  1. My wife failed for the 4th time the parallele parking test (in Pattaya near the Regent school).

I would like to train her, but I cant find on Google the exact size.

I know that there is a yellow line and the car must be parked behind the second white line.

The dimension is something like 3 meters X 6 meters... but someone could help me and give me the exact size ?

    Thank you.

Does it have to be a Thai man I ask?

There's plenty of Thai men getting their hair done in salons and happily paying over the odds extra for it. It's just you don't know any personally. Now carry on being happy getting your 80 baht 'special' and patting yourself on the back regarding your prowess in all things Thai.

LOL I'm living for 15 years in Thailand, I can speak thai and I have many thai friends.

Those "salons" where all the farangs are going have nothing special, they may charge 200 or 300 bahts the farangs but the thais wont be charged more than 80 bahts.

Having been here for 19 years, I have seen this modus operandi of government before, and not just in relation to immigration rules.

Ministers are informed of a need for a sector of the economy or problem needing to be solved. Thailand is very top-down in management style. Minister gets some proposals through cabinet BEFORE they have been properly thought through.

True ! All that mess and interpretations are coming from in "seminar" in Chiang Mai (22th november). The aim of that seminar was too ease VISA processes to attract more foreigner retirees: cancel the 90 days notification, create a new 10 years VISA etc...

All what they did is just a new 5 years VISA proposal (not 10 years), still 90 days notification and created a big wave of panic for the future retirees willing to settle in Thailand !

The worse scenario is only to "replace" the 1 year VISA O-A done abroad by a new 5 years VISA. This is the worse scenario !

And "if" that happens then you'll do what all Iranians, Pakistans etc... are doing: you will come to Thailand with a 30 days Visa On Arrival, then VISA O in Bangkok (3 months), then n X 1 year extensions in your immigration office. Is it a real drama ?

Well I've already put the house up for sale today, now I'm looking for somewhere to sell the car. I'm not waiting for details it seems very clear whats going on in this country right now. Time to move on.

I may understand you if they plan to change something about the VISA O done in Bangkok... show me somewhere in the previous articles where they talked about changing this ? The worse scenario is only to "replace" the 1 year VISA O-A done abroad by a new 5 years VISA. This is the worse scenario !

You're likely talking about conversion of the class of your entry. I'm not sure which conversions they do, but I'm guessing still have to enter the country with a non-immigrant visa to get it done?

You are talking about the convertion of a VISA O-A 1 year into a VISA O (yes you have to do a border run)

But you can also do a VISA O in Bangkok (3 months) and you'll never have to leave the country.

I hate the gnaw the old bone but .. visa = permission to enter the country, extension of permission to stay = exactly that. Visas you get outside Thailand, extensions inside. It helps to keep the two clear.

No for retired people the VISA can be done in Bangkok VISA O = 3 months, then extensions 1 year in the immigration office where you are living.

I agree that it's unclear whether there will be a 1 year AND a 10 year Non 'O-A'  visa. But what is clear is that 1 year extensions of stay are not changing, which is the way most over 50's stay here, and what most people seem worried about.

    Untill today, you can have:

    - 1 year VISA O-A abroad + n x 1 year extension

    - 3 months VISA O in Bangkok + n x 1 year extensions

And what i'm thinkin we will have in a few months:

    - 5 years VISA O-A abroad

    - not sure about 1 year VISA O-A abroad + n x 1 year extension ?

    - 3 months VISA O in Bangkok + n x 1 year extensions

Anyway we will still have this "3 months VISA iO n Bangkok + n x 1 year extensions"

The governement never talked about changing this VISA O used by pakistans, iranians, indians etc...

Q: Is it possible the new type O-A rules have nothing to do with Type-O retirement, which is therefore not affected at all?

Since the begining I'm thinking that there is no link with the current 1 year >50 yo extensionq.

The govenement is intrucing a new 5 years VISA O-A that you'll get ABROAD and they never talked about a replacement of:

    - The 3 months VISA O (done in Bangkok) + the 1 year extension of stay (for retirement or > 50 yo)

One also has to wonder why the Thai government has also opened up lots of new Immigration offices, if it intends to get rid of a lot of foreigners....

That "replacement" doesnt make sense, add also that this new VISA was FIRST planned to attract more expats.

Tourism Minister Talks Up 5-Year Visas

As the northern province is home to about 12,000 long-stay foreigners and a destination the government wants to promote as a medical hub, Kobkarn said her ministry would push the Immigration Bureau to loosen measures, such as dropping 90-day check-ins in favor of an annual system.

The population of long-staying residents is expected to grow 5 percent to 10 percent annually, she said.

  11. There are many negative comments and few official explanation, but do you remember that this VISA was first planned to attract more expats ?

If that new VISA replace the old one, that will decrease the figure of expats, that doesn't make sense !
