  1. Hi all, just got my retirement visa from Jontiem Immigration, Like pulling teeth, one rude and obnixous police "Captain" dealt with the process, couldnt help get the feeling that we farangs are not really welcome here (just my imression ) I made to henious mistake of not photcopying all the pages of the passport, my fault hands up BUT you would think I had commited a serous criminal offence. My passport was thrown back at me and was told by this women, in her not good english " copy all now, me officer" what a way to talk to customer !

i know they deal with many cases but please dont anyone tell me she was having a bad day etc. If she dont like the job then leave and go somewhere where her people skills arent needed (she hasnt got any) I just sat there smilling through gritted teeth thinking keep calm thinking son, it wont be long. I thanked her very much and walked out.

Just another question as a darent ask her, now I have the retrirement visa, do i have to go to iimigration if i want to fly back to the UK 2-3 times a year, whats the procedure? How much does this cost?

    Many thanks all

    paul

  2. I asume you eman you are on 1 year extension of stay absed on employement, in that case you go to immirgation after having visited the labour office. Immigration will then cancel your permissiont to stay and at that moment you can apply for a permission to stay based on retirement. if your incoem is from abroad, you will indeed need a letter from the consul confirming your income. if it is from within Tailand, yu proof it with tax documents.

If you cannot arrange it all within 1 day, you can get a 7 day "extension" from immigration for 1,900 baht to get your paperwork in order.

of course for the first year could also show THB 800k in a bank account and not have to run around getting letters and/or tax documents

I wish I had that in the bank !!

  3. The Tor Tor 10 form is the receipt from the Labor Department showing that you have cancelled your work permit. Make sure that you get it. When I changed jobs I didn't have one and it was a 1000 kilometer trip back to the old labor office to get it before they would extend my visa.

    hi,

thanks for the reply, can i just turn up in person at the labour office or does my employer have to be there ?

    regards

    Paul

  4. Hi all,

Due to health issues I have to unfortanely have to resign fron the firm I work for in Pattaya. i have a work permit and a non cat B visa I have been told that I must cancel the wp and will have to do that at the Labour office in Choburi. I am also told that I need a tor 10 and then i can apply for my retriment visa, i have a pension of 75.000 baht a month so " shouldnt" be a problem. I apparently need a letter fron the british consulate confirming my pension rights.. Can anybody confirm all of the above ?

    cheers all

  6. Hi Guys,

To cut a long story short, we looking to buiild a " Tree House", basically it would be a old original Rice barn. Need a about 1-2 Rai of land on the dark side about 3-4 miles from pattaya centre. Buying through a company with trusted thai friends.

Couple of questions ... Would we need planning permission fron goverment department to erect a tree house on our land?

If we needed to get electricity would the electric supplier be able to supply if there isnt already cables near ?

Lastly, what would be the rough " price of one rai of land (not in a really built up area) thinking about approaching farmers and speaking to them to see if they would sell ?

Any help niformation/advice would really be apprecated

    Cheers

    Paul

  9. needs a full restoration job to bring it up to show standard

And that is not an overstatement. Can't you see in the green book what model and year it is? You should also compare engine/chassi # to those in the book before money change hands. BTW has it been under water (in a lake) for a very long time, or maybe it's just the picture quality?

    Hi Semper,

I know exactly what I am taking on, done three classics before in UK, you should have seen them !!, i will post a few pictures of the bikes then you will REALLY see what a "basket case " is !! and then the finished project, might surprise you

The bike has never been in water, its been in a dry garage for some 15 years, never used. The horrible Matt black paint has covered everything. Anybody who has ever restored motor bikes knows you never really re-coup your hard earned BUT its never really done for money!

If you think you are going to make money by restoring a bike, think again.

Just about to purchase a Honda 750, its about 25-30 tears old, needs a full restoration job to bring it up to show standard, I have restored a few English bikes in the UK. i have never restored this type of bike. The owner has the green book etc. I cant find out the mode/type of bike. I have been asked for 47,0000 baht for the bike. need to know from any of you guys the model etc, i have been recommended a bike company called VS MOTOR PATTAYA, off Thappasit Road near Soi 10. to carry out the restoration.

I have seen his work and was vert impressed. Any body else has recommendation would be grateful. Need chroming, powder coating,

So if anybody can help many thanks in advance,

What in your oppion would be a very rough idea of a "reasonable" price of a full resto ? in the UK you would be looking at somewhere in the region of 6-8 grand. I know doing this type of resto you can spend thousands but hey its my passion!!

Please see pictures of the bike, I am told the engine is finepost-137260-0-91992700-1322458078_thumb. obviously needs a new battery etc,

Any body knows a great Air Brush company that does quality detailed paint job ?

    Cheers Guys

  11. Yes, you can add a second employer to your work permit. But you must have written permission from your first employer to do that.

    Many thanks for that,

question, if i resign from my present employer can he stop my work permit from my other company ( if you understand my drift) or will i have to re-apply for a new WP for my new company ?

In a nutshell, will i be able to use my current WP even though i dont work for him but have the details of my new company which has nothing to do with him

    Cheers

    paul

  12. Hi all

I already have a have a one year WP, I work for a company here in Pattaya. I am looking to diversify into a completely new product/company , nothing to do with the company that employs me now.

I have been told i can add to the WP with my new company and that shouldn't be a problem,

I may ,in the future, leave my employment with the company that initial employed me and concentrate solely with my new company.

Will there be problems in trying to do the above?

    Regards

    Paul

  13. Thailand will never be a completely secure and stable country; situations can turn here either for better or for worse within a moment.

It has always been this way. The Thailand is a Disneyland for cheapskates crowd never seem to get this and keep trying to change it into a PC Western country.

I would add that the Thailand is a Disneyland for the rich are trying to change it into a PC Western country. The are three things that really are getting to me: 1) people pollution, 2) crime and 3) skyrocketing cost of living. These are the things that I have to deal with each day as opposed to some "crisis" which does not happen each day. But, it is worth nothing, that I live in sin city, which is, to many, the worst place to be and to others the best place to be.

2 Go live in Brixton uk

    3 Go live in UK

    Nuff Said !!

  14. Please read, SUMS IT ALL UP REALLY

This apparently is an actual letter received by the UK Passport Office.

    Dear Sirs,

I'm in the process of renewing my passport, and still cannot believe this How is it that Sky Television has my address and telephone

number and knows that I bought a bleeding satellite dish from them back

in 1977, and yet, the Government is still asking me where I was bloody

    born and on what date.

For Christ sakes, do you guys do this by hand? My birth date you have

on my pension book, and it is on all the income tax forms I've filed

for the past 30 years. It is on my National Health card, my driving

license, my car insurance, on the last eight dam_n passports I've had,

on all those stupid customs declaration forms I've had to fill out

before being allowed off the plane over the last 30 years, and all

    those insufferable census forms.

Would somebody please take note, once and for all, that my mother's

name is Mary Anne, my father's name is Robert and I'd be absolutely

astounded if that ever changed between now and when I die!!!!!!

I apologise, I'm really pissed off this morning. Between you and me,

I've had enough of this bullshit! You send the application to my house,

then you ask me for my bloody address!!!!

What is going on? Do you have a gang of neanderthal <deleted> workin'

there? Look at my dam_n picture. Do I look like Bin Laden? I don't want

to dig up Yasser Arafat, for gods sake. I just want to go and park my

arse on some sandy beach somewhere. And would someone please tell me,

why would you give a shit whether I plan on visiting a farm in the next

15 days? If I ever got the urge to do something weird to a chicken or a

goat, believe you me, you'd be the last bloody people I'd want to tell

    !!

Well, I have to go now, because I have to go to the other end of the

poxy city to get yet another copy of my birth certificate, to the tune

of £30. Would it be so complicated to have all the services in the same

spot to assist in the issuance of a new passport the same day??

Nooooooooooooo, that'd be too dam_n easy and maybe make sense. You'd

rather have us running all over the bloody place like chickens with our

heads cut off, then have to find some arsehol_e to confirm that it's

really me on the dam_n picture - you know, the one where we're not

allowed to smile?! (bureaucratic morons) Hey, do you know why we

couldn't smile if we wanted to? Because we're totally pissed off!

    Signed

    An Irate Subject

P.S. Remember what I said above about the picture and getting someone

to confirm that it's me? Well, my family has been in this country since

1776 ............ I have served in the military for something over 30

years and have had full security clearances over 25 of those years

enabling me to undertake highly secretive missions all over the world.

......... However, I have to get someone 'important' to verify who I am

    - you know, someone like my doctor - WHO WAS BORN AND RAISED IN SODDING

    PAKISTAN !

  16. I just saw an interview with Robert Allenby and he said the biggest technological advances in golf are the balls and the drivers equally (a bit different to when he who shall not be named said it was the ball...period).

You probably shouldn't pay too much attention to what your fellow countrymen mumbles about in the media - that's a friendly advice. Instead, you should pay attention to the research that is being made and the countless discussions involving golf ball manufacturer and engineers.

Last time around a confused soul, who's name we shall not utter, claimed that Greg Norman was right when he stated that he could hit a golf ball on the upper quadrant with a wedge (something that will require a gymnastic performance worthy of an octopus trying to execute a pole vault inside a refrigerator, and is probably as easy as inserting a lump of hot butter in the arse of a wild cat using a pair of knitting needles - or, for that matter, have him admit being wrong, I'd say they're about equal in likelihood of ever happening) the person was never able to explain how it'd be possible to hit the ball on the top quadrant, and my guess is that he has now realized how wrong he was, but rather than admitting he was wrong he will continue run away like a little girl in Hello Kitty panties, avoiding that topic for all future to come.

    :cheesy:

Most players tend to believe that it is the club (the driver, in particular) who is responsible for the increased driving distances (I assume you're referring to distance) but tests have proven over and over again that you are not able to hit an old golf ball with a modern driver NEARLY as long as if you hit a modern golf ball with an old driver. Nick Faldo is one of the players who's made this research and came to this conclusion.

Manufacturers of golf clubs often exaggerate the advances in length when they market their new driver, most people realize this, if one was to believe that each new model will generate 20 yards in distance we'd all be hitting well over 500 yards. The most striking tragedy is that someone with your capability is not able to see through simple marketing tricks in favor of hard facts. The simple truth is that a driver hasn't changed that much over the past 10 years in the ability to launch a golf ball long or straight. The biggest change by far was the introduction of titanium.

The FACT is that since the hickory clubs of the 1920's, the average driving distance has changed as little as 26% using the same ball. Yes, that's right, only 26%. Another remarkable fact is that the introduction of stainless steel drivers didn't generate ANY increase in distance compared to persimmon clubs. For you comfort, I've attached the stats.

I suggest you try yourself. If you have a ten year old titanium driver, play it the next round and you'll be surprised how similar you'll hit it in distance compared to this years model. You've once claimed to have played golf for 50 years, so I'm sure you have an old persimmon club somewhere, or at least are able to borrow one; play it with a PRO V1 or similar and you'll be surprised how far you'll hit it. You mentioned shafts earlier, and there's been a tremendous development in shaft technology, but in reality it is only in combination with other factors we can see any huge differences. My clubs look pretty much exactly like a pair of Wilson Tour blades looked like 20 years ago. Forgiveness has increased in modern clubs, yes, but there were plenty of forgiving clubs 20 years ago. Ping Eye. Ping Zing. MacGregor DoctorX. Cleveland 792 VAS. Same concept as the modern clubs. The looks have changed. Not all players use the lighter shafts. I'm one of them, my shafts was considered lightweight a couple of years ago but at 72gr it's considered heavy today. Steel shafts are more or less the same as 20 years ago. Dynamic Gold shafts ARE the same.

What I'm trying to say is; don't be this naive and believe everything you see in marketing, Allenby gets paid for marketing Srixons equipment (he doesn't even play the Srixon driver...). Your type of naivety is exactly the reason they sell a new driver to every other stupid hacker each year, each of them with the belief that they will hit the ball 20 yards further. They won't. The driver doesn't change that much.

If you want to talk about distance (I presume this discussion is not only about distance) alone, the biggest difference by far is the technology available for optimization. Professional players can take advantage of this in order to optimize swing and equipment in order to generate ridiculous driving distances.

I don't expect you to answer this in a decent manner, but at least it might give someone else something to think about.
