  1. our water comes straight from the mountain. And we are the first village to receive the water.

check out jantaa posts on the organic section

you wont have time to eat ever again far less go to pun pun once you start reading some of his stuff haha

  2. Live and learn. I didn't know we had an organic farming forum here on TV. biggrin.png I'll be checking it out when I have more time for the internet.

Re some supposed "organic" farmers here in Thailand using poisons, I heard from a Thai friend that this is sometimes the case. She knows well one lady who has her veggies sold at the CMU organic market near Nimmanhaemin and she uses poisons "only in the early stages of growing because otherwise they will get eaten by bugs". My friend says that this lady full well knows that it is wrong but is only doing "organic" for the money. Unfortunately I have not yet tracked down which stall it is that is selling her veggies.

Contaminated water shed here is another major problem in Chiang Mai. Too sleepy to search it now but seem to recall reading some quoted articles about it here on TV some 6 or 7 years back. Mostly from heavily sprayed oranges to the north of here as I recall.

Wigantojapan do you have a farm? And if so do you sell to the general public? I dabble in organic farming, veg and fruit, make my own pesticides, hormone, fertilizer etc. but figure the water supply is very tainted as I am surrounded by rice paddies, some my own that we were told was organic rice by the previous grower but when I saw him literally using a bottle with skull and cross bones on the label his response to my "huh" was that it's organic and he only uses chemicals when he has to!! We do it ourselves now. Anyway we try and our stuff sure taste great (I'm a city boy so it's all new and fun). Recently added chickens and thinking about good food for them too, the shop said they are organic because we have a large hen house (240 sq. mt. for 10 birds) and the stress free environment is healthy (I guess healthy is organic as well as organic is healthy). If it's not all confusing enough - LOL. Anyways guess I'll check out the Organic forum too.

There are a few farms/Garden farms around CM where one can easily visit them and talk to the owners.

Even better to stay a few days and participate.

I can mention the mindful farm information from namo yoga

If you have transport an easy 30 minute ride

we took a white song tao......20 minutes i think we paid 40 baht

google sangbo another farm near CM i havent been so cant comment

people are welcome to come visit my 1 rai garden and see and participate but i am 2and half hours away near Fang.

There are various standards of accommodation available

Its a pity that people are using the organic angle to deceive people but as we know they are ultimately deceiving themselves

In the mean time yes suport pun pun ask them questions,go visit their farm, they could do with the help i,m sure

The kings projest shop already mentioned had a wide variety of vegetables when i was there last week

anyone interested in a box scheme let me know

this will be for the future

i shall grow what people want

  3. Take a cooking course or search around the internet for easy, healthy, creative menus. Cooking can be enjoyable and relaxing. Have a maid come in 2 or 3 times a week to tidy up the place.

That would really be budget friendly. I might start out like that and see if it works. I have taught myself to cook Indian vegan dishes.. I don't find it fun or relaxing though. And I got a lot of "hobby" to do. My last task. I know some people think it is art play rather than art work but being highly creative can be exhausting. Serious artists need support to produce their art. And i am no young chicken anymore. This why i come to LOS to afford one last grand thing. This is my last hurrah before true retirement and art hobby. Still hoping for maid/ cook . I think cleaning every other day is an excellent idea and I can have laundry done once a week. I have to work within my budget. I will get as much info before my feet is on the ground as possible and then let things unfold. My budget is a little flexible but I am shooting for 1500 max USD a month. But I also need a workable studio. Maybe a shophouse in a reasonable neighborhood not too far away from CM center. I want to be upfront so I can get good advice.

go live at tacomepai near pai

15 rooms for rent in a beautiful setting. with creative people and i believe good cooks.Very rustic though

if not i can offer you a western standard cottage on 10 rai of land surrounded with lychee trees and singing birds

We have land next to this so my girlfriend could come in and tidy the place up

and yes we can do the low soduim diet to our taste

2 and a half hours North of CM

  4. As a matter of interest do you know what kind of fertilizers they use for the Organic produce?

I've heard that in the west it's often blood, fish guts, human, excrement and sweepings from the abattoir floor.

Or organic fertilizers of animal origin they call them.

Of course there are other methods. I just wondered how Pun Pun do it... Any idea?

you can actually go to the pun pun farm and see how they do it.

what i can verify is Pun pun is supporting local farmers and giving them a fair price for their goods and labour

another reason apart from the restaurant side of things to go there,as well as the sugar free additive free peanut btter

  5. Unless you have a business that could provide commercial reasons or working for a firm you would not qualify for a business visa. But you can buy what you want on a tourist (or if within 30 days visa exempt) entry.

yes i would be self -employed working for myself.working as a agent for a few shops in the uk

so what evidence /documentations do i need to provide from Thailand

I can get verification from the Uk shops that i am in Thailand to source for them

also from the clearing agent in uk that ihave in the past done business and am starting up again

    Thank you

I was in a similar situation and needed a letter of invitation from a Thai company on headed paper that included their registration details and a company stamp. I also provided a letter from a UK company saying I was in Thailand on business for them. The consulate in Hull seemed happy with this and issued the visa no problems.

    Thanks Rab

On your knowledge Rab did/do Glasgow offer the same service

  7. Hello .

Can anyone shed any information on what is needed to obtain a business visa if i am coming to Thailand with the aim to source goods to export back to

    the UK?

At this moment i am only looking at small quantities of samples to take back to possible buyers,,but of a fairly wide range of goods

As i am only buying samples now from small street vendors and small shops, i will not be going to any of the major supplies who could

possibly give me a letter of introduction or the likes that meet the requirements of the Thai Embassy in the UK.

Has anyone being in a recent similar situation and if so can they relay what is/ was needed?

I shall be returning to the UK shortly and would like to have any documentation from Thailand that is needed before applying for the business

    visa 2 months from now

    Thank you

  8. As a matter of interest do you know what kind of fertilizers they use for Organic produce?

I've heard that in the west it's often blood, fish guts, human, excrement and sweepings from the abattoir floor.bah.gif

As a vegetarian I'm not sure what is more acceptable. Blood or Chemicals on my Vegetables.

May I ask what you use and have you any idea what is used by Commercial Organic farmers??

I also heard that organic vegetables are more prone to infection with e-coli etc due to the fertilizers used...???

They must be well washed just like non organic...Any advice would be appreciated.wai.gif

I have no idea what they use for commercia fertilisers as personally i dont need them or really want to touch them.

i Make my own compost up using different combinations of what has grown at the time

for example one compost was predominately cabbage ,corrainder another was corn stocks, chiilies

all mxed with my kitchen waste.

I also have a leaf mould heap on the go which will take time to decompose

sprays ginger black pepper.chillie garlic works for certain things

also we have lots of neem where i live so i have made a liquid spray all done with hand

i also use fermented fruits left over a period of days ,weeks, urine, and cow dung with cows raised on organic farm land

experimenting with natural made charcoal made from lychee bark .

    Hope that helps

go to the oranic section on here

Jantaa from the uk is a wealth of knowledge and he is doing what he says

  9. Well, my vision was to live somewhere upcountry when I would be old and without any income, and not have to worry about some 90 day reporting or renewing of the visa every year. Oh dear, I will have to find another country for this dream then, Burma here I come smile.png

    cambodia

but if you are over 50 you cannot marry a cambodian

you can own land, own a house

work and you do not need a cambodian

no need for 90 day visits or lots of money to start work/business

  10. I can live on 15000 for me and my girlfriend

costof room is 5000 plus another 1000 for electricity and water(slightly cheaper actually )

As i am fussy about food we do most of our own cooking

There is an organic veggie market so you can get healthy food

plus cooking for oneself i eat more than the portians that are available outside

A normal low end Thai dish is 30-35 per portian but i normally end up eating 2 portians

2-3 times a day so my self alone if i am eating out about 200 baht

but like i said i eat in most days and organically too

A beer is between 44 -70 depending on your brand you like

and a johnny walker whisky is 770

dont even touch the Thai stuff for a couple hundred baht more you get a no bad real whisky

a few self sufficient places around CM where you can stay all in for 200 baht per day and live off the land and learn somw real skills

    any questions ask

    slainteva

hi, where exactly is the organic veg market?

i grow my own organic food ,so sorry i cant tell you were the market is,but its in the university area near the original pun pun on wednesdays

Also along the canal road is an organic shop run by the kings project

if i buy i buy in the pun pun shop in santitham

  11. electric mans opening quote was to brag about his 13 room us house and then his 9 room cm house which a third is a business for his wife

hardly a home which was part of the original question

i didnt think as most of us i guess, i could be wrong that the original poster was wanting a 9 room house never the less i am now curious

i would like to know what a 9 room house costs as again this was part of the original question being how much to live in cm

not how much to live in cm if you have a business

  12. IMO the problem is with some of the westerners is that they cannot distinguish between Thais and other asian nations. I find this very sad. They can lisiten to the language but have no idea.

We've just come back from Bali where all the Baliineese insisted that my wife was Balineese and not Thai so it's not just a western problem.

In Krabi several years ago, the Thais thought my northern Thai wife was Japanese......

aye lad these northern thais are hard to understand by the soft southerners
  13. fair point but i dont see a negative in that.or even a bit of ego not like helly dollys point

the balinese who were trying to be friendly, well not even trying just being people ,well without sounding grand probably havent had the opportunity to travel so yes they were interacting

    .Thats all

.If your girlfriend felt they had abused her national identity or pride well maybe your girlfriend should have a closer look,or was it yourself who felt superior/inferior or whatever

take it for what it was people trying to communicate with you both for what ever reason and in a way that they have being doing since time began

what would you they had rather done no interaction or spoke to you through a mobile phone

maybe if you both spoke Balinese there would be no misunderstanding

  14. "The Road to Wigan Pier"

The black thumbprint on the slice of bread and lard and the warm bed as one shift worker got out to go to work and the one who came home gets in, is priceless. As famous as the book is, I still think the best thing to come out of Wigan was the late, great George Formby.

great quote but yes i feel blessed to have grased the floors of WIGAN CASINO

Have a listen to EDDIE PARKER,I<M GONE or the TAMANGOES.I really love you mind blowing to a young 17 year old still mind blowingthumbsup.gif

Well on the 2 days i have posted here most of the time has been personal attacks

    Today it is Wigan.

Wigan is famous for one thing only and no it is not Wigan pier

Would it be connected with leaning on a lamppost at the corner of the street? biggrin.png

Does keb darge and guy hennigan ring a bell

foe people in the know hear them in pattaya in november

    Yesterday i was ok

last night i was all right

  19. imho Cm is ok in the short run but with the air quality as well as the ever on going visa restrictions and tightening of regulations the main issues of will i stay will i go

cambodia is a much better option at this moment in the long run for air quality, archetectural ambience, cost of living, little or no red tape ,beauty of enviroment and most of all the people

how Thailand was and still is but in smaller pockets

bottom line with money in cm

15000-30000 easily achievable can have a fufilling and varied lifestyle

add another 20000 baht to these figures for emergencies

more can buy you more but is the quality any better or fufilling

i gave you the market prices as well as restaurant

    up to you

thats me finished with this thread

if you do end up here

    enjoy

  20. Well he is a fool if he can afford to treat himself but won't because it costs money even though he has it.

Or maybe he has low self esteem and thinks he dosen't deserve any thing good. In that case he needs professional help.

A cheap Charlie was described in the video on post 58. Live in a small room right across the street from a big market with continual noise. He better know what things are before they are cooked and not really care about his health. Noticed the kitchen staff in one of them playing with there hair. Also noticed at a fixed menu he said the portions weren't very big.He never even came close to the subject of medical expenses.

Have no means of transportation other than on foot or if he is willing to cheat a little bit buy a old motor bike. Did you notice the fellow in the video was waiting for donations to get a van.

Reminds me of what a agnostic friend of mine said at a funeral. No pockets on the casket.

You live in a room. It might be a nice room but it's still a room, with you and the Mrs cooped up there 24/7. You've got money, why not rent a nice house, if not for you then for the Mrs? I can't believe she wouldn't want some space from you and for herself.

You have no means of transport apart from Songtels and Tuk Tuk's. Even if you are unable to drive, why not buy a car for the Mrs so that she can have a bit of freedom and drive you to where you want to go? I believe those who shout loudest about others being 'cheap Charlies and having (in your words) low self esteem, are the real cheapo's and have a need to project this onto others. Just because you sit all day in a room and probably sleep all afternoon (I notice you never post in the afternoon), then go out for a meal to somewhere you feel 'safe' and therefore pay the higher price does not make you Mr extravagance. However, your lifestyle is your choice, but if one has to pigeon hole people the way you like to, I would say that your particular lifestyle certainly likens to that of what you always call a cheap Charlie.

    Brilliant well said
