  3. Suvarnabhumi "spiderwoman" latest: Police stopped her in middle of the night wandering the expressway

More details have emerged of what led up to the daring escapade of the European woman climbing at the airport yesterday.

It has emerged that at 3am the woman - still unidentified but believed to be European - had been stopped while wandering about the expressway in the Rama IV area.

Highway police couldn't get any sense out of her so decided to take her to the tourist police at the airport.

The tourist police gave her food and water but likewise could not communicate with her at all.

It appears she was let go as she had not committed any crime then at 11 am she started climbing around the 6th floor aircraft viewing area.

Deputy airport director Kitipong Kitikhajorn and his teams swung into action to try to get her to come down but it all failed.

He said it was too dangerous to rush her due to danger to her and airport staff.

He added it was lucky that she had clambered some way down to the fourth floor before she finally fell onto two airbags that had been set up by firemen and airport medics.

She was taken to Samitivej hospital after her fall.

Netizens were glad to see that she was not hurt but many wondered what she was up to and praised the authorities for their swift action.

Some said if she wanted to be famous she had certainly done that.

But others were less happy at all the fuss caused by the foreigner.

Saraj Choomsuwan said: "I'd like to know what punishment she is going to get for that stunt" then added rather sarcastically. ""They gave her food and water...why not a discount coupon for travel all over Thailand?"

  5. Prayut dances away his woes in Kalasin

    n3.jpeg

Wearing a Phu Tai shirt and dancing with local performers, Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha enjoyed spending his Wednesday in the northeastern province of Kalasin for a one-day visit.

Besides meeting with local people, Prayut gave away dozens of cows, buffaloes and agricultural tools to farmers before observing an irrigation development project in the afternoon.

He also visited Phu Tai Cultural Centre, a local fabric-looming cooperative following Royal initiative of HM Queen Sirikit.

Prayut has recently made frequent but brief field trips to distant provinces.  On contrast to his trip to Trang last week to inspect flood management, this trip to Kalasin appeared to focus on local development as well as getting in touch with the locals.

While his trip in Songkhla and Pattani in late November did not end well – it was marked with confrontations between villagers and officers – Prayut managed to spend some of his time in Kalasin cheerfully doing the “serng” traditional dance with local girls.

He also reminded locals how his government had allocated Bt305 million for irrigation development and Bt1.4 billion for three road construction projects.

A man who published a Facebook Live post of him dousing his associate’s parents’ house in gasoline and setting it alight in Buri Ram’s Kaen Dong district over a grudge about an unpaid debt last Saturday has failed to surrender to police to hear charges of arson.

The post, which showed the man making rude remarks against the debtor, was widely shared on Thai social media, with criticism focusing on the wanton destruction of property and stupidity of live broadcasting an incriminating act.

    n2.jpeg

In his latest post on Facebook, Arthit “Top Howdy” Chakkhum claimed his action had been motivated by drunkenness and anger.

He said he had just meant to urge his “friend” to repay the debt and the house had not been seriously damaged because the flames had been quickly extinguished. He also apologised for such an “ignorant” action that set a bad example for others.

However, the victim’s father has filed a police complaint.

Kaen Dong police superintendent Pol Colonel Sampat Srichanteuk said officers were gathering evidence on Wednesday to apply for arrest warrants for conspiracy to commit arson for Arthit and the person who took the video clip, given the audacity of the crime and the amount of public attention it has garnered.

  7. BREAKING: Incredible footage shows foreigner falling from Suvarnabhumi airport roof

    image.png

Incredible footage shows the moment a woman falls after dangling from cables at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport.

Security staff at the airport were called after reports that a woman was climbing from the third floor of the airport at around 11am on Wednesday .

The woman who had climbed up onto the structural cables spent two hours climbing and dangling from various cables.

The woman, who was described as ‘foreign’ and aged between 20-30 refused to speak to rescue workers or give any explanation for the reasons behind her dangerous stunt.

While the woman was hanging from the cables rescue workers managed to install a large inflatable bed that would catch her if she were to fall - which is exactly what happened.

Footage from the scene shows the woman lose her grip as she attempts to move from one cable to another, saved by the inflatable bed below.

Workpoint News reported that the woman, who still refused to talk to rescue workers, had tattoos of the 2014 Olympic rings on her wrists, leading some to speculate she was an Olympic gymnast.

Two American men who were arrested in Thailand for posting naked photos to Instagram have reportedly been released from jail and are heading home to San Diego.

Joseph Dasilva, 38, and Travis Dasilva, 36, were arrested at Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport last month after images posted to their ‘Travelling Butts’ Instagram account showed them dropping their trousers at various religious sites around Thailand.

The photos, one of which showed the men with their trousers down at Wat Arun temple, went viral and quickly caught the attention of the Thai authorities who arrested the married couple as they tried to depart Thailand on November 28th.

It had been reported the couple faced up to seven years in jail for breaching Thailand’s strict Computer Crimes Act.

However, on Friday the San Diego Gay and Lesbian News reported that a Thai court dismissed the charges against the men, who had been held jail since their arrest.

The men were instead handed over to Immigration Police who are processing their deportation.

“They wanted me to thank everyone for their thoughts prayers and concerns,” said Robert Rodriguez, a friend of the couple.

“They send all their love to their friends that have supported them,” he added.

Last week, it was reported that the men had paid a fine of 5,000 baht each following their arrest.

Commenting at the time of their arrest, Thai government officials said: “This is a reminder that everyone should have respect for Thai religion and culture.”

Travis Dasilva contacted Thaivisa to inform us that the recently created 'Travelling Butts' Instagram account is nothing to do with the either of the men mentioned in the story above. He says the original account was removed from Instagram and remains offline. We've corrected the story above.

A 68 year old Norwegian man has gone to Thai media to appeal for justice after he was deported.

He claims that his Thai wife - in collusion with a policeman who is her new love interest - framed him by planting a gun at his house.

He also believes that he is the victim of trumped up charges initiated by the police that called him a threat to society.

Vidar Petersen spoke to Tnews and other media from an unspecified location. He was deported from Thailand in May.

Tnews said that he had lost everything - 34 rai of land, a Mercedes Benz and another car, motorbikes, cash. But worst of all he has not seen his son for two years and now he is desperate for help.

Trouble started in May 2013 when police arrived during a party at his house in Tha Bor district of Nong Khai.

They found a .38 gun under the seat of a car. He had no licence for the gun.

He denied it was his and believes it was planted.

He paid 80,000 to a policeman to get him off the rap even though he said he was innocent. But the matter still came to court.

    Untitled-2.png

    Image: TNews

Then he was picked up off the street while walking his dog - this time was the charge of causing annoyance to neighbors by threatening them with a knife.

He believed these were trumped up charges at the behest of his wife. On the video he called her a greedy, stupid woman. She has disappeared with the deeds, the vehicles, his son - everything has gone, he said.

He spent hundreds of thousands on a female lawyer who proved useless.

All his own efforts to locate his wife and child failed - then he was deported.

He said he has been the victim of "high ranking police" and that his life was like "a funeral without a body".

He was deported on May 16th and now has no prospect of getting back to Thailand to sort out his life and has appealed to the media for help.

    n7.jpeg

A 33-year-old Myanmar woman, who received officials’ warning for putting her seven-year-old daughter in chains in front of their apartment in Phuket’s Muang district, claimed she did so out of love and caring because the “naughty” girl could be harmed or run over by a car, officials said.

After an image of the chained girl was shared on Thai social media, and subsequent child abuse complaints, Phuket children and family home care head Atchara Surakul and other officials went to inspect the apartment at 10am on Tuesday.

    n8.jpeg

They told the family via a Myanmar language interpreter that they couldn’t chain a child, then took the mother, stepfather and children to Muang Phuket Police Station to record the incident.

Officials took the girl and her nine-year-old brother into temporary care pending an inquiry into the family’s situation.

Atchara said the mother claimed that the girl was naughty and the chain was used to keep her from harm while the mother took care of a one-month-old child born to her and her new Myanmar husband. The couple both worked in the construction worker industry.

Officials said the seven-year-old girl also had bruises, and the mother had admitted hitting her for being naughty.

The Myanmar woman, whose name was withheld pending investigation, has five children – four of them from her previous husband. Three of these – the “naughty” girl and her siblings aged 17 and 9 – came to stay with her in Thailand five months ago.

Atchara said the authorities did not want to take the children away, but they had to move two of the children as a temporary measure. She said officials would talk to the mother about how to raise children. A multidiscipline team would also discuss concrete ways to help the family.

  16. Driver’s licence health rules to become stricter

    n4.jpeg

The Department of Land Transport (DLT) is preparing a ministerial regulation to prohibit those with five health issues from obtaining a driver’s licence.

It will be implemented early next year, according to DLT deputy director-general Kamol Buranapong. The department was in the process of consulting with the Medical Council and drafting new health criteria for licences.

    n5.jpeg

They will include five new issues barring an applicant’s eligibility: epileptic seizures, high blood pressure, brain diseases, myocardial infarction and severe diabetes. “It will take about 2-3 months to pass the regulation, hence it should be in effect around February,” Kamol said.

There are already five diseases that prohibit a person from obtaining a driver’s licence: elephantiasis, TB, leprosy, alcoholism and drug addiction.
