lonnie Johnson's Backwater Blues, however, was on that '64 LP.

I take a pass on most - not all - of his glam rock phase. But boy does he shine in his early blues years. Alex Harvey and His Soul Band covering Willie Dixon's '54 blues standard Hoochie Coochie Man. Not on the Soul Band's original '64 album but included on the German '99 re-release. There's a very interesting and unique guitar solo in this tune.

Great cover of that classic song. There's Glenn Campbell's cover, released the same year as the original. By May 1968, an estimated 50 artists had recorded covers of "Gentle on my Mind", while Campbell's recording had sold 600,000 singles. As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. "Gentle on My Mind" is a song that was written and originally recorded by John Hartford, and released on his second studio album, Earthwords & Music (1967). Hartford composed the song after watching Doctor Zhivago in 1966, as he was inspired by the film and his own personal experiences. The lyrics describe the reminiscences of lost love of a man as he travels through the country. The following year, Hartford released the song as a single on RCA Records. That was The Blasters. A great rockabilly retro band. Worth checking out their material. Marie, Marie off of their '81 self titled 2nd album.

Great tune to listen to on a Friday or Saturday night before heading out for a night of drinking and maybe getting lucky.

Excellent Santana playlist, zzaa09. I'll add to that playlist Santana performing the instrumental Europa (Earth's Cry Heaven's Smile) live to highlight Santana's marvelous guitar on that track. Off of their '77 Moonflower double album.

The '86 film Platoon similarly had a superb soundtrack. Smokey Robinson & The Miracles with The Tracks Of My Tears off of their '65 Going To A Go-Go debut LP.

Of course the '94 Forrest Gump film had all of the popular Vietnam war protest songs and more. The Rooftop Singers with their '63 single Walk Right In.

You could always count on director Quentin Tarantino to have a good soundtrack to his movies. Charlie Feathers with That Certain Female from the 2003 Kill Bill Vol. 1 movie.

Nine Inch Nails with the Joy Division cover Dead Souls.

Another great movie soundtrack was from the '94 movie The Crow. The Cure with Burn.

Pulp Fiction had an awesome soundtrack as well. Maria McKee with If Love Is A Red Dress Hang Me In Rags.
