  1. Renewal even!

Just looking for some advice in where best to obtain a new visa.

I'm presently on a marriage visa which is due for renewal. However, I made a boo boo with my funds (400K) by purchasing a motorbike which dropped funds a tad below the 400K mark for two days. I've been informed because of the inconsistency (which was only 2 days) I can not obtain another marriage visa until I leave the country. I have been advised to obtain a Non 'O'. However, Immigration told me to use the Non 'O' for 90 days before reapplying for my marriage visa. Am I missing something but is a Non 'O' not valid for a year. Can I not just use that for a year before applying for a marriage again?

This is the first time in 10 years that I will have to leave the country. Any advice on the best place to obtain a Non 'O' much appreciated (Married with a daughter)?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. ... Anyone want to buy my present CR-V .... only 80,000 km ... full service log (Honda) ... around Baht 550,000 ... have seen similar for Baht 600,000+ on secondhand websites. ...

Those +600k baht prices you are seeing are the sellers rather hopeful asking prices.

Mrs NL sold her slightly younger but similar mileage 'mint' CR-V about 6 months ago for 380 k baht from a chap supplying an Udon tent (it had Udon plates). Other tent outfits were offering her around 300 k cash with the car totally unsighted. They generally aren't interested in things like low mileage or a solid dealer service history like they are in the west. Pretty much anything greater than 5 years old is hard for them to shift due to the legacy of the repo surge after the 'first car buyer rebate' fiasco from a previous government. I recommend you pursue a private sale to get best price but I can't see you getting much more than 400 k baht for it. Good luck though.

Or you can buy my CR-V only 69K, New suspension and engine mounts (common prob) E85 converted, full service history and nearly new tires. 570K it is yours. Just bought a new Accord and need a pickup for my motorbike.

Other than that the little Mitsubishi eco car isn't bad. Bit of a dog but a good little car.

  3. Hi,

I have the Drift Ghost - S, Gopro Hero 4 and an SJ4000.

If your looking for something that is very easy to mount in a number of positions, tough and water resistant out of the box, the drift is by far the best for motorcycle use, As for other two, if price is an issue the SJ4000 is a steal.

Picture is marginally better on the Gopro, but there are too many positives for the Drift. We dropped our 20 ft from a tree onto rocks while filming bees. Not a mark on it!

Battery life on the drift nearly 3hrs, Gopro just over an hour if your lucky and the SJ4000 about 1hr 30mins.

Drift and Go Pro around 16k

    SJ4000 under 4k

We've just done a review at farangmoto of the 3 but as yet it hasn't been posted. There are plenty on youtube. check techmoan

  4. Micra_Logo2.jpg

Bangkok – April 22, 2015 – Nissan Motor (Thailand) is sending the first Nissan GT Academy Thailand Champion, Mr. Thanaroj “Babe” Thanasitnitikate, 19, to compete in the 2015 Nissan Micra Cup in Canada. This 5-month long racing opportunity will allow Thanaroj to get closer to becoming a professional car racer and a NISMO athlete, and is in line with the Nissan GT Academy’s objectives, as well as matching with Nissan’s brand DNA of “Innovation that excites.”

According to Mr. Prapat Choeychom, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales, Nissan Motor (Thailand), in 2014, Nissan introduced the Nissan GT Academy in Thailand, for the first time in ASEAN, to encourage virtual racers of Gran Turismo 6 on PlayStation 3 to win an opportunity to become a NISMO Athlete. This year, in addition to launching Season 2 of Nissan GT Academy, the company would like to take it up another level by supporting the first winner of GT Academy Thailand to reach his ultimate dream, competing in an international racing series, the Nissan Micra Cup 2015, which will be held from May to September 2015 in Quebec, Canada.

  5. We received this helmet a few weeks ago for testing and had high expectations. It's a good, but not great helmet.

    nexx_xd1_main.jpg

At present the market is pretty strong for dual sport helmets with manufacturers offering their own rendition of an off road, street design. Sales of dual sport motorcycles have increased, or street bikes with some trail riding capability so the demand does call for it. However, when manufacturers such as Shoei, Arai, Suomy and Icon who are all synonymous in their own right with off road and adventure helmets, it does leave other manufacturers just venturing into this market sector with a tough task to match!

Our new Nexx X.D1 arrived just 3 weeks ago – a Touratech clone and we've given it a 2,000 km plus test, but expectations were very high having personally owned the Nexx XR1R carbon. Despite a minor issue with the visor on XR1R model, the helmet itself was one hell of a shell! As for the new Nexx X.D1, many retailers and promoters are saying it is untouchable at this price rage. We’re hoping they’re right, as Nexx yet again have turned out a tasty looking lid!

This style of helmet will never be as stable as a street or racing helmet of course, but there are cheaper helmets that do a better job in our opinion.

  6. As a matter of interest I was pulled over by the police near Fashion Island, Minburi. I was in the left-hand lane until a taxi driver dropping a passenger off illegally in the brake down lane (call it what you will) putting the passenger in danger having to cross 2 lanes, pulled out without warning forcing me into the right-hand lane, i accelerated to avoid the car. I was flagged down 50mts away at a checkpoint and lectured for not being in the correct lane. I was then asked to cross a busy road section to go and pay the top-dog sat under the shade of the flyover bridge. I introduced him to my best friend, my wifi enabled action camera. He sent me on my merry way.

Regardless of the law, I ride knowing what is the safest for me without endangering myself or others. Fine or not!

  7. I'm looking to rent a house in the area close to Safari World/Fashion Island and I'm simply looking for a base to get my head down 2-3 days a week. I live in Bang Khea and the drive or ride home is killing me which has turned my day into a 17hr work day.

I've seen some nice places for as little as 9-10k 3 bed with community pool etc, but a house that is safe for my daughter is also essential. I've checked DD site and the problem is they are never updated as most are already rented out.

If anyone can point me to a site or know of a place worth trying it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

  8. ^Well, as I have the SJ1000, Mobius, Drift and Gopro I can disagree with you.

When played back on the pc or TV the Gopro is way above the others. I've always criticized the GoPro followers and I must confess to still not liking the look of it. But sound and picture is far superior.

But lets face it. The more you pay the gains decrease. It's the same with audiophile equipment. But the small gains can sometimes be well worth it.

  9. Anyway, the cheaper ones are a little unreliable in the event of an accident. When I've tumble off my bike, the SJ1000 has crashed the recording made unrecoverable. The Drift didn't and that took the harder knock.

But anyway, the video was for my friends and I, some who couldn't join regardless of how boring or unprofessional the video may be to some. It was simply put here in case anyone was interested in the GoPro 4!

  10. As good as the cheaper cameras are, they suffer terribly from jello affect at high speed, especially on a bike. Neither my Drift or Gopro have this. I agree about losing them and the cost, but I strap mine down in case it comes of the bracket. To be honest, the only reason for the purchase is I'm waiting for my AirDog to arrive, who have just since announced the Sony mini cam is compatible which I prefer. Th GoPro is for other projects and right now it is boxed up as I prefer the less obtrusive look of the Drift and mobius.

Incidentally, I dropped the Drift from a tree while filming some bees. It has gone flying off my bike when I came off when I was trail riding. I dropped it and kicked it under a car and there isn't a mark on it!

  11. For the tiny amount of difference in quality, I bought a 1080 sports camera (available for a number of suppliers) for £35 (about 1750baht) meaning I could and will buy 4 for the same moneyas the Hero and there is a reason for this.

Mounting a camera on the helmet makes for some pretty boring footage, but shooting from a number positions, including some vulnerable locations, can make for some exciting footage. Close to the ground will give a much greater sense of speed, close to a rotating tyre will give a greater sense of action, all tips I learned from a TV company I worked with a few years back.

When you come to editing the rushes you will have a lot more and varied footage to work with.

With great action footage the 2% loss in quality is, IMO, irrelevant.

You mean like at 17.57 on my video using the Mobius which is the same price as the SJ1000 which I have, but unfortunately the SJ100 are terrible when it comes to mounting them. Wheel action 22.26

Incidentally, this was my trip up in the Pajero using 4x SJ1000 cameras. I used Fat Gecko bracket but the cameras are cracking for the money. There's wheel and water action too.

I have the drift, a couple of the Mobius and a few Sj1000. After using the GoPro, despite its price, the small differences in picture and sound quality are well worth it.

The Drift is a much more positives, more useable and easily positioned in many places with it's rotatable lens and you don't look like a member of telletubbies when it's on your head, but I'm well chuffed with the GoPro!

Now all I'm waiting for is my AirDog.

  12. After about a 40 minute run we reached what is about the halfway point of the climb. The original plan was to go no further and take a chance on a right turn just before the water-crossing through the jungle which I spotted on my last trip here. Not knowing where it ventured to we took a chance rather than the steep climbs that lay ahead.

As we trailed through the arched jungle trees that formed a tunnel, I rode a narrow path with a drop to my left about 30-40ft into a rocky stream. Their wasn't enough room to put the stand down so I lay the bike on it's side on a banking as I didn't want to ride any further before inspecting the path ahead. We both decided it was too risky for these bikes and weight and decided to go back but their was no room to maneuver the bike, so we lay down on its side and spin it around before Luke was attacked by a Dtuar Thor Bee which are nasty big fookers. Luke in retaliation did what only can be described as an attack by a Morris Dancer on acid! I pissed myself when I saw the video. After a quick chat we decided to head back to the water-crossing to take on the rest of the climb!

    IMG_5370.jpg

Fortunately, the rainy season was over so the obstacle facing Luke was the shale and gravel with the limited grip he had, but taking things steady and a bit of team work we knew we could tackle it easily. After crossing a broken footbridge with mountainous and jungle views, we plodded on.

We continued for about 30 mins more. I plowed up the hills and through the gravel with ease. The MT60s really did their job and a massive improvement on the Scorpions. Luke was a little more apprehensive on his Dunlops. Letting out 10-12lbs of air helped but not much but he did a great job getting up, and more difficult, down.
We eventually reached the top after a good run from Bangkok and a 2 hour trip up the mountain with breaks. We were greeted by a few 4x4 enthusiasts and a couple who cooked us dinner and attended to Luke's bee sting. Dark was coming fast so we set up camp.

  13. This trip was also a comparison between the Gopro Hero4 silver and Drift Ghost - S built-in mic sound and picture quality.

On the way up the drift was used on the helmet while the Gopro caught the rear action. On the way down they were reversed.

With my new Gopro Hero 4 silver and a new set of Pirelli MT60s Corsa my friend and I decided to take another trip for me, but a first for him on his Dunlop Sportmax up Khao Krajom. We decided to camp for the night. The original plan was not to reach the peak but to take a right turn before the water-crossing not knowing where it would lead. After tackling the first section of bumpy rain carved mounds scattered with baked dust we reach a resting point and took a minute to enjoy the scenery before taking on the first ruble and rocky section.

  14. Spoke to ecu thailand and they tell me my ecu has to be sent to Italy. Forget that! More expensive than the PC5 by the time they've done!

believe me, dynojet pc5 with autotune is the way to go with O2 plug they provide. easier, heaper, flexible and you can do it by yourself, especially for a twin. this way you dont have to wait for an ecu going back and forth to Italy for a month and you can not use the bike during this time too.

but to be frank with you, for just a slip on, it does not worth the hassle or expense to buy a dynojet pc5 and autotune or an ecu flash so think about getting an aftermarket air filter and collectors, mid pipes and make your slip on a full system, not hard and expensive and this way you get a powerful, smoother bike and you can create different maps for different usages anytime and autotune is there to adjust the maps after each mod.

Is there a stockist in Thailand, or an ebay revzilla type job?
