Don't like the look on the upper part of the tube - the discolored part. Looks like heat for sure.
Fork tubes should be straightened without heat so as to not draw the temper out of the steel.
A set of V blocks are cheap enuf, and a dial indicator the same.
As you have a spare set, check the old ones when you finished the swap.
Big pain in the culo tho' - but what U gonna do.
Fork seals need a careful hand to install straight and true. I have used PVC tubing before with good luck - cut lengthwise about 8-10cm, install on fork tube, tape together, give 'er a whack. Then they go on straight in line with the tube. Use lots of KY - OOppss - oil (What was I thinkin')
Good luck
Fortunately, all tooled up. Letting someone repair my bike after my off road accident Pre Covid was a desperate measure as I was immobile.

Paid for Moderna. Just been informed we will not receive it.

Upsidedown forks can sometimes be a problem but not always if the bike is left standing a long time.
In the show room we use to press the forks up and down every couple days.
You could check the fork oil level to see it's not overfilled.
If there new seals you can get fork seal cleaner there a plastic tool you can make one out of a plastic bottle.
After cleaning give the seals some time to bed in, if they continue to leak then change them.
While changing the seals you then check your new fork tubes for straightness.
Never heard of reheating tube to straighten them only re-chroming and re-grinding.
In accident repairs if bent I replaced them.
Yeah aware of standing and doing nothing not been good for the seals. But the bike is getting used and moved, just not long distance. Fortunately, I have a spare set of complete forks that I have just serviced. Will swap the upgraded springs. Will inspect stantions on the ones that cost me 40k to upgrade.

2500km ago, and just before the Covid breakout I had some work done on my bike following an off road accident. Normally, I do all work myself but at the time I was in a bad way.
The work included upgraded springs and seals and a new stanchion but already both seals are leaking. Since the on/off lockdown, I have done very little riding and despite my preference being off road, I have only done 4 gentle off road sessions, one extremely muddy. Most have been spent riding to a local coffee shop or to my office once or twice a month. I can accept the seals going as just unlucky. But this fork does not look like a replacement. While I know very slight bends can be heat treated and straightened, I paid for a brand new one, apparently.
As yet, any work I have had done by anyone other than myself has been disappointing.
What you reckon?

Yes
Done 200km on my KLX since I bought from a buddy a year ago. Transported by truck to the off road places I ride so does little to no road mileage. 2009, 250s only has 16k on it.

Is the 450 for sale road legal?
As mentioned yes. To make it legal and to EU regs, weighted damping has been included such as rubber sided main drive sprocket, exhaust damping to mention a few which have increased the weight. Obviosly, all this can be changed if someone wants to drop a few KG on the bike.

The 450RL uncorked is in a completely different league. You can't even compare the two bikes. If you are considering the pros and cons over each, you are probably a 300L type of guy because those who can ride a bike quick in dirt wouldn't even consider the 300L when the 450RL is available. Unless of course cost is the only dictating factor. Even then you wait a few years for the 2nd hand market and pick one up for 250K baht? Maybe less...
True, but for most the 250 would be enough. Agree, the potential is there for the 450 and a bike I would opt for. Suspension and frame to mention a few make it a better bike. As for service, for a bike that can take the hammer, 1000km and a rebuild at 30,000km is ok for me. All personal preference at the end of the day.

Pretty sure the 250 would be enough for most. My biker colleague has a CRF250l and changed the ECU to a CBR300 if I am not mistaken. Changing the suspension will definately make a difference. I upgraded my CRF1000 because of where I ride and my KLX had some work done prior before I bought it from a friend. But having said that it all depends what you intend to do. Steady trail riding and a little log hopping the suspension will do OK. Springs are pretty cheap for the CRF and KLX 250s. Little money for a decent gain.

Depends what you want to do on it. As well as my Africa Twin I have a KLX 250 which I use occasionally off road. When I first got on the 450 I was expecting similar power off road to my Africa Twin (Power to weight) but it didn't feel that much different to my KLX in 1st and 2nd. That being said the suspension is very good and will take a hammering if you want to do more technical stuff so long as you don't mind the service intervals. When I tested it there is no way it was the 40bhp version and it seems to be the 22bhp 23Nm which are similar figures to the 250 if not mistaken. The 300/250 is a decent road/trails bike but the suspension is pretty poor if you're over the 70kg mark. As I ride my Africa Twin off road pretty hard, for me the 450, opened up with a remap and exhaust (about 50bhp) would be ideal. It will do short tours and ideal for sticking on a truck to get to the places you really want to ride as I don't really tour that much on my AT now. It's expensive to replace parts as well. Plastics that easily crack etc.
The 1000km service and 30,000km rebuild might put some people off but it's not bad for a bike that can take some hammer.
But it is closer to the CRF450X that the 450R.
While fun, the Africa Twin is damn hard work in mud when you're alone.
Next test, Harley Adventure thingamabob!

While the debate is still out about it's power or lack of, I was invited to test ride it for a promo photo shoot for a Thai Website.
They couldn't confirm its spec other than to say it is the US spec but I though it was a little underpowered. With a few mods it will be a decent setup as the suspension and everything else was fine. 2nd gear a little snatchy though.
Ideal bike for me. Saves wrecking the fairing on my Africa Twin when I drop it.
Should be called a 450XL

You gotta laugh. Foreigners are often having a go at the Thais for blaming them for this that and the other. Here we have the Thais being the main culprits for letting foreigners see and replicate their actions.
Imagine in court. Why did you do it? I saw the Thais do it, so I wanted to copy them.Drunk or not, or when in Thailaind. The word 'Foreigner' increases the severity of this idiotic driver.

Hello,
Thinking of buying a 2nd hand ( used) Mercedes Benz in Bangkok. I’m looking for a reliable, honest experienced mechanic who can check it out thoroughly. Has anyone found/ used such a service in Bkk? Grateful for suggestions.
If you're still looking I can point you to a reputable dealer that offers inspection and a proper warranty. Believe it or not, there are some trustworthy second hand dealers.

start the engine (Africa Twin)
Put my boots, jacket, helmet, phone in clamp and gloves and good to go. Don't even think about it.

I recently sold my KIA carnival as it wasn't getting its intended use. And in exchange I decided to buy at the time a 2019 Mazda BT50 pro which I thought would be useful for the bike. Used twice for that purpose and if I am honest I have the ride and I am not looking forward to the school run from Min Buri to near the main Airport.
I am consideting a an S60 or V40 2013-2015. Prices are in thw region of 400-600k We already have a new CX-5 which the wife uses for work, and I have been through Honda and looking for something different
Any feedback on reliability, feedback and part here hete useful. Cars I have browsed typically have 80,000 to 100, 000km on the clock whichdn't be

I serviced and rode a friends 750 AT that was a V twin he was a farm owner.
Very basic from what I remember he abused it but it never gave in.
Is your friends AT the 1000 or the 1100. ?
1100. I have a 2017 and abused it. Not issues other than self inflicted from off road.

If you haven't experienced the fuel pump issues and tank rot on 2020 models and previous, there is now and ignition module issue being reported. In faulty units the motorcycle will not turn off even with key removed. Owners have had to disconnect battery. Some reports already in Thailand including a friend's who has had 3 issues in the short time of ownership. I did warn him about the new Iphone upgrades and display to the Africa Twin will be an issue. It is an AT not a GS.
My 2017 Africa Twin just keeps going in the meantime.

Agree about not bringing booze in from a shop. Personally I just find it rude. But, to take legal action against the guy is just crazy and if anything, their action may put future visitors off. Koh Chang? I lived their for a while and what a.....!
While not the same issue I had a problem with a expensive motorcycle boots which fell apart after 4 days riding. I knew about the defamation laws and when the shop refused an exchange or refund I spoke to consumer rights here. They told me I am within my rights to mention it online which I did. I got an immediate response from the dealer with threats against defamation and damage to their business to which I informed them I'd spoken to consumer rights (my wife did) with a reference number if they had a problem. My boots were replaced 2 days later and I agreed to remove the post once the boots had arrived. The new boots fell apart after 3 weeks!

I recently bought a 2019 Mazda BT50 for my bikes. Friend said stick B10 in it. Is it ok to do so as I read Mazda and others haven't yet approved the use of it? I stuck 500bht just to see how it ran and all was good. Stuck normal diesel in afterwards as I am not sure of the long term use of B10.
Anyone using it for their truck?
