  1. Just confirmed with experienced visa lawyer here in Pattaya that one week prior to my expiry of non B (18TH October 2010) we will both go to Jontiem Immigration Office soi 5 and I will get one month initiall extension. Then one month later I will get a ONE year visa stamped in the passport.

    Confused ?

    Same as marriage extension.

You get 1 month under consideration.

The papers must be sent to BKK where they make final approval.

WHAT, a marriage extension !!;) ;) , you must be kidding !! lolohmy.gif My marriage of 19 years was enough

Many thanks for that, makes sense now cheers

    All the best

    Paul

  2. You can extend for one year - not one month - if you and company qualify. If not you must exit to obtain a new visa (and with that long on work permit/company paperwork you should be able to obtain a multi entry that would be valid for one year and only have to exit/return every 90 days).

  4. A work permit would be required for any such extension of stay.

So I have to go apply for 3 month non imm B again, I have a receipt from labor dept fr W.P. application which was required for issue of non imm B, is that receipt still good for new application I wonder?

    H,

I am going through this right now so can tell you exactly what will happen

I have a non b immigration visa that was issued in Singapore on 19th July 2010 and expires 18th October 2010.

My WP has been issued to me (this took 6 weeks to obtain from labor office in Chonburi). The blue book which you have to pick yourself at the labor exchange is signed by you (in the officers presences) you oay the fee 1900 baht and walk out WP IN HAND. No hassle or problem at all. I was very impressed with the service AND the smiling officer ( 19 year old admin clerk)

My work permit is valid from 01sept 2010 until 31st August 2012. I took physical posseion of the ( blue book/work permit ) on 4th October 2010

One WEEK prior to the expiry date in my Non b visas which will be 11th October have to go to immigration in Jontiem with all the relevant paperwork WITH the WP, and will get one month or one year non b visa extension.

If I just get one month I go back thirty days later and will be given a ONE year extension there and then (confirmed by visa lawyer here in Pattaya)

I still have to report to immigration every 90 days ( you can send someone to do this for you or use there postal system) I will go as its only around the corner to me so no problem ( but you have the choice!)

I hope this has helped clarify things for you

    good luck !

  5. A few days a saw a post on the forum where a guy asked about WP, he was an an American and was talking about an agreement that exist between the USA and Thailand re some type of work permit agreement, it is some sort of act which is not used much. He was doing magic tricks here in Thailand and perfomed for local big wgis etc

I cant find now, does anyone have an idea where it will be, sorry to be so sketchy but need to find this

Hope someone out there remembers and can point me in the right direction

    Cheers All

    Pail

  6. These are the basic facts, not sure if work permit is needed or not ?

I, I am a director of a new registered company here in Thailand, the process is too transfer the directorships to me and my non Thai business partner

his Thai national wife will be other director. This is ongoing at this time

2 We intend import our product from from the UK and sell on-line and other direct outlets here in Thailand ,(you cannot buy our product in Thailand ). We are awaiting the License Product Number.which should be known soon hopefully. We have imported several "samples" over the past few months which is perfectely legal here in the quantities we were sent, and people keep asking for more of the same, We cannot supply aymore because we have no Import Licence yet (catch 22 !)

    3. I will play no part of the direct selling here in Thailand, Most orders will be generated through INTERNET sales throughout Thailand,. When the products come onto the market here in Thailand it will be recommendations that will sell the produce (word of mouth is THE BEST recommendation)

    Do I need WP ?

Thanking you in advance for any help/advice you can give

    Paul

  8. Cant smoke a battery

Try dynamite, its a quicker death than cigarettes and less painful, and if you do it in a field you won't pollute other peoples airspace. :)

Take it as red your antii smoking then ? :D

There is nothing worse and pretentious then those whom have the fashionable PC afflictions.

    Airspace, indeed.

What does this mean in English, remember, i aint got long to live ! Could be dead within 1 minute or 30 years who knows ? Sure waitng for the grim reaper, aint you ! lol :o :o

  9. It doesn't take much effort to type in 9900 at the ATM instead of pressing the button for 10,000. If you do this constantly it also helps you immediately identify if there is any suspicious activity on your account, as a thief would tend to use round numbers.

Then you always get 4 100 baht notes for use at the market, and you can break the larger notes at retail chains where it isn't a problem. Just please don't break that 1000 on the tollway. One of my pet peeves. You will piss off a line of cars behind you waiting to get through while every other lane is moving.

As for the cigarrettes, I'm sure that 7-11 clerk sees thousands of people everyday. Why do you feel you are so special that she would remember you? Besides, how hard is it to say "boo-ree" and then simply point when she opens the cabinet? You are in Thailand after all. It is not a shock that someone doesn't understand English, no matter how clear and consistent you say it. I had to work with a guy from Scotland for a while. I'm sure he thought he was being very clear when he spoke also, but frankly he could have been saying Martians were attacking for all I could understand him.

Edit: just saw llso's post above. Basically I just repeated him. Sorry about that.

Good explanation. The OP should try going to a convenience store in his homeland and ordering something in Chinese. You can imagine the reaction. Why do these FOB newbies feel that every Thai in Thailand has to speak English? As for the large bills, again, try going to a street vendor in, say, New York City, and buy a pretzel or foot-long with a US$100 bill (similar to a 1,000 bt bill in purchasing power). You'll probably get an annoyed-look, if not downright hostility. Seems like common sense....but maybe "it's just me."

Seems to me - the basic root to this issue is many don't consider that there is another thought process and actions outside of their own. Culturally-centric, sort to speak. Logic should dictate, yet in most situations doesn't.

    Very True !

  10. Donr

Sorry mate, If you walk around with a bunch of 1000 bt bank notes and don't speak the lingo you are heading for trouble one way or another. How do you manage taxi journeys? Why not withdraw nine hundred or four hundred at a time. Learn how to say left. right, up down (si,quar, krong bon, krong lan) so you can point at things behind the counter. Learn the colours, its not rocket science. In the Uk if someone walked around trying to buy small items with a fifty pound note in the same shops everyday and didn't speak a word of the language they'd look like a bit of a dick, no?

Yeah , good advice mate, will take that onboard ! not

Why not? It makes perfect sense.

It may to you, Try drawing out 900, when i can only draw 1000 at a time, I dont see any problem with saying RED, WER, LED, Remember its a £20 note, NOT a £50 pounds note

if a foeienger comes into my shop with a Twenty Pound note would NOT have a problem with selling him fags and other bits Whats the problem !!!!. ESPIICALLY IF THE SMAE BLOKE COMES IN DAY AFTER DAY

It just isnt cigs I buy in 7/11, i do spend about 400-450 evertime,

    Anyway, thanks for replying

  12. Best plan of action? Go to court on the date given. A single joint isn't a big deal. If he's lying about what happened and he was really caught with a kilo of coke up his rectum that's a different story.

His brig problem is that his visa wxpires before he goes to court. THis means that after the case when he walks out the door of the court if he does, the immigration police will arrest him and detain him for deportation. If his visa has been extended they cannot do this.

If he pleads guilty and is fined, then i assume that will give him a criminal record here in Thailand. I am not sure that immigration cant deport even IF he is granted an extension. They CAN argue that he is "underirable " here iin Thailand etc

I'mIm not saying its right or wrongm but I reckon he needs a lawyer for representationn at court AND possible deportation problems later.

What mosr people fail to realise that a court will have the final say NOT the police etc.

He must be bullet proof as far as is possible GET A BRIEF !!!!

  13. Yes, pay, not so much "morally" as it could be that the Thai car rental agency might, just might, bad mouth you to their brethren if they get stuck paying the ticket.

Just be happy you didn't get stuck with the moral dilemma of having to choose between paying a real Thai traffic cop a baht 200 bribe, and paying a paper ticket at the station if you declined.

    Mac

DON'T PAY, Then keep looking over your shoulder, what goes around comes around, is IT really worth the worry/hassle, hey in the UK it would be £60 PLUS three points on your license, for 1000 baht its a result mate

  14. I

I remember on one of my first visits to Thailand I needed batteries for my walkman (yeah, it was that long ago, all you whippersnappers). I asked at several mom and pop shops and received blank stares. Traipsed back to the hotel to ask what the Thai word for 'battery' was.

"Bat-a-LEE", I was told. Emphasis on the "lee". Returned to the same shop and found that, miraculously, I'd been transformed into a fluent battery buyer.

    And I paid in 20's

    OP can do the same.

    T

Cant smoke a battery I will try the pronunciation of malbourgh different ,how about mawbala, or mowbera,or maleburrow, on and on LOL

Yes, it's a shame we can't smoke batteries; they may kill us faster, but at least they'd be cheaper if we used the rechargeable ones. :)

    T

    Nice One lol lol :D

  15. No problem with change in 7-11, but I do get the daily 'which box does he want? soft or hard?' ritual with the cigarettes.

Some seem to assume that I want the hard box, apparently foreigners like a hard box! They ask each other, correct each other, pass a few different boxes of cigarettes around until they're reasonably sure that they've got the right one.

I just wait, smile and tell them 'arai gor dai khap' every day, in the same shop with the same people.

Not really a hassle, just another thing to smile about . :)

Exaclty Right !!!!!!!, makes you wonder though why !

    Cheers mate ,

I think it's because, in my case, there aren't a lot of foreigners about and they're a little nervous about serving me. They think they might have to speak English, which could potentially be embarrassing. They also want to give me what I want, and again, due to the language barrier, feel they can't easily find out. Fact is, I don't really care what box the ciggies come in :)

It's all due to the perceived 'strangeness' of a foreign face and that people serving in 7-11 usually haven't been out of school long and just get a bit nervous I think.

The reason that they don't remember is that it's not really important, they're very busy and just have other stuff to think about. Perfectly understandable, I don't see why my particular needs should be of any significance really :)

They've always got change for a 1k note though, the shop is very busy all day and all night. That denomination of note is certainly not strange to them.

  16. Wow no toothpaste he was dentally challenged but YES a 13 baht ice cream

so end of story I guess.

I never give money to beggars unless they are not begging, so I guess they are not beggars but lifes unfortunates,e.g. amputees,

Tend to get food for the children and babies..breaks my heart to see them. Tried to interest the police a few times for particularly heart wrenching sights, I don;t have to ask anyone to guess their reactions

    -------------------------

You're showing your Eurobased cultural perception (big buzz-word terminology there).

He probably regarded an ice cream as a luxury he didn't often have, and now he had the chance to get.

Once, many years ago in New Delhi, I gave an Indian woman begger a few Rupees. I thought she would buy food for herself or the infant daughter with her.

Instead she bought an armful of flowers, which she took to one of the sacred cows that were wandering around in the market area, and fed the armful of flowers to that cow.

That incident taught me a lesson that my western preconceptions were not always shared by other cultures and people.

    :whistling:

At least the cows were happy !
