  1. I use a Drift-Ghost S because it's the monkey's nuts and I don't look like a member of teletubbies with a GoPro on my head!

The Drift S out performs the GoPro for battery life and Image. I have both but I've stopped using the GoPro. The screen and remote is very handy for setting up and it connects well to my S5 phone, although some have had problems. In fact, before I bought the Drift, I stopped using the GoPro in favour of a mobius as I looked so hideous with a brick mounted to a scaffolding pole to my head.

GoPro is a great camera as far as image goes but it's about time they redesigned it. However, GoPro has a cliche following so I'm sure they'll disagree.

PS. I'm getting a little over 3 hours with my drift.

  2. Hi Folks,

I went through the process a month ago at the Trendy Office Building to renew my passport. The lady dealing with me told me to wait between 6-9 weeks which is fine, however, I was expecting being the British Embassy they would have deducted my account by now.

Roughly, how soon after was your account charged?

    Cheers

Unfortunately, something has definitely gone wrong with your application - your credit card should have been debited by HMPO Liverpool within 3-4 days of application.

Phone the HMPO UK Helpline (Skype works fine) now - they are pretty useless, but will at least be able to confirm if you are in the system.

    Damn it!

I assumed with the huge backlog there would be delay (6-9 weeks Trendy Office said) I'm in my 4th but expected my account to be debited by now. Got to wait 72 hours for a call back.

Mmmm, there have several posts in this thread reporting that HMPO helpline promised to get back within 72 hours and didn't - don't hold your breath.

The fact that the HMPO helpline couldn't find any record of your application after you presumably provided them with your full name/dob/place and date of application, plus your home address is worrying to say the least.

You should email Newport at [email protected] and see if they can help throw any light on your application.

Did you get a DHL tracking code from trendy, have you checked that your application was in fact delivered and as to who at Liverpool accepted the package?

Perhaps worryingly for you, the average current delay from application to passport collection is now working out at 10 weeks plus, so add your lost weeks, take off a week for delivery/initial processing and you are looking at maybe 13/14 weeks start to finish.

Hope this is not a disaster for you.

btw - welcome to the train wreck, I was relatively lucky since my application only took 9 weeks, this was after the British Embassy in BKK intervened - I ended up safe, just 1 day away from overstay, many have not been so fortunate.

Thanks for the reply and info. It's not a disaster just a big inconvenience as my passport is full and I resign from my job in October, so I'm counting on it arriving before then so I can obtain my new visa as my pages are full at the moment. I wonder, baring in mind my passport is still within date, the embassy could issue me with something in the meantime until my new passport arrives?

I guess I need ti speak to them in Bangkok.

  5. Just bought one of these 2 days ago. Fantastic helmet in my opinion.

    caberog%20tourmax%203.JPG

Caberg helmets have been on the scene for 40 years and are well known for producing quality helmets that defies its price range. Being a popular helmet among adventure riders, Caberg yet again seems to be defying the helmet market when it comes to quality VS price with its dual sport flip-up helmet. But has the Caberg Tourmax flip-up adventure helmet yet again set another standard in price, safety and the feature market?

    Go Anywhere

Adventure style helmets have a certain look about them. Almost future military look with a bit of sporty coolness! If you’ve ever been ‘Master Chief’ you’ll know what I’m referring to. They’re rugged looking yet maintain the sports styling. They suggest there’s a hardcore rider tucked inside just waiting to leave the tarmac at every opportunity. But the styling of enduro/adventure type helmets serve more than the purpose of looks alone, they are designed to take you places way beyond the black stuff, out of the mad rush and into the rough and the beauty of winding country roads, should you desire it.

  8. I apologise for sounding totally dim, but I understand the link is on the government site for the forms etc, but does one have to make a request via email to the Trendy Building for an appointment. If so, where is the available email adress. The links provided are only for the forms etc. Am I missing something?

The application appointment email address is on the Web Page I linked you to.

    [email protected]

Trendy are the HMPO's forwarding agents for passport applications, so you need to make the appointment with Trendy.

Cheers, one of those days today.

It is not possible to walk in and make an apointment? Reason I ask i'm right next to it.

  9. Can anyone advice of my situation.

My passport is full, and within the next 2 months I will be leaving my job, and subsequently my visa will need to be changed. I have no pages left and I'm concerned about the time it will take to renew my passport. I read a 12 month extension will be granted in some cases, but my passport isn't due for renewal, it is full. I am concerned as I will be leaving leaving my Job as I change in October.

I'm concerned about the visa issue.

    Married with child.

    Any advice much appreciated.

  10. I need to change to a non O as mentioned in the title as I will be leaving my Job soon. I have the income to prove and savings to show as required, I'm married and have a daughter, but my question is about using an agency to deal with the transfer.

Has anyone used an agency to handle the work? For me, it is just the time and hassle which I wish to avoid. Lazy, I know, but I'd rather put my time elsewhere.

    Thanks In advance

  11. If anyone is considering a Versys or similar, here is a Thai based review on and off road.

Kawasaki Versys - Farangmoto Test Ride

The Kawasaki Versys has received global recommendations and has become a popular model in Thailand. The 650cc versatile bike has also been described as a road bike with off road capability. As it stands, the Versys isn’t setup for off road straight from the dealer. But with a few modifications the Versys will make a capable off road bike for moderate use. Our test will be with the 2013/14 Kawasaki Versys in standard form, both on and off road.

    Features and Comfort

The parallel twin 650cc Kawasaki Versys isn’t kitted out for touring as such. It lacks any accessory ports for GPS et cetera which have become the norm for many bikes. It also lacks switchable ABS which is a must for anyone wanting to venture off road. And it requires a bracket mod for a rear touring box. But the reality is not many people will venture off road with this bike, and the ones that do know the extras will require a few more notes to set the bike up.

Bangkok. The countdown is on in Brazil and soccer fans are gearing up for the biggest global sporting event of the year. Jerseys and flags are in huge demand but one question remains: what will be the car of choice for celebrating fans from mid June? MINI is sure to strike from outside the box with its homage to the beautiful game: the MINI Paceman GoalCooper.

  13. Ducati have reduced the price of the Multistrada to around 850k for the 1200s. I saw the Honda crosstourer but didn't get the price. Looked ok, just a bigger verion of the 500x with the technology.

The prices of the BMW i think is way too high despite the reduction. The 116i at 1.79 -1.99 is crazy when you consider the price in the UK, and the UK is quite high too.

You don't realize that there's actually a big difference between a 'full-face helmet' (which incorporates the entire range of that type of helmet) and a 'racing helmet', which is a specific niche of small, light, and usually quite noisy helmets meant specifically for the track and made for maximum efficiency when worn in a full-tuck, and lacking most creature-comforts seen in more street-oriented helmets, and is generally meant to be worn for an hour or less at a time (though some people use them as their regular street helmet)- an example would be the Shoei X-12.

Helmets like the popular Shoei RF line or new GT-Air are geared specifically to offer a full field of vision, excellent venting, and other features to make it comfortable for all-day touring, and the nature of its shell shape makes it a poor choice for racing- they can, in fact, be worn in LOS quite comfortably, and offer about the best impact protection you can get in a helmet.

    Not according to sharp http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/testhelmetlist?sharp-make=133&sharp-model=GT+Air+&sharp-type=All&sharp-rating=1&discontinued=1

AGV, BELL and Caberg, HJC and Shark come out top as far as impact protection is concerned and half the price of Shoei in some cases. Shoei, Arai and Shubert are nowehere to be seen. Not saying they aren't good, I have a Shoei and Nexx XR1R, but I wouldn't bu y another.

OP, if you're looking for a helmet based of safety look at HJC etc. If you want styling, graphics and brand the passes regulations then look at Shoei etc.

The priority is to make sure the helmet fits properly. A top rated but poorly fitted helmet is no good. Wear it in the shop for a good 15mins plus if you can to make sure it is comfortable and make sure it does't move from side to side or tips front to back too much.
