  1. In the latest edition of PC World (October) they tested free antivirus programs. Here is the result summary (you should read the details to get a more nuanced view of course):

    Avira AntivVir: 92 Superior

Alwil Avast AntiVirus Home Edition: 91 Superior

AVG 8.5 free: 86 Very Good

Microsft security essentials: 86 Very good

PC Tools antivirus free edition: 69 Fair

    Comodo Internet Security: 68 Fair

I used AVG before, but now I changed to Avira to test it out.

Read lab reports over journalistic reviews. Virusbulletin or AV-Comparatives are among the better known.

Been using AVG Free for 6 yrs now and I'm happy with it. Doesn't slow down the system, I tried Nod 32 but...no thanks.

  2. I agree and think MR Laopo should stop this childish behaviour towards howard.

We are all human and allowed to lose our cool from time to time.

To continually bicker or pick faults with someone, Is somewhat infantile jmho.

It's not about losing OUR control once in a while. We are no police volunteers, losing temper and using foul language. Basta!

Sometimes it's not nice to read the truth. :)

Agree. Howard Miller and his mob...what a clown. :D

  4. My Maxnet 2MB Premier has been iffy all day, and finally gave up the ghost around 5 p.m.

It has been down ever since (it's now 10.15 p.m.).

I've never known it down so long, and I have had to use my AIS Edge all evening.

    The phone line is fine.

Monty told me earlier that his was still running but very slow.

    Anyone else down 100%?

My Maxnet Premier 3/1 was down 99% for 12 hrs, could rec.mail, nothing else, called the new call center No. 1530 and they said We call u back...never happend...went to careFour office and asked <deleted> is going on...25 min.later my Internet was back at normal speed.

  5. I think that they should all wear liederhosen (sp).

    Lederhosen:

that would be funny and harmless although the Brits, Dutch, Scandinavian, French, Spaniards etc. would associate them with Germans (Bavarian) which would lead to aggression; not a good idea.

Police Volunteers ? YES:................Thai ! - friendly (older) male-female couples dressed in friendly colours and speaking some English.

    No foreigners.

....we all know that FTPA, from an earlier poll, that 75% of the voters here on TV don’t want you in Pattaya. Must be an unpleasant feeling that you’r not wanted.

  6. Where Really is this pic taken.?

in the background you can see buddha hill, so its not looking towards north pattaya or beach road..

In the original post of this pic it states

"This shot was taken at the junction of where Beach Road, "Walking Street" and Pattaya Tai meet......1968"

But this can not be correct.. if it is correct Where is pattaya Tai?

with the view of buddha hill it kind of looks like its looking up walking street.

but that doesnt explain what looks to be a road going to the right?

If it is buddha hill in the background it means that this pic is taken in walking street which would tally up as in 1968 second road would be a dirt track without shops etc yet?post-36578-1244183954_thumb.jpg

Walking street. Part of the old email going around few years now with two pics on it. Walking street in -68 and -08...

    Not Walking Street. It's Naklua.

Naklua soi 5 on the right.

  7. How about this?

Looks like Naklua Road with on the right side the 'old' Naklua Market.

The tree in the middle of the road is still there.

    But it's just a guess.

    Naklua today.

On the left side the 'old' Naklua Market.

  8. just got a call from a resident of Dongtan Beach who said there was a gang fight at lunchtime on the edge of the car park between what appeared to be two small gangs of beach traders/sellers. Apparently two were left seriously injured (unconscious) and taken by their friends to hospital. The locals said it had been brewing over the last couple of days. I can't see any information on the news services but no reason to doubt that this was a true story.

Happends every day in Pattaya. :)

  9. I'm using Maxnet and its great.. I think my speed is 5MB, 1,000 baht a month approx.

    No it's not. U got 2mb/1mb and it's 1090 Baht/m + VAT. TT&T Maxnet premier.

Never had any probs, steady dl at approx.1700/kbps...24/7.

  10. We are looking to go out tonight in Pattaya and have done Songkran already elsewhere. Not looking to do it again until next year.

Will they be throwing water on Walking street and other places in Pattaya tonight? (Friday)

If youv'e done Songkran already and your'e not looking to do it again untill next year, then i've got news for you, your in the wrong city as the official Songkran water throwing starts tomorrow and ends Monday.I think you need to go out wearing waterproofs if you wanna stay dry! :o

    nope...ends late Sunday.

  11. I'm looking into Maxnet too as it sems a lot cheaper than True.

However, one thing that puts me off is that when I dial their 1103 number, it asks me to press 9 for English, then when I do, what do I get? Thai, of course! Now if they can't even set their phone system up properly, it begs the obvious question ...

Go for the Premier pack 2MB/1MB....1090 Baht/m plus 7% VAT.

  12. I need someone to get a loan for 2 weeks approx 80k baht to pay for my purchase of a plot of land. As i have wired some funds in from Hong Kong has gone stuck in some rubbish holding bank of the Bangkok Bank and the banks are giving me a hard time delaying my access to MY money.

Its fustrating as my deposit will be forfeited if i fail to produce the full amount . I am willing to pay intrest up to 10% of the full loan amount.

I need to know if there are any avenues available in bangkok i can get access to the funds. I own a condo and a car but the banks are not willing to give short term loans plus the processing time is too long for me. I do have pay slips from my company which proves i have an income of more than 120K Baht / mth.

Anyone know where i can get such a loan .

    Thanks for replies

    yeah...nice try ...mate. :o

  13. If you read some of my past posts you'll see where I stand on the FTPA's--They do a great job on WS and probably the FTPA in this thread made a silly choice, but at least he was helping someone and thought he was doing the right thing--as any citizen should do. So that makes me think about the absolutely slanderous words and really bad comments on this thread and others like it (ie: about Condos, Restaurants, certain bars etc etc) worries me.

A lot of people know that Thailand has very harsh slander/libel laws and any person (Thai or Farang) can take a case to the Courts very easily with the right evidence. This evidence can be hearsay, direct slanderous words, emails, photos and myriad of other evidence. A lot of the posts on Thai Visa and other forums (which happened once or twice last year) are extremely slanderous and even if most posters are unknown (hiding behind their forum names) technology can find them, but if not, Thai Visa (or other forums) can also be held accountable (according to the current libel laws) for actually allowing these comments to be posted on a public site (I know this from experience a few years back when someone tried to ridicule and bad mouth my business on WS on another forum). So the recent thread on this subject, the stopVT7 and associated threads, just to name two of the more recent threads are enough evidence for the Thai Courts.

So maybe it's time for all the forums to really monitor the nastiness, innuendos, hatred etc on all the threads before one of them is actually taken to court either by an individual, entity or Company using copies of the threads as evidence. Maybe rule changes for forum posters are in order. I would venture to say that probably over 95% of posters/readers on Thai Visa and other forums are here to garner information and have a good read or laugh, not read derogatory threads (my opinion of course). Anyway I've had my say and hopefully it may lead to some changes.

Hopefully Thai Visa may take this post as as a legitimate grievance against some of the venom that is written these days.

    Thank you...Thainet.

    Bla...bla...bla...FTPA member...right? :o:D
