  1. Well chaps for us in Thailand next season we will have to go back to the drivel of the Thai Saint and Grevesve show next season for the EPL on UBC supersport. Found this article and it seems UBC will take over the rights in Thailand. It seems ESPN/STAR will cover all the other countries in the region besides Thailand.

    Bummer, me thinks

Premiership football has been responsible, among other phenomena, for bidding wars in the Far East, for an Icelandic executive jumping on a plane to London to beg to be allowed to bid for rights, and for match analysts in Argentina breaking into Beatles' songs during play. Every time George McCartney plays for West Ham (all of whose games are now live in Argentina, since Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano signed), Argentine commentators are keen to remind viewers he has two Beatles' names rolled into his, which provides the perfect excuse for singing the group's numbers.

The bidding wars in Asia and elsewhere started when the League put its next foreign rights out to tender last September. Some 450 interested parties were involved, generating bids from 130 entities covering 208 countries. In all, 81 separate deals have been done, all concluded directly between the League and broadcasters, allowing the League to tailor coverage (for example supplementary magazine shows featuring local players) to local needs.

The smallest deal was Fiji TV buying the rights for Fiji (population 900,000), Vanuatu and a few other small Pacific islands, while the biggest was ESPN Star's deal for pan-territory rights ranging from Macau and the Maldives to India and Pakistan. Other major deals include C-more Entertainment buying rights for Scandinavia, and Showtime winning the rights from ART in the Middle East.

The League is reluctant to provide details on what any broadcaster pays, but there are huge variations above and below the average £7m for each of the 81 deals. Little nations may pay in the low six figures. Multination deals run to tens of millions. The most valuable per capita deals were done in the "hot spots" of South-East Asia, Scandinavia and Africa.

In Thailand, it took six rounds of bidding for UBC, a pay TV operator, to wrest the rights from ESPN Star. In Hong Kong, the pay TV operator PCCW outbid I-Cable by paying a reported £10m, in a territory of only seven million people.

  2. So what happens if you apply on the basis of being married to a Thai and she dies, do they revoke the residency? Anyone know?

As far as I know, they don't reassess your status once you've got it. That's the big advantage of PR.

    Thanks for the reply Camreata.

Yeah your probally right, just checking. Also u never know here do you? TIT :o

The difference is 100,000 baht and i would rather pay the extra knowing that if something does happen to my wife (God forbid) i would still be able to remain here.

It's 100K if you are married. It's the same rate if you apply in the "business" category and are married. You only pay 200K if you are single.

I mean that the difference of 100,000 baht when applying for work cat and married to Thai cat.

As i said, i would rather pay 195,000 for the work cat than 95,000 married to a Thai Cat with the knowledge that they could not revoke, if something happens to the missus.

    Once again cheers

  3. Top of the list (seriously) is going to watch City – the whole package of beer in the pub with brothers & mates, the game, the atmosphere, the witty comments, the football, etc – even the wife likes it and she’s been home and away in three divisions. Really miss the newspapers, especially on a Sunday. Walks in the countryside, and walking in general. Now I’m struggling to think of something else.

I agree with Bred for a change :o

Its the only bloody thing i about England.

I still have my season ticket and i send money home every year to keep renewing it even though i dont think i will live in England again. When i go home every summer i always get in a couple of matches. As Bred wrote, its the getting up on Saturday and having a few beers. Also smelling the hot dogs and burgers when walking to the ground. Even though the atmo is not the same at grounds it still gives me a buzz when i go. Bring back standing i say. As a few have pointed out though already, i would not give up my life in Thailand, no matter how much i love Utd.

  4. the lady told me three years of tax returns are needed. The amounts differ depending on your 'status' so to speak.

I believe the 80k requirement is only under the category of 'Work'. My application will be based on the category of 'Expert' and that requirement is not necessary to meet as with category of 'Married to Thai national'. And three years of tax returns is correct.

    Hi,

I went for it a few years back but didn't earn enough per month. I earn over 80k now so could apply on the work category or apply for the married to a Thai category.

So what happens if you apply on the basis of being married to a Thai and she dies, do they revoke the residency? Anyone know?

The difference is 100,000 baht and i would rather pay the extra knowing that if something does happen to my wife (God forbid) i would still be able to remain here.

    Cheers,

  5. For any sportbuff out here, the best choice is to get an installation which receives the South African Multichoice network. They have 8 sportchannels (SS1 - SS1) and also ESPN and the likes.

Simply any sporting event from around the world is shown on them!

Official subscribtions are obtainable through Jsat and www.satthai.tv

Both company's also have alternative ways of receiving these channels, but this comes obviously without any guarantees (see also the Dynasat thread on this forum)

    Thanks Monty for the reply.

I know about the South African feed and i can get that through Jsat. You have to pay a yearly sub fee though.(Any one any ideas how much) I want to pay the one fee that Jsat offers and be done with it. (Dream tv and whatever)

I like other sports but as i said in my earlier thread my main sport is the EPL. I would prefer to just get the feeds to the EPL from ESPN and Starsports. I have checked the Jsat site and they do offer ESPN and Star but there feeds are from countries(Philippines etc) where the EPL is not as popular as South East Asia and may not show it.

I am clued up on what Jsat offer but i was wondering if there is indeed an alternative ESPN and Starsports feed where they do show the EPL on Jsat.

Any one shed any light on this

    Cheers

  6. Has anybody got Jsat tv who can give me some feedback.

I have checked the website and it seems to be an alterative to UBC. You pay one fee for the Sat equipment and get lots of channels.

I need to have my fix of English Premier League football and as far as far i can gather i can get ESPN and Star sports from the Philippines (Dream TV) and this does not show the EPL. They also have ESPN India and StarIndia and am also not sure if they show the EPL.

Most of the channels from Jsat are the same as UBC 9Movie channels, discovery etc) but from different countries so i think its a good choice.

Any feedback would be very welcome.

  7. yeah yeah lets blame Utd

Face facts England were not good enough to win the world cup

    FACT

Decisions go for you and aganist you and that is football

    Get over it

i hear this a lot 'get over it'

of course everybody will get over set backs but this is a very shallow statement without passion, when you care about something of course you want to air your views and comments and it makes for interesting reading.

i would suggest people who like to write 'get over it' get a life and some interests, and you are right england were not good enough, so why not ask the question why were we not good enough given the players we had.

there are some interesting views and comments not all the same and that is what makes good reading and light hearted comments help 'get over it'

well hear it again GET OVER IT

I shall indeed go and GET A LIFE AND GET SOME INTERESTS just for you :o

We were not good enough cos as usual we had no balls. As always we had the players but as usual they lacked the passion so when the English team show some passion then just maybe, i will.

    GET OVER IT

    club before country always

  8. yeah yeah lets blame Utd

  9. "I'd waited long enough , I hit him hard , take that you <deleted> and dont ever stand over me again sneering about face injuries."

alfe inge haaland never played another game of football due to the injuries received.

Agreed naughty. Tax get you facts right. Haaland retired with an injury to his other leg, not the one Keane accidently :o kicked him on.

  10. If you have a reasonably modern car you should be able to use regular 95 petrol / benzene (Yellow pump) or Gasohol 95 (Orange pump).

Older vehicles may not like Gasohol (it can attack parts of the fuel system). If your car is pre-2000 or so, best to contact the manufacturer.

    Cheers Crossy,

I have a 8 month old Toyota Altis so i guess it should be fine.

    Thanks again

  11. Read in the Bangkok post this morning(postbag) that petrol 95 will no longer be avaible in Thailand from Jan 2007. Any one shed any light on this. Also, it it possible to start using petrol 91 instead without changing the engine. Sorry, not that clud up with cars.

    Cheers guys

  12. I can't imagine Man Utd fans would drive from Surrey to Old trafford to play a relegation battle against Macclesfield Town, can you?

Is that a joke?????? Best supported club in England when we were in the second tier in 74/75 and then the best supported club in England in the 80's when we were shit ,so don't type shit.

Yeah, Yeah, City and Leeds have the most loyal support and they are are both massive clubs. :D

Dislike Leeds but would like to see them come up cos it beats playin Watford over 2 games. At least its a match that gets me up for it. Oh, the happy days of visiting bellend road.

Oh i forgot , wonderful fans Leeds :o

  13. Hi guys

Do you have to show your plane ticket to get the re-entry stamp ?

The reason i am asking is i am flying out on Sunday morning but am picking friends up from the airport on Thursday. I figure, get it there and then and save the hassle on the Sunday. I wont be getting my plane tickets until the Friday so i cant show them on the Thursday.

Will it be on open on the 6th ?(Thai holiday)

    Cheers in advance

  14. The number of planned extentions was up to 10 a year or so ago and then was cut down to 4. I think the current number is 7, but no building has been done yet, so it's anybodies guess as to which one's will actually get built.

Where are the 10 planned extensions/ routes being bulit?

    Rangsit, Ramkamhaeng etc.

Anyone shed any light on this?

    Cheers

  15. Interesting article mr Lamps, don't you think. Nothing to do with Chelsea decline but interesting all the same

'There is a new breed of football fan trolling round town, half peacock, half cowed apologist. The peacock talks about the Premiership titles, the money, the arrival of Eto'o or Ballack or God if he turns out to have two decent feet. The cowed apologist mutters that, of course it's great to be winning, but it wasn't meant to be like this.

Mike is a diehard Chelsea fan. Season ticket, away matches, the lot. A few weeks ago he muttered that he wasn't going to the FA Cup replay against Everton - he couldn't afford it for one, and (the mutter now barely audible) he quite fancied a break. Mike, a man of boundless energy and optimism, sounded weary. "Everybody thinks it must be fantastic, but it's not all wine and roses," he said elliptically.

A couple of nights ago in the pub I was chatting with a friend about Chelsea - how the stakes were now so high that they could win the Premiership title by a mile and still have an unsuccessful season. Mid-sentence I got a tap on my shoulder. "I heard what you were saying," said a big bloke who looked as if he'd win any arm-wrestling competition down the Shed. "I'm a Chelsea fan." Great. Here we go. I waited for the headbutt. "I agree with everything you were saying, mate. Chelsea have given me no pleasure this season. Nothing. Zilch." He didn't want to talk about any number of functional 1-0 wins or Makelele's marshalling of his seven-man defence, he wanted to talk about Hudson and Osgood, Zola and Gullit, flair and romance down the King's Road, the glory years when they won the FA Cup and sod all else. The one thing he didn't want to talk about was modern Chelsea.

Steve, the fairest man I know, is also a Chelsea fan. He explains why they are no worse than Man United or Arsenal were, and tells me that everybody hates winning teams - that's just the Robin Hood way of the world.

Well, I say, I'm not so sure - United had so much home-grown talent and played the beautiful game, Arsenal played the even more beautiful game. By now Steve is not only nodding, he's helping me out, talking faster and faster. "They're like that Harry Enfield character Loadsamoney, flaunting it, rubbing our faces in it. We know football's become like that, but we don't want to be constantly reminded." Steve, like Mike and the arm wrestler, are on the verge of becoming self-haters.

At least, Chelsea self-haters won't find themselves short of fellow flagellators. Last week Barcelona's Lionel Messi said: "There are players here who hate Chelsea more than Real Madrid." More than Real Madrid! Now that is going some. The reaction to last week's defeat against Barcelona was astonishing. It felt as if England had beaten Germany; as if Barcelona were both local club and underdog. Why? Because it was a victory for vision and adventure, a defeat for cynicism and conservatism.

So what has changed in a year to make Chelsea possibly the most despised club in the world? Yes, obviously, there's money - we came, we saw, we spent, as Caesar would have it. But Barcelona are also fabulously rich. So what else?

Mourinho. We always knew the Special One was narcissism personified, but he was witty with it. At least, he was while he had it all his own way. But now Chelsea have lost a few matches? He won't talk to the press, he makes pre-emptive excuses (before the Barcelona match he mentioned how many penalties they had won this season, and how many players had been sent off against them. The implication? They were cheats). After the match, in which Asier del Horno was sent off for fouling Messi, he waxed sarcastic about Messi's theatrics. (Pot, kettle, Arjen Robben anybody?) As for the disgraceful pitch that looked as if it would suit the hard men of Chelsea more than the Barcelona ball players? Last week, pre-match, it was fine. This week, post-match, it is being relaid. So no coincidence there, then?

None of this bothers Mourinho, of course. He is happy so long as they win. But for Boss Abramovich, it's a different matter. Sure he may have bought Chelsea as his plaything, but make no mistake he always wanted to turn it into the richest football club in the world. The latest Deloitte "rich list" put Real Madrid (with turnover of £186m) ahead of Man United in second (£166m), with Chelsea (£149m) in fifth. Why? Because they sell more shirts around the world. And why do Real Madrid and United sell more shirts than Chelsea? Simple. Because, despite all their detractors, over the decades they have wooed their fans with romance, history and thrilling football.'

I'm afraid deep down inside, that echoes my feelings as well. Robben, down as if machinegunned if someone comes within ten feet of him. Why oh why can't someone with that much skill, play football all the time. Drogba's the same. And Cole...........although he seems to have maturered a bit. And Makelele's disgraceful sham against Monaco cost them the tie. I also look at the players sometime and say " Why do I support these bunch of overpaid ######s?" Why? Because when you look at other clubs, the same thing is happening at the top. Look at Pires. If it was a boxing match Pires v Robben, they'd both be down for the count before a blow was offered. Look at some of the top Italian players. Too many to name that fall over at a hard stare. No, I support Chelsea because I knew the team of Osgood,Hollins,Cooke,Hudson,McCredie,Harris, Droy,Houseman,Bonnetti,Hinten,Hutchinson,Webb,Baldwin,Weller, Dempsey. If the 1970 Cup Final had been played in 2005, there would have only been both goalkeepers left on the pitch, and both of those with yellow cards. No your right. Football iss not like it used to be. Most linesmen nowadays don't know the offside rule, or choose to make their own interpretation of it. A lot of forewards now are just too quick for the linesman. Take Crespo (it is a Chelsea thread) he is so quick and has such a good football brain that he is offside only about 10% of the times he is flagged.

What really gets my goat, is that now Chelsea have a half decent team, the only thing all the others can come up with is the 'Chelski' and 'Russian Mafia money' remarks. OK it's sour grapes, but when United were at the top, we did not say it's only because of your money. No. We said " One day we're going to be like you" Isn't that everyones dream? To have enough money to buy anything you want? Of course it is. <deleted> to anyone that says different. If our Russian fairy Godfather said "<deleted> this, I want to live in Manchester, so I'll buy United" would all you people against him say" No. We don't want you" No you lot would say" Right. Now we're in charge of the market, like you have been for the decade leading up to Chelsea's resurgance. And anyway. Money does not buy a manager capable of moulding together a winning combination. It helps OK. Most of "Chelski's" regular players, or anyway the nucleaus of the team were there already. But of course the money makes a tailor made excuse as to why United or Arsenal are not winning anything now. But please don't forget all you Fergites and Wengerites. Chelsea are not beating you week in week out. All the other teams are. Your fate is in your hands, not ours. And with that I will say goodnight.

wow mr Lamps, I never posted this to have a dig.(on the defensive again Mr Lamps )I posted this because it was from a Chelsea fans point of view. well the first half of it. I was not having a dig about the money. The loadamoney came from a chelsea fan not me. If you look up my quotes on the Man Utd in decline thread you will see i have never had a dig about the money or about Chelsea being top dogs at the mo.

You see Lamps, football is all about entertainment and as the Chelsea fan said " they have given me no pleasure this season." Me thinks, if the football was attractive to watch maybe people would not jump on the bandwagon. But being top dog well, it comes with the terriorty.

Here are the last few lines from the article

Simple. Because, despite all their detractors, over the decades teams have wooed their fans with romance, history and thrilling football.'

Chelsea have a long way to go matey.

And with that I will say goodnight. I thought you posted this morning:huh:

  17. redrus

Sorry if I offended you, but I beleive United could have said no. At the time United were the greatest thing since sliced bread( although then, none of us Chelsea supporters laid into you, like you seem to be laying into us)Of course a lot of teams thought. FA Cup.....United can't be bothered with it, and they are the best. Maybe it's not so good after all. The fact that they got humiliated IS a chanca for the Man U knockers to chirp in, not the fact that they went. I weould have said the same about Chelsea. But we would have bought the trophey back. :o

Lampard10 behave? If you look back Utd asked the FA to play our 3rd round at a later date and even offered to play a weakened team, so get your facts right. As Redrus said we were pushed into by the FA cos it looked good for them and we got slated for it. Tony Banks (i think he was sports minister at the time) got involved and said it would be good for the UK if we went.

As for Utd fans having a go at the team who have won a few trophies over the last few years and all Chelsea fans think the world is aganist you. Well, get used to it cos you are the best at the moment and teams at the top get slagged off. In a different thread i have said all along that Chelsea deserve to be top. Your football is not that good to watch but hey, you are winning matches, are you not? When we were winning all the time i used to sit back and enjoy it, so why cant you?

The thing is Lamp10, Chelsea are not even in our top 5 rivals as a team or supporter wise for that matter.

As for Chelsea winning the Fifa world club thingy, maybe. We have won it already and are the only British club to do so, before they changed the format to 6 teams. It was the Euro champs v the South America champs and if you check, we won it in 1999.
