I have the same problem from time to time, but a good cream works wonders.

Perhaps i'm wrong, but i believe that those symptoms might have something to do with a slight de-hydration.

yes. much better to intake more water on the inside than try to just soften skin from the outside.

  2. I did book the bus to Phuket once so I assume similar possible for Krabi.  I used one of the shops on Pattaya Klang not too far from the Soi Bukhao entrance.  Can't remember the name.  Do  book the VIP and double triple check you actually get the VIP seat.  The first time I booked I paid for VIP, pointed out the seat on the chart, paid, etc.  I showed up next day, bus driver/mini van arrived and said VIP sold out.  the lady said can re schedule for next day. Now I had checked out of my hotel and was not going to pay a one night versus weekly rate for a hotel.   The lady then offered to give me the price difference but I said no way.  For the overnight long drive I must have the VIP seat.  So I think it was a scam attempt.  I demanded and got my full money back and the lady and the bus guy were not happy.  Well tough.  I changed my plans, stayed in Pats another week and ending up flying

I am male and legally changed my surname to include my Thai partner's back in the USA before moving to Chiang Mai. I now have a hyphenated surname which appears on all of my documents, including my USA issued passport. The general reaction has been positive when others either hear it or read it.  I have gotten smiles to thumbs up to one person saying I didn't look Thai. Only problem is due to my surname's length, signature lines on forms, etc., are never long enough. 555+

    is partner male or female

  4. Every body could have acted sooner.  And every body could act later in opening things up.  Either end can help the illness and probably death rates and total numbers.  But who decides what and when?  And what will we do about similar things in the future as more people are crowded together, travel between states, and borders, and countries and continents makes spreading anything easier and quicker than in the old days.  look at the black plague.  Took a huge toll and of course took a while to spread by foot travelers, horse travelers, boats, etc.  There is little isolation and separation these days.   The human population could be in for a world of hurt

  5. Sad so sad the way Thai government officials and "leaders" always ply for help from the people or populace, and try the patriotic need approach or such things.  On my first trip there in 2004 I had a good impression of the government and overall things.  More people seemed to be able to read and write than many so called High School graduates in the USA these days.  The government seemed to be nominally elected.  Boy, day and night perceptions now

  6. Think twice about putting anybody you care about in any nursing home.  They have financial issues, low paid staff, oversight is sketchy at best, maintenance and cleaning is on the surface only.  That recirculated air can be a killer.  I know caring for elderly or a family member can be tough.  But do consider home care, or even a live in caregiver and try to arrange the house differently or anything but a nursing home cesspool.

  7. I would never get it.  Most flu type vaccines are not very effective.  Most flu type vaccines one has to get yearly and the health organizations struggle and guess what the vaccine should be as it is quite a dynamic environment.  I do not have any underlying conditions that tend to make one more ill if one contracts these types of viruses including COVID 19.  Now if the world keeps panicking and demands some sort of vaccine proof or one can't travel, well, that is a bit different and I hope they do not go that way.  I do not need to fly anywhere although of course there are places I would like to travel to eventually.

Not only the pilots, but the aircraft is not like a car jump in and start. The engines will need to be fully checked for safety before attempting to fire them up.

Oh yeah.  I just finished working on the X-47B UAV and did an engine run which we have to do periodically to keep things healthy as well as check and drain and fill hydraulics, service emergency Nitrogen pressurization bottles, etc.  Have to do it for both vetted maintenance reasons and for warranty reasons. Pratt Whitney who makes our engine will wash their hands of us if we don't treat the engine properly.

It can takes monthes to restart airline traffic.

If held for too long ( 2 monthes for AF ) ,pilots are loosing their license and need to pass them again to be allowed to fly...

I do not know the number of  hours large airline pilots need in a given year to remain certified or proficient, but you bring up a good point.

Guess the additional deaths caused through starvation, suicide and untreated medical conditions will outnumber the corona death by far.

I believe that 100% and not just because of the booze cutoff, but because of the economic upheaval, the loss of so many small businesses, big factory layoffs, closures, etc.  The Thai economy was fairly fragile to begin with and nobody knows how much GDP the military has been siphoning off that never makes it onto the books

  11. Heck I am in an Extended Stay America in New Jersey while working away from home.  Not sure of the sqm.  But got a good rate and have full size fridge, two burner stove, microwave, laundry machines one floor below me, 4 miles to work side streets, shower and tub in the bathroom.  I plan to stay here for 8 months or until I tire of the job.  Two years ago in Melbourne, Florida I stayed in a Suburban extended stay hotel, that had all of the above plus a fitness center, and the kicker was I was 1 mile from work!  One mile from work.  And after a few months stopped paying hotel taxes.  Cleaned once a week.  Was quiet, had a nice view out the windows.  No balcony.

This is how I have lived on many of my contracts as I work away from home, but am getting a bit tired of it.  But it sure beats having landlord issues, damage deposits being abused, work contracts ending sooner than expected or desired (granted a few times by me) and other things. So if I head over to Thailand for 90 day holidays, no problem staying in a studio, but anything more than 2 weeks or so I will want a bigger size, 30 sqm at least.

Will tourism in Thailand ever recover? Will the Chinese, who were the first one shut out, return in the tens of millions like before? I do not think so. Thailand tourism was already declining, as they were choosing quantity over quality, and the lazy army was taking the easy route, not fixing any of the problems or issues plaguing the nation, such as the heinously toxic air, the famously dangerous highways, the scams, the immigration woes, the lack of expertise, english skills, great service at five stars, etc. etc. Nor, did they even consider tourism important enough to hire a competent Tourism minister, with experience in the field, as they went directly to the bottom of the barrel, and selected Pipat.

What can one even say? I expect they might get 11 million arrivals this year, if they stop the disingenuous habit of counting all passengers who transit through the nation, as tourist arrivals. Next year? The year after?

The reality is, that less tourists are better for us expats. But, millions of Thais will suffer, as they are dependent on tourism for their livelihoods. Just one more failure on the part of the army. Covid was just one element in this devastation of a once thriving industry.

I bet there will be a large switch to Cambodia.  Cambodia news has been pretty quiet on the scale of things

  13. Senior homes and nursing homes are death traps.  Putting all the sick and elderly or weak people in one building is a recipe for disaster.  Now of course many are weak and susceptible to illness and complications so one should expect a higher death rate compared to the general population.  But the maintenance and cleanliness of so many of them are highly suspect.  Most places are fairly tightly sealed for security reasons and to keep some of the mentally challenged people from wandering off. So that means more re-circulated air.  Filters are not maintained, air ducts have never been cleaned, etc.  Remember the Legionair disease issues back in the 70s.
