  1. I think its worth remembering that just because something is branded with an English name, doesn't mean to say the quality is the same, in the past I have bought ostensibly English tea that has no doubt come from a bona fide source but just doesn't match the quality of tea bought in England.

  2. Can I obtain Nembutal or Seconal in Thailand? If so, where can I get them?

If you have or know how to get them, please please send a message. Thank you very much.

"Living on reds, vitamin C and Cocaine" :D

Nice work if you can get it......dream on :o

  3. Don't get the Brother '3 in 1' if you want to use refill inks. Brother machines can only use Brother inks, at a price of course. Otherwise the head clogs up and they gleefully tell you at the Brother repair centre that they can't do anything and that you're the third this week with the problem.

(Any one want to buy a Brother '3 in 1', used for one month only, but has a clogged printer head? )

However, I can recommend a Canon '3 in 1' . The ink cartridges are easy to get to and refill and the printhead is accessible too. It's a good general purpose home use machine. I find the scanner easy to use and of good quality, even my 8 year daughter can use the copy facility for school work with no problem.

    Same Same :o

and anyway Brother are a 'me too company' copying the big boys at the likes of Canon and Panasonic, check out the cheapo returns at Lotus mostly Brother (never buy any of these cheapos!).

  4. I had a Brother all in one with ink jet printing, I was paying about 400bht a month to fill the ink tanks as it has to self clean every little while which uses ink and when it runs out of ink nothing works.

So I would say no to a colour inkjet unless you have a lot of money.

This is actually why printers and the like can be so cheap so they can stitch you up with ink refills.

  5. Speaking of Shady characters, what's the story with those English guys on the Beach road, there are girls trying to pursuade farangs into going to Jomtien for time share or something, these guys are hovering in the shadows like Vultures.

Who are they, Why do the hide, Are they working ilegally ?

They certainly put a lot of people off, are they agents also?

Time share salespeople are the most famous intrusive and unethical group of people worldwide ruining many peoples holidays from Tenerife to it would appear Thailand, with their constant harrassment.

Whatever the merits of timeshare the sales methods are renowned worldwide and the vendors usually employ the farang youth trying to get a holiday job (i.e.stay in holiday country) wherever and have no ethics or reason to be honest or even polite, they just have to get the punter to the sales pitch to earn.

    Walk on by! :o

  6. Out of four items I have sent to Thailand three from UK and one from Australia using ordinary mail, only one arrived, others including a DL envelope with one sheet of paper in it, did not.

If you must, try and address envelope in Thai and/or send to a Thai name.

  7. The fact is in many third world societies the concept of providing good service in order to auger further business is completely alien. The only thing that occurs to the service vendor is obtaining the most baht for the least cost in time or other investment.

This happens world wide and is not unknown in so called developed economies.

Samui is a very special place indeed, its people are a breed apart and regard themselves as a race apart. They show distain for even fellow Thais so a farang stands no chance of getting any genuine 'respect' when it comes down to the nitty gritty.

I know of a Thai Chef from Bangkok who went to work in a hotel of quality in Samui, but was forced to leave because his underlings questioned why a Bangkok person should be ordering them about because they were true Samuians.

    The Samuins killed his dog.

Having said that all this must add to the unique charcater and delight of Samui which I so far love, having not quite become intimate enough with it to merit being blown away by the local mafia!!!!

  8. i know it is abit of a never ending spiral, but the prices of flat screens are on the way down , on Bloomberg recently it said the fourth quarter factory gate price of LCD/Plasma screens, had fallen by the biggest quarterly fall on record in the fourth quarter of 2005.

I would hang on in there for a while, I would never have dreamed of paying GBP1000 for a TV in my life before so I am trying my best not to get 'sold up' now, especially when compared with a 29" F/s @ 10,000 bht incredible value and 34" for around 30,000bht. 100,000 bht does not seem in the ball park to me.

  9. www.jib.co.th had only 3 external hard drives.

    Any other websites?

    Any Macintosh dealers in Pattaya?

    Harry,

You buy a bog standard hard drive and put it in what they call on JIB an 'external box'. So Check hard drives then check 'external boxes'.

  10. Hey guys

I have to lose some weight and get fit, not excessively overweight just need to reduce and tone up slightly.

Need to do it within next month!! :D

Swim 800 metres a day. gentle way to get fit. :o

  11. ~

My HP Laptop has two USB1 ports but of course they are grindingly slow.

I am seeking a pcmia card with USB2 output and have checked the computer centers at the NW corner of the moat and on the super hiway and Pantip Plaza with no success.

If any of you see one somewhere in CM, please let me know, okay?

    Thanks in advance...

You have to check that your PCMIA bus is 32 bit and not 16 bit as older laptops will be. A 32 bit or cardbus PCMIA card will not work in a 16 bit machine .

As I found out when I bought same on Phitsanulok for 900bht, will sell it for 500bht if you're interested, as it does not work in my IBM 240 Thinkpad.

  12. jobs are not easy to get on samui as such and especially not for such a short period of time.

to work legally in thailand you need a work permit, cannot think of any company who would issue that for only two months :o

why would you like to work here? just relax and enjoy :D

Especially as you are unlikely to get paid enough to make it worth working!

  13. This is probably 2nd to spyware and firewalls for most frequently asked question in here. Could someone who knows alot about free sms to/from Thailand post a short definitive write up on it so I can pin it up?

Sorry to ask but free sms is something I just don't deal with.

    Thanks

    cv

Having spent much of the last three months researching and trying many leads towards 'free sms' to/from thailand , I have come to the conclusion that despite the fact that some people have the odd success in sending free sms , including myself, the sensible route to go is to find a reasonable reliable and cheap sms provider , and one of the forerunners is www.ipipi.com , priced from US$7.50 for 50 to US$99 for 1000 sms messages, and works with AIS, Orange and TAC networks.

If there was a straightforward consistent and reliable way to send 'free' sms I am quite sure we would all know about it and be using it, propagated by thaivisa.

  14. I don't venture out to Pattaya very often, but every now and then I do get the urge for a proper full English breakfast. This was the case on Sunday and I decided on going to Shenanigans for an Irish breakfast for the grand sum of Baht 150. Value wise I can't complain, two fried eggs, two rashers of bacon, two Irish herb sausages, toms and baked beans, two slices of toast with butter/jam and a coffee. (HP sauce too!)

Got me thinking, is there anywhere else that serves up a better Breakfast around the Beach Road area?

    :o

Lek Hotel second Road full works help yourself buffet 95bht. By the Pool.

    A legend in Pattaya.

  15. We are off to Ko Samui in April for two weeks.

Going to be with wife  ( Thai ) and daughter, what of the beaches will best suit us to stay on ??

And any hotel ideas would be good ????? Prepared to pay from 600 upto 2000 baht per night or

    Thanks in advance

Chaweng beach in my opinion is pretty unbeatable worldwide, its a great beach with a good selection of bars on the beach many of which serve you food and drink 'thai style'on kind of raised tables you sit on with cushions and bolsters to lean on. Magic especially at dusk, plenty of happy hours.. I also stayed in Lamai OK place but beach pretty dead , I think boring would be a good word,

In Chaweng I stayed at chaweng gardens beach hotel , big selection of types of accomodation with pretty luxy aircon bungalows for around 900 bht. It is in a great position in the very centre of town on the beach, it is therefore not very 'quiet' with distant bass sounds til 2am, ( Thailand in general I find not very quiet).

    email: [email protected] (I think).

In Lamai I stayed Lamai inn ,99, on the beach, in the centre of town also very diverse accommodation within your price range search google: lamai inn. Was a good quality place to stay however building work next door last November, Noise!
