  1. Where is it located?

    • 8/1 Na Wat Gate, Chiang Mai, Thailand
    • 053-324621

Nrarawat Bridge - going out of town. Immediate left at the end of the bridge. Pass Riverside and Goodview Reataurant on your left Go as far as the Isuzu Dealer on the right (perhaps 300 metres). Turn right. 20 metres to T-Junction. Turn left. Take first right. You will find Hindlays appoximatly 300 metres on your right

with parking inside the restaurant compound.

Not sure but sounds like you would be going to Bake And Bite from the bridge. Is that the correct route?

  2. The Thai people will eventually forgive Thaksin, but don't mention the amnesty, just yet ?

    Excellent piece of fence-sitting, there ! B)

I agree with that. Thais are a forgiving people and definitely would forgive him eventually. I think though, the requirement for that forgiveness may be that he disappear from the stage for awhile, maybe some contrition, maybe some atonement, maybe not involving himself in matters of state for awhile where he tends to destroy everything and everyone he comes in contact with.

How about he supports the families of all the red shirts who died doing his bidding. How about he pay every Baht spent cleaning up and reconstruction of the mess and deliberate destruction done at his bidding. How about he repay all the people who lost there means of making a living just because they were in the way of his downtown picnic.

I for one would be willing to consider forgiving him if he did the above. It would mean to overlook the damage he did to the reputation of Thailand and the money lost by a decrease in tourism. A good start would be a admittance that he should not have done all that and a sincere apology for doing it.

Any one thinks that is going to happen still believes in the tooth fairy. Does any one think he wants education for Thai's "NO" that would mean people can think and that is not a desirable thing for a man in his position.

  3. Viewing Thai politics through international media every time Abhisit speaks he comes across as reasonable, sensible, articulate and honest (ok so it's an election and everyone is going tp talk up their chances), every time you here Thaksin speak he comes across as sniveling, victimized, flippant or confrontational. Setting aside the character assassinations that both men have had tp weather, there can be no doubt who the better man is, even if the votes recognize who the better politician is!

Yes, PM Abhisit is personable and well spoken to those of us that speak english. However, to the ears of a non English language speaker it means nothing. Yes, he speaks Thai in a polite manner, but it doesn't matter to the listener earning a subsistence wage. What were Mr. Abhisit's achievements prior to entering political life? Aside from the family connections and the old boys networking, what did he really do? Think about it. Was he a captain of industry? Did he distinguish himself by building a company? Was he active in the improvement of Thais lives as a civil rights campaigner, or an advocate of the poor? No. He came from a life of perks and didn't distinguish himself as an individual.

Mr. Thaksin can be called a snivelling thief or an evil person, but the fact is that he was smart enough to go from being an outsider to an insider and to build a fortune in the same way that many of thailand's elite hisos acquired their fortunes. Whatever, Thaksin's faults are ,he has experience as a self made man, a man that built a business empire and a man that went from humble beginnings to the PM's office. He did it on his own. He also fell from power because of his misjudgements. I think he's learnt from his past mistakes and I also think he's tougher than PM Abhisit. I doubt Mr. Abhisit could have stood up to the pounding Mr. Thaksin's taken.I doubt any of the people that take their daily potshots at Thaksin could ever attain a smidgin of his success or could take on all the folks trying to get him.

The fact that Thaksin has survived this long and has had the ability to take his opponents on, despite the odds being against him speaks to his strength and yes, even to his intelligence. He's a fighter, a tough guy that isn't afraid to show his emotional side sometimes. I offer that a great many Thais can see those qualities and gravitate to a guy that they can identify with, a man that might be a wealthy elitist in private, but one who can be seen as a man of the people, a man that is perceived to have the interest of the poor at heart. He might be full of BS, but he does a better job at conveying concern and empathy than Mr. Abhisit. That doesn't mean Mr. Abhisit isn't a decent man or that he is a bad guy. It's just about perceptions.

Not sure if I understand why a person has to have a list of credentials in stealing bribing and back stabbing to be a good PM. Yes Abhist has not demonstrated to us that he is good at those things. In my book that makes him a good man for the job.

For the rest of your article you had many good points they are not however mandatory to be a good PM. As I said you had a lot of good points. But the big question is who the he--l are you talking about..

Please give us a name and not the one of some one convicted of corruption and facing other charges if he decides to live in Thailand. And please give us the name of some one who has not concisely applied for and received citizenship in another country.

You use the same logic as the red shirts. Pick a person you want and put up a smoke screen so no one can see the real person.

Out of curiosity how many kilo's of rice will perception put on a poor Thai's plate?

  4. Pheu Thai have no choice but to start whisper campaigns against the army. They have nothing to offer for the betterment of Thailand so start a fear campaign

    .

O wait I forgot they were going to offer all school children a free computer so they wont have to learn how to add two plus two and come up with four. And the list of nonsense goes on and on. One week they are going to give amnesty to every one the next week it is on the back burner. Like as if the man they take there orders from is going to let that happen. After all the money he spent and lives he caused to end. Just so he can come back and take a firmer hold on controlling the money from corruption that he is so good at and also solidify his power.

To be fair the Democrats have thrown out some ridicules promises also but they have enough of a solid platform that they don't have to start a fear campaign.

  5. Here some info:

    3G -> 3.9G

    image002.jpg

There seems to be confusion when people discuss terms like 3.5G, 3.75G so i decided to define them. I am sure people who have objections will comment. Lets first start with 2G systems:2G = GSM2.5G = GPRS2.75G = EDGE Then moving onto 3G systems:3G = WCDMA, R99 (i am not looking at other technologies but similar mapping will apply)

    3.5G = HSDPA3.75G = HSUPA3.8G = HSPA+ (HSPA Enhancements)3.85G = 'HSPA+' + MIMO

    3.9G = LTE 4G = NOT WiMAX

    Finally some one understands !!.........

It is all over my head I am Tec challenged.

Will it give us a faster and more reliable connection to the internet?

Or is it going to just be for Telephones and other type communication devises?

that being the case what will it mean too me with my five year old Nokia?

Any simple answers would be appreciated.

I don't think it will improve the internet unless you use an air card. What it should do is improve internet on the phones (smart phones)

But really what is about to happen is TOT has just figured out a way to double you cell phone bill tell you that you now have 3G and put all the money for new equipment and towers in there pockets. That is why it took so long to get the new technology released. They had to make sure everyone is going to get there cut.

Many thanks some times us challenged just have to ask and really appreciate the no frills answers. Again many thanks.

  7. Sounds to me like a dangerous precedent has been set here.

    How so ??

I think it's quite encouraging to see Wireless Rd exercising common sense and a bit of compassion.

Qualities that they were previously lacking.

    I agree with you.

It makes no sense for a government to allow a man and his baby to come in to the country and deny access to the mother who is a honest working lady. Now if she had been the working lady like in some of the bars on Loi Khro that would be a different situation and possibly handled differently.

Remember both the father and the baby were citizens. And the mother would have had to go back to the Philippines and jail. Hardly comparable to most cases of people taking there Thai wife's back home.

Before you start I do admit that there is probably some but not many similar cases.

  8. I presume you mean Thursday morning 3:00AM

    That's what he said.

Here is the original article it is not on Thursday it is on Wednesday June 15.

    But thanks for your insight.

A total lunar eclipse will take place on June 15, 2011. It is the first of two total lunar eclipses in 2011, the second occurring on December 10.

  9. I may be wrong, (and I admit that Thai politics can frequently defy Western logic), but I can see three scenarios that could lead to post-election violence:

    1. PT fails to win the largest number of seats: The Redshirts would be out in a flash, claiming electoral fraud.

    2. PT wins more seat than any other party (quite likely), but fails to put together a coalition: Again the Reds would come out.

    3. PT forms a government and tries to give Thaksin amnesty. The Yellows would be revitalized or the army would step in. - I don't think a PT victory, in and of itself, would lead to violence only the threatened return of Thaksin would.

Well I have to agree with you a pt victory would not lead to violence but a pt loss would. Thaksin spent a lot of money to get the chance to come back and he would not just roll over if all doors were shut in his face with the exception of coming back and doing the Democratic thing and serving his time.

  10. I have always wanted to meet you just procrastinating.

As soon as your are back in operating shape I will be darn sure to fix that and when I leave you will know who hellodolly is.

    Get well soon.

  11. Interesting a posted judgement on one stretch of road all of a sudden draws out a lot of Thai women bashers and some even went to the farong women bashing.

As for the road it is a great experience if you are new to Thailand. If you are not new it is a great place to meet a wife for a night. If you are looking for culture what the F are you doing there. Do you go to five star hotels looking for bar girls. It is what it is and that is a part of Chiang Mai

Sorry to disappoint but my wife of five years is the best thing that ever happened to me. Of course she is 53 and I am 69 nor do I have a million Baht to give her every year.

I do not fool my self if I was buying a women or looking for one less than half my age I would expect to get some unwanted results.

  12. Two things.

1 I know there is a manufacturing plant in Chiang Mai making fly's so would there not be a shop some where that sells them as well as reel, rod and line.

2 I see people fishing in the ping river off the iron bridge and close by. What is it they catch and is it edible?

  13. My doctor has drugs on hand to sell. The one thing I like about buying from her is I feel assured she is giving me good medicine. When I first started seeing her she had me bring in every thing I was taking supplements and all. When I took it in she went through them all and said good or no good. When she came to one She did not know she traced the manufacture down and found out what was in it. She told me it was a mild pain killer. My friend who had turned me on to it had told me it was to help the joints. like a anti inflammatory. Not so

I had been taking niacin for my cholesterol not that easy to find in Chiang Mai she looked at it and said it was such a week dose it was almost useless. The test's pretty well backed her up on that. She then got me another one she had to have it shipped in from Bangkok and now my cholesterol is all down to acceptable and the good one is above average.

I might get them all cheaper elsewhere but I feel confident in what I get from her and for myself only that is a big thing worth a few Baht.

  14. Can't say if they are reputable or not as I have never dealt with them.

There is one on the ground floor in Pantip plaza on Chang Klan night bazaar.

I have hearing aids but I can get them for free or worked on if they need it in Canada. So I have not talked to them about it.

Let us know how you make out wherever you go.

  15. Just to correct you, they drive on the correct side of the road. Well, some of the time, some of the time they don't know and the rest of the time they hedge their bets!

Absolutely correct ! Being English I would say they do drive on the right side of the road in general, but I am constantly meeting people coming towards me who are driving on the wrong side of the road, even on dual carriageways. It's just something that we get used to here.

You two forgot to mention on the sidewalks to.

For myself that is different and I can appreciate it. Well so far it has been a very up beat thread let us hope others put in there two baht worth. All appreciated I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised that cost was not the number one item so far. I feel like it has a limitless supply of good things to enjoy and it is up to me to do so. n Only fly in the ointment is I don't have a vehicle or any desire to get one. Some day I will just hire a car to take me and my camera around the out lying areas and enjoy them also, also I will stop at a road side Thai cafe and see what I get.. I know it is not as good as a motorbike but that is some thing I will have to live with. Thanks for the posts. I am getting the feeling that it is the little things that make it so wonderful. All added up they become monstrous. Keep them coming

  16. I was reading the article about the most dangerous thing in Chiang Mai and it hit me let us see what people enjoy the most about Chiang Mai.

For myself it is the culture it is so different. I do not judge it as better or worse than what I had back home just different. I am retired and it opens a whole new world to me. The only thing lacking is a beach. Also I have to admit it is disconcerting to have every one for the most part driving on the wrong side of the road.

Could prove to be a very informative thread. Might find new things to enjoy. At the present time I am out walking around seeing things I had not seen in years due to self imposed isolation. Chiang Mai gives me the opportunity to start all over again.:jap:

  17. What a crock, European tourists do not go to Pattaya to learn about the Thai culture they go for sex, if they arrive totally unaware that Pattaya is the biggest brothel in the world they pretty soon find out and have a disappointing holiday. I must add I admire the large expensive hotel chains that are moving in, but being a cynic I suspect they have their eye on the rich middle East guys rather than mum, dad, granny and the three kids from Birmingham.I must add this guy sounds a little crazy ( read a lot ) to suggest Mexico will be a rival to Thiland ref tourism, nobody dare go to Mexico because of the drug murders. I have Mexican relatives living in LA who are too afraid to cross the border to visit their own family. does this guy work for TOT //???????

Yes I got a laugh out of the Mexico comment also. There is a war going on there. My sister used to go to Mexico frequently from Texas but now they even avoid the road that runs along the border. So if this author is so far off in that respect than how accurate is his other info?!

I have done a little traveling in Mexico and drug wars or no drug wars it is no competition for Thailand tourists.

  18. Is this going to be the red shirts method of trying to stop the drug trade. Threaten any one who is doing some thing about it no matter how small a action.

Can just imagine what they will do if the army cought a big fish. With there mentality they would in all likly hood accuse the army of trying to stage a coue . They are not exactly the sharpest tools in the shed. Sorry about the spelling.

If you really believe the "Red Shirts" are the main players in the drugs trade I suggest you look again. Take a peek at the USA and see how many squeaky clean leaders have the old fingers in the pie. Regarding the Thai situation you need to dig deep into Thai culture and politics to get an answer

Perhaps you are a little confused I said nothing about the red shirts being involved in the drug trade. As for the states you could be rite but it would take a heck of a lot of money and time to find it. In Thailand it is almost common knowledge you don't have to scratch far.

Just out of curiosity why are you defending the red shirts against a charge no one made. I think your love for them is clouding your judgement. As I said not the sharpest tools in the shed.
