  1. I've been looking at these eco cars and just placed an order for a Mitsubishi Attrage GLS. I got it for 500k plus free insurance and a bunch of freebies. The spec is equal to most of the others costing 600-650k. A good looking and economical car. Give it a look.

And you have had it now for a short while. Your feedback? I am on the fence between yours and Almera.

I've only had it a few days but i am still really pleased with the car. Nice smooth ride, comfortable seats, huge boot and i think it looks great especially in the red or blue. I still think it's the best car upto 500,000 baht. If you are spending upto 600-650k then others come in play like the Swift or Yaris or City.

  3. Well the mystery is over. They are not building a supermarket in Jomtien. It's going to be a La Baquette French bakery and Coffee shop, same as the one in Naklua. I can't see the business model around that. It must be costing at least 50 million baht to build the place. They are advertising for 30+ staff. How much profit is there in passing trade for baguettes and coffees?

  4. I may be cutting it all a bit fine with the recent Bangkok troubles but, if I was to present myself and my documentation personally at the UK Embassy in Bangkok, will they still process the letter for next day personal collection?

What about the Austrian consulate here, as mentioned earlier in the thread? Avoiding the riots and traffic seems an excellent reason to try them, and the lower cost cant be bad either.

That was my plan but I just re-read the thread that specifically mentioned the local Austrian legation and someone was told by them that they only do this service only for Austrians and Germans although a Dutchman claimed success more recently.

<edit... just re-read and it's available to Austrians, Germans AND Brits>

    At ease!

As a Brit i will try the Austrian Embassy at my next renewal. I think their fee is around 1600 which saves nearly 1,000 on the Key Visa option (which is very good i might add).

  5. It's just one of the things you have to accept about thailand. But really it could happen anywhere, people get mugged in the UK all the time. Also the Police in the UK wouldn't care about a stolen mobile phone, or burglary for that matter. You have to look after yourself.

  6. Well Honda made the decision easy for me. I went looking to order an Amaze. They wouldn't give me a discount. They wouldn't give me free insurance. They wouldn't give me any freebies. They wouldn't even let me try a test car. I went to Mitsubishi. They gave me a 30,000 baht discount, free insurance, a dozen freebies and had a test car available. Order went to Mitsubishi. I am happy with new car within a week.

  7. If you live in Bangkok ( maybe Pattayasmile.png ) buy an auto, if you live up country buy a manual.

What is better spec about the Mitsu?

Have you driven both? Some CVT's are just that. Others although mechanically CVT have fixed shift points so are more like a regular 5 speed auto.

Check for the spare tire before you leave the dealership. On some Eco cars it is an option!

Need a tie breaker? Buy from the nearest dealership.

I was Amazed (pardon the pun) at the level of spec on the Mitsubishi GLS, and it's not even top of the range. Compared to the Honda it has keyless entry, push button engine start, full automatic a/c, front fog lights, bigger boot, bigger tyres (and nicer alloys), signal indicator on the side mirrors, which move electronically. Plus an LCD screen on the dashboard. Plus a CD player (no the Honda doesn't have one).

I considered the Yaris but for a similar spec it's MUCH more expensive than the Mitsubishi.

  8. Going to buy a car in the next few weeks and with a budget of @ 500,000 i've decided between the Amaze or the Attrage.

The Amaze 1.2 V auto is 521,000 and Mitsubishi have offered the 1.2 GLS CVT for 500,000. The Mitsubishi has the better spec and is cheaper but the Honda is a Honda and has the better 4 cylinder engine with 90 bhp vs 79 bhp, Difficult choice. Anyone had experience of either car, which one might be better.

Also i'm not sure about getting an auto. I've always used manual gearboxes so why pay an extra 40,000 baht for an auto. They give less power and use more fuel. But in Thailand is it expected that a car has an auto. If i wish to sell later would the auto be more desirable.

    Any thoughts welcomed.

  9. I was rather disappointed when i saw it, not the great movie it's hyped to be.

When i can't understand is in this age of satellites, drones, attack helicopters etc how a few rag heads in a speedboat can highjack modern liners. I mean one sniper at the back of the ship could have taken out those 4 high jackers before they got within 1/2 mile of the ship.

Merchant ships tend not to have snipers as part of the crew wink.png

The cost of posting a sniper on dangerous trips like this would be much less than paying ransoms to pirates. The US army must have thousands of trained snipers sat around doing nothing. Why have an army (costing $700 billion) if they can't protect American property and lives.

  10. The trouble is that most Thais tend to think that their junk furniture is a thing of beauty.

We looked at a house recently where the owner told us delightedly that he had a house for sale in a nice part of CM.

He described it as big and spacious with a great garden and close to everything.

The way he described it I was expecting to see a brand new house with mod cons and manicured garden.

When we arrived it was about 10 to 15 years old. Had been empty for a year, the garden full of meter high weeds and the inside full of cobwebs, dirt, some rising damp, flaking paint, missing hot water units in showers,.. and the kitchen which he said he'd had specially put in was an empty add on room at the back with no benches and just a tap sticking out of the wall. It was 12kmlm to the nearest shopping center and about 3klms off the beaten track.

Here's the thing though,.. after showing us around it with a delighted look on his face he turned to my wife and said "Suay Mai?" (beautiful yes?) at which I was almost flabbergasted. He truly thought he was showing us something that we'd be falling in love with at first sight.

It had potential but realistically he was asking at least 700,000 baht more than it was worth given all the work that needed doing but try telling him that!

I wouldn't in a pink fit attempt to ever show a property like that and expect a favorable result.

Goodness only know how their minds work with such things!

This post strikes a cord with almost everything in Thailand.

Especially second hand cars. They try to sell a pile of junk with 100k on the clock and price it like it's a new car.
